Charles, 71, of Leesburg, Fla., died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998. He was born in Pikeville, and moved to Florida in 1959. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Special Forces, and was a member of the Mid Lakes Christian Church of Leesburg. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Charles; two daughters, Sandra Roach of Leesburg and Rhonda Tesauro of Longwood, Fla.; two sisters, Ruth Howell of Henderson, N.C., and Rocine Fisher of Bluefield, Va.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements are under direction of Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park of Leesburg. Don Earnest Kender, 84, of Ashlick Fork of Phelps, died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at his home. He was born March 2, 1914, a son of the late Mose and Rhoda Cassey Kender. He was a retired coal miner and a member of United Mine Workers of America #8288, Kentland-Elkhorn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vada Kender; three sons, Don Kender, Wayne Kender and Willis Kender; and one daughter, Vada Marie Kender. He is survived by six sons, Linton Kender of Kimper, Daris Kender of Smith Fork of Phelps, Dallas Kender and Roger Kender, both of Somerset, Roy Kender of Jamboree, Randall Kender of Phelps; two daughters, Pricey Casey of Rose Ann, Va., and Judy Griffith of Phelps; three sisters, Rhoda Curtis of Chicago, Annis Smith and Sadie Casey, both of Phelps; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Nov. 26, at the Peter Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elders Jimmy Lee Smith, Paul Varney, Everett Brizendine and Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Kender Cemetery at Ashlick Fork of Phelps. Arrangements are under direction of R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home of Phelps. Special services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Bonnie Jean Ramey Tackett, 30, of Raccoon, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital, the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born in Cincinnati, June 16, 1968, a daughter of the late Jimmy and Mandy Thacker Ramey. She was a homemaker and was of the Old Regular Baptist faith. She is survived by her husband, Oliver Tackett; one son, Cody James Tackett of the home; two daughters, Amanda Rena Tackett and Shayla Michelle Tackett, both of the home; one brother, Jimmy Dean Ramey of Raccoon; and two sisters, Tammy May and Martha Tackett, both of Raccoon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, in the Justice Funeral Home Chapel with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Justice Family Cemetery at Upper Pompey. Arrangements are under direction of Justice Funeral Services of Pikeville. Lorraine Potter Shortridge, 69, of Grundy, Va., died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn. She was born in Pike County, a daughter of the late Dewey and Francis Stiltner Potter. She was retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles and was a member of the Grundy Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband, Carl Shortridge; one son, Russell Keith Shortridge of Grundy; one daughter, Linda Kay (Mrs. Scotty) MacDonald of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three brothers, Elzie Potter of Grundy, Hershel Potter of North Tazewell, Va., Roy Potter of Hurley, Va.; one sister, Kelsie Potter of King George, Va.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at noon Tuesday, Nov. 24, in the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelists Clarence Greenleaf, Kevin Whitsett, Michael Trent, and the Rev. Danny Hess officiating. Burial followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hills, Va. Arrangements were under direction of Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Inc. of Grundy. Paul Clinton Mullins, 66, of Elkhorn City, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. He was born in Elkhorn City, Feb. 8, 1932, a son of the late Carl and Georgia Stacey Mullins. He was a retired equipment operator in the coal mining industry and a member and deacon of the Old Fashion Freewill Baptist Church, Elkhorn City. He is survived by his wife, Rose Mary Mullins; two sons, Paul Michael Mullins and Kevin Todd Mullins, both of Elkhorn City; four brothers, Kenneth Mullins of Cardington, Ohio, Roger Mullins of Michigan, Danny Mullins of Elkhorn City, Ronnie Mullins of Baltimore; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the Old Fashion Freewill Baptist Church with Benny Hopkins officiating. Burial followed in the Dow-Brook Cemetery at Draffin. Arrangements are under direction of Justice Funeral Services of Pikeville. Hearl "Sonny Buck" Damron, 83, of Old Ferrells Creek Road, Elkhorn City, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at his home. He was born in Pike County, Oct. 27, 1915, a son of the late King and Canzada Looney Damron. He was a retired coal miner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lennice Lester Damron. He is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Sloan of Cookeville, Tenn., and Janice Cook of Belcher; two brothers, Bob Damron of Belcher and Ravine Damron of Hiram, Ga.; three sisters, Ledna Collins and Gail Chaney, both of Belcher, Elva Mullins of Grafton, Ohio; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Shepherd and Joe McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the Lester-Hackney Cemetery at Belcher. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City. Arson Justice, 72, of Pikeville, died at 2:55 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. He was born in Pike County, Dec. 22, 1925, a son of the late Green F. and Rebecca Blackburn Justice. He was employed by the Pike County Board of Education as an educational supervisor, was a member of Thomas C. Cecil Lodge #375 F&AM, Anna O. Young Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and was a World War II veteran. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Slone Justice; one daughter, Kathy Deborah Johnson of Johns Creek; six sisters, Flora Kendrick of West Carrollton, Ohio, Carrie Coleman and Pearlie Coleman, both of Pikeville, Dorothy Hunt of Wellington, Ohio, Ruby Hall of Gallipolis, Ohio, Stella Coleman of Stanville; three grandchildren, Angela Terrell, Kaye Robertson, and Charles Arson Justice; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 27, in the J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Donald Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville. Masonic and Eastern Star services will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. Church services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday. Military----rites will be conducted at the graveside by Johns Creek DAV Chapter 166. James Hagy, 62, of Raccoon, died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. He was born in McDowell, W.Va., Nov. 15, 1936, a son of the late Lawrence and Lillie Robert Hagy. He was a retired coal miner. He is survived by his wife, Rita Marcum Hagy; one son, James Hagy Jr. of Chicago; and five daughters, Ann Bailey of Chloe Creek, Misty Hagy and Kristy Hagy, both of Raccoon, Sheila Hagy of West Wisconsin, and Connie Hagy of Chicago. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 27, in the Pike County Chapel with Billy Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery at Raccoon. Arrangements are under direction of Justice Funeral Services-Pike County Chapel of Zebulon. Visitation begins at 6 p.m. and services will begin at 7, Wednesday and Thursday.
