Obits: Stevens, Lorenzo Dow Jr. Pike County, Kentucky May 2007 Submitted by ; Diane Montgomery Parsons http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00001.html#0000062 ********************************************************************* 1923 - 2006 Lorenzo Dow Stevens Jr., 83, of Ashland, Ky., passed from this life surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Mr. Stevens was born June 19, 1923, in Pikeville, Ky., a son of the late Lorenzo Dow Sr. and Ida Mullins Stevens. His wife, Etta Lee Hulett Stevens, died on March 24, 1991. L.D. joined the Navy at 17 and was in the Navy when World War II began. He was soon taken captive by the Japanese on Corregidor, where he was involved in the Bataan Death March. He would then serve 31/2 years as a Prisoner of War in Manchuria and Japan. After arriving home from the war, he returned to Catlettsburg, where he met and married the love of his life, Etta Lee. Lorenzo was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family was the most important thing in his life. He worked for the Ashland Oil Refinery for 42 years, retiring as maintenance supervisor of the No. 2 Refinery. His quick wit and humor became his trademark, and his workers fondly nicknamed him Nab. He was a 60-year member of Hampton Masonic Lodge in Catlettsburg, Ky., and a 32nd degree Mason. He was also active in the Eastern Star, where he served as worthy patron. He was a member of Belmont Baptist Church, where he and Etta Lee served in many capacities. He worked with the Boy Scouts for many years as a Scout Master. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and special fishing buddies. Surviving Mr. Stevens are two sons, Larry D. Stevens and his wife, Patricia, of Russell, Ky., and Walter Dow Stevens and his wife, Rebecca, of Ashland; a daughter, Cathy Stevens Davis and her husband, Gary, of Lexington; a sister, Sally Peace of Erlanger, Ky.; six wonderful grandchildren, Larry D. Stevens Jr. and Amanda Lobach of Raceland, Ky., Travis P. Stevens and Kimberly of Flatwoods, Ky., Eric Dow Stevens and Lisa of Honolulu and Zachary Davis, Olivia Davis and Mercedes Davis, of Lexington; four precious great-grandchildren, Madison Stevens, Justin Stevens, Jack Stevens and Larry David Stevens III; and a very special dog, Hannah. Funeral services to honor the life of Lorenzo Stevens will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at Rose Hill Mausoleum by the Rev. Gene Hallahan. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Nov. 1, 2006, at Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Masonic services will be at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, spend the money on yourselves.
