He was born at Belfry, Oct. 22, 1927, a son of the late Tildon and Marietta Varney Chapman. He was a retired coal miner, formerly employed by Green Valley Coal Corp., a Kentucky Colonel, a member of Disabled American Veterans Belfry Chapter #141, a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Chapman; three brothers; and one sister. He is survived by one son, Bobby Earl Chapman of Lavalette, W.Va.; two daughters, Vernice Deskins of Prichard, W.Va., Drema Varney of Milton, W.Va.; four stepchildren, Delcie Williams of McAndrews, Edvert “Bub” McCoy of Columbus, Ohio, Eppilena Blackburn of Quantico, Va., Dexter McCoy of Ona, W.Va.; two brothers, Tildon Chapman Jr. of Hardy, Scotty Chapman of Columbus; one sister, Vivian Dotson of Rainelle, Wash.; 16 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, in the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, with Buddy Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements are under direction of Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry. Pallbearers are Eric Varney, Chris Varney, Freddie Williams, Rodney Williams, Mickey Kendrick, and Wilkie Walters.
