Ralph James, 72, of Betsy Layne, formerly of Powells Creek, 
died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital.

He was born in Pike County, Jan. 27, 1930, a son of Nelson and 
Nora Justice James.

He was a coal miner, and a member of United Mine Workers of 
America, Republic Steel.

He was preceded in death by one son, Rick James.

He is survived by his wife, Lorene James; one son, Donald 
James of Betsy Layne; three daughters, Margie McPherson 
of Morehead, Rita Sammons of Harold, Julie James Collins 
of Pikeville; four sisters, Rushie Harris of Red Creek, Lizzie 
McCurry of Powells Creek, Lisa Church of Peytons Creek, 
Tilda Mae Thacker of Elkhorn City; seven grandchildren, 
and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, in 
the Justice Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in 
the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements 
are under direction of Justice Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday with special services at 7 p.m.
 Friday and Saturday.
