McCoy Jr., 84, of Nicholasville, husband of Loretta May McCoy, passed away Sat, April 14, 2007 at the Hospice Care Center. He was born on Dec 30, 1922 in Pike County into the family of the late James F. McCoy, Sr. and Ollie Jane McCoy. Master Gunnery Sargeant James F. McCoy proudly served his country and family as a U.S. Marine for thirty years receiving numerous awards and honors. Twenty-six of these years were in active duty and four as a reserve. He rose to the highest rank that could be earned by a non-commissioned officer. He was a member of the Marine Corps Engineer Association. After serving his country with pride and honor, Jim entered a successful coal mining business with his brothers serving as president of McCoy Alma Coal Company in Phelps, KY. In his retirement, Jim enjoyed his family and gardening. In addition to his wife, he is survived by; three brothers, Joseph F. McCoy, Herman G. McCoy and Leonard F. McCoy; a sister, Sadie McCoy; two step-children, Donna Areaux and Charles Little; two grandsons; Anthony Areaux and Austin Areaux; and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by; three brothers, Thomas, Paul and Jesse; and two sisters, Sara Jane and Josephine. Funeral services will be 12:30pm Tue at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road by the Rev. Thomas R. McCoy. Visitation will be 5-9pm today (Mon) at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Anthony Areaux, Austin Areaux, David McCoy, Kevin McCoy, Ronnie Stevens, Dale Dotson, David Lyons, Shawn Autry, and Jon Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Dotson, Jason Nichols, Ben Johnson, Nick Johnson, Blake Johnson, Mark McCoy, Andrew McCoy, D.J. McCoy, Patrick Autry, Alex Sizemore, Jordan McCoy, Jacob McCoy, Josh McCoy, and Jonathan Stevens.
