He was a retired coal miner, a member of United Mine Workers of America, a World War II Navy veteran, a member of Disabled American Veterans, a member and deacon of the Greasy Creek Old Regular Baptist Church, and a deacon of Little Pond Old Regular Baptist Church and Rebecca Old Regular Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Juanita "Jackie" Bevins; one son, William Ray Bevins of Yellow Hill; two daughters, Joyce Ann Childers of Draffin and Virginia Lois Justice of Pikeville; four brothers, Huffard Bevins and and Arlie Bevins, both of Millard, Bud Bevins of Illinois, John Bill Bevins of Michigan; three sisters, Eula Mae Davis of Winter Haven, Fla., Betty Lou Mullins of Yellow Hill, Roberta Bartley of Elkhorn; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Laura Newsome Laura Elizabeth Charles Newsome, 74, of Open Fork Road, Pikeville, died at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. She was born in Pike County, Jan. 2, 1925, a daughter of the late James Allen "Alley Buck" and Effie Scott Charles. She was a homemaker and a member of the Raccoon Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Newsome, who died Oct. 7, 1997; one brother; one grandchild, and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, John Allen Newsome of Raccoon and Robert Newsome of Ashland; five daughters, Joyce Ann Hall and Barbara Hunt, both of Meta; Lois McCoy of Raccoon, Loretta Robinette of Zebulon, Avonell Carter of Salt Lick; two brothers, John Bill "J.B." Charles and Glen Charles, both of Pikeville; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, at the Raccoon Primitive Baptist Church with Paul Dean Justice, David Coleman Jr., Robert Worrix, David Allen Thacker, Bobby Mayhorn and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville. Pallbearers are Randy Allen Newsome, John Kent Newsome, Terry Hall, Robert Allen Newsome, David Paul Newsome, Lonnie Newsome, Brian Carter, Joshua Carter, Jeremy Robinette and Ryan Hunt. Visitation is in the Call Chapel. The body will lie in state at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. Ira Adkins Ira Adkins, 80, of Rockhouse, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. He was born in Pike County, Oct. 2, 1918, a son of the late Burton and Dixie Justice Adkins. He was a retired Army veteran and served in World War II. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hylton Adkins; and one sister, Madge Francisco of Elkhorn City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Nick Damron, Rick Wright and Eddie Dorton officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by DAV Chapter 140, Elkhorn City. Mildred Jabroski Mildred Marie Jabroski, 77, of Pikeville, died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. She was born at Caney Creek, Nov. 14, 1921, a daughter of the late Joseph Landon Phillips and Molly Rasnick Phillips. She was a member of the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Junior Tucker, and her second husband, John Jabroski. She is survived by three sons, Tony Allen Tucker of Simpsonville, S.C., Tom Tucker of Harlan, Johnnie Jabroski of Lawrenceburg; four daughters, Rosemary Mullins of Deane, Teresa Fleming and Robin Hayes,both of Burdine, Connie Holmes of Keokee, Va.; one sister, Jewel Elkins of Robinson Creek; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Zaley Hobbs Zaley Hobbs, 87, of Pikeville, died at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Park View Manor Nursing Home, Robinson Creek. He was born in Pikeville, April 16, 1911, a son of the late Adam Hobbs and Florence Charles Hobbs Davis. He was a retired coal miner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearlie Smith Hobbs. He is survived by four sons, Junior Hobbs of Cleveland, Ohio, Clyde Hobbs of Ohio, Herman Hobbs of Brunswick, Ohio, and Eugene Hobbs of Pikeville. Brady Morris Brady Lee Morris, 59, of Huddy, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at his home. He was born at Huddy, Dec. 5, 1939, a son of the late Raymond Morris and Hazel Cochran Morris Pope. He was a disabled, self-employed mechanic and a member of the Belfry United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Margarette Hurley Morris; one son, Gregory Lee Morris of Fort Thomas; one daughter, Rhonda Susan Morris of Newport; and two half-sisters, Cherri Sebree and Cynthia Peck, both of Georgetown. She was born in Pike County, July 21, 1908, a daughter of the late Mary Smith Phillips and James Thompson Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elza C. Cassell; one brother and one sister. She is survived by two sisters, Jennie Reynolds of Pikeville and Hazel Frost of Aiken, S.C. Lee Edgar Lane Lee Edgar Lane, 71, of Looneys Creek of Grundy, Va., died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at his home. He was born in Buchanan County, Va., a son of the late Fred D. and Myrtle Taylor Lane. He was a disabled coal miner. He was preceded in death by one son. He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Looney Lane; six sons, Stevie Lane of Grundy, Michael Lane of Mountain City, Tenn., Timothy Lane of Oakwood, Va., Lee Edgar Lane Jr. of Abingdon, Va., Burgess Lane of Cleveland, Johnny Lane of Albany, Ohio; four daughters, Loretta Deel of Haysi, Va., Myrtle Lane of Oakwood, Judy Gray of Wheeling, W.Va., Sandra Lane of Charleston, W.Va.; one brother, Ira Lane of Conaway, Va.; four sisters, Dorothy Young of North Carolina, Sue Lane of Moundsville, W.Va., Bessie Vanover of Elkhorn City, Ferbie Stacy of Hurley, Va.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
