Elswick, 79, of Ratliffs Creek Road, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. She was born at Kentenia, Nov. 23, 1923, a daughter of the late Alfred and Bertha Burger Vass. She was a clerk, formerly employed by Persinger Supply, Bill Blackburn, CPA, and Dr. E.R. Thompson, a member of Stone United Methodist Church, a Sunday school teacher, active in the Stone United Methodist Women, and a soloist for weddings, funerals, and church services. She was preceded in death by two brothers; and six sisters. She is survived by her husband, Charles R. Elswick; one son, Rudolph Vass Jr. of Forest Hills; one daughter, Kiki Bentley of Stone; one brother, Allen Vass of Lexington; one sister, Gloria Runyon of Ashland; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, in the Pikeville United Methodist Church, with Quentin Scholtz and Tim Swanston officiating. Burial will follow in the Bent Ridge Cemetery, Meta. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Pike County. Pallbearers are Walt Holbrook, Wally Farley, Fred Farley, Jim Tom King, Jonathan Hiers, Eddie Clark, Paul Ford, David Chaffin, Eddie Venters, Frank Nall, and Jerry Vass.
