He had been a teacher and superintendent at vocational training schools. He was also a Horse breeder in the harness racing industry. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was born in Pike County, Kentucky on September 13, 1932 the son of the late Will "Bill" Calvin York and Melster Bentley York. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Appleton York and one brother, Charles Calvin York and one sister, Phyllis Jean Moore. He is survived by one sister, Billie Sue Davis and her husband, Gene of Pikeville. He is also survived by seven nephews, William Calvin York,D.O., Don Richard Moore, Charles Foster Davis, William "Scott" Moore, Charles Creed York, Robert David Butcher and John Ellis Butcher and three nieces, Laura Mesta Scalf, Barbara Carmella Lessard and Eugenia Sue Branham. Serving as Pallbearers were: Stanley Thomas Scalf, Jonathan Morgan Scalf, Don Paul Branham II, Jonathan York Moore, Eugene Welch Davis II, Charles Foster Davis II and E. Bruce Walters II. Funeral Service: Private services were held Tuesday, October 31, 2006 with Bill Staggs and Greg Cagle officiating Interment: York Family Cemetery, Pikeville, Kentucky J.W.
