Virgie L. Collins Ray, age 97, of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed 
away Saturday, June 17, 2006 at the Pikeville Medical Center. 

Virgie L. Collins Ray, born August 18, 1908, in Pike County, the 
daughter of the late Thomas T. Layne and Rebecca Jane Ratliff Layne. 

Virgie was a homemaker and a member of the Chloe Creek Old Regular 
Baptist Church since October, 1931. 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands
 Anthony Collins on September 15, 1971 and David Ray on 
December 31, 1987. 

She was also preceded in death by four sisters: Myrtle Layne McCoy, 
Pearl Connley, June Willis, Vernia Layne and a brother Carl Layne. 

She is survived by a sister Bertha Smith of Trenton, MI., a half sister 
Pat Rutkowski of Kings Beach, California. 

Also survived by three nieces Jeanette Robinson of Pikeville, Lillian 
Freeman of Westland, MI., and Deanna Haynes of Trenton, MI. 

Also survived by four nephews Loris McCoy of Pikeville; Bill McCoy of 
Morristown, TN; Challen McCoy of Bardstown, Kentucky and Kenneth 
Connley of California. 

Virgie L. Collins Ray will be sadly missed by her family, friends and 
many loved ones.
 
Visitation:  after 1:00 PM Monday June 19, 2006 at the J.W. Call 
Funeral Home Chapel  

Funeral Service:  11:00 AM Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at the J.W. Call Funeral 
Home Chapel with Carson Wright, John Paul Hamilton and Bob Justice 
and others officiating  

Interment:  Cline Cemetery- Pikeville, Kentucky
