She was born at Woods (Cow Creek), Feb. 12, 1922. She was a homemaker and a member of the Betsy Layne Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Garrett; two sons, Donald Ray Garrett and Charles E. Garrett; and one brother. She is survived by five sons, Ellis Paul Garrett, Scotty Garrett and Michael Garrett, all of Betsy Layne, Lester Garrett of Allen, Gary Garrett of Stanville; two daughters, Ruby Stratton of Tram and Diane Smith of Stanville; two brothers, Zenith Goble of Auxier and Riccie Goble of McKee; three sisters, Ivory Mae Buchanon and Opal Bailey, both of South Lyon, Mich., Ada Jarrell of Prestonsburg; 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Willis Adkins and Samuel Stevens officiating. Burial followed in Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel. Arrangements were under direction of Hall Funeral Home of Martin. Bernice Francis Pruitt, 66, of Phelps, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at Williamson Memorial Hospital, Williamson, W.Va. She was born Jan. 8, 1933, a daughter of the late Mac and Roxie Wolford Francis. She was a homemaker and a member of the Jamboree Church of God. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Anita Pruitt. She is survived by her husband, Vernon Pruitt; one son, Aundra Pruitt of Phelps; two daughters, Donna (Mrs. Monroe) Justice of Phelps and Melissa (Mrs. Peewee) Gooslin of McCarr; one brother, James Francis of Darbyville, Ohio; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, June 24, at the Jamboree Church of God with Marvin Casey and others officiating. Burial will follow in Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel. Arrangements are under direction of Phelps Funeral Services of Phelps. Special services will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m.
