She was a cook for the Pike County Board of Education and a member of Piso Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clell Caines; three sons, Robert Caines, Johnny Caines and Rell Caines; and one daughter, Joyce Caines. She is survived by two sons, Quincy Caines of Zebulon and Carl Caines of Varney; three brothers, John Chaffins of Pikeville, Mack Chaffins of Cookville, Tenn., Don Chaffins of Alaska; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, at the Piso Freewill Baptist Church with Freewill Baptist ministers officiating. Burial followed in the Caines Family Cemetery, Varney. He was born in Pike County, March 27, 1930, a son of the late Mose and May Sullivan Skeens. He was a coal miner. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Justice Skeens; one son, Stanley A. Skeens of Feds Creek; two daughters, Joanne McVey of Mount Sterling and Desarae Clark of Feds Creek; four sisters, Mary Lou Fuller of Feds Creek, Clara Sue Hartz of Shelby, Ohio, Elsie High of Hinesville, Ga., Sharon Coleman of Pikeville; three brothers, Denver Skeens of Raven, Va., Charles Skeens and Tom Skeens, both of Feds Creek; and nine grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Graham Vreeland, former managing editor of The Courier-Journal under Henry Watterson and founder of The Frankfort State Journal. She is survived by one son, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Arthur Peter III of Lexington; one daughter, Mrs. Zach C. (Anne) Justice of Richmond, Va., formerly of Pikeville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Dolores Malone, 68, of McVeigh, died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at her home. She was born in McCreary County, Sept. 18, 1930, a daughter of the late James and Mable Wilson Malone. Nettie Blackburn, 62, of Varney, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at her home. She was born at Varney, Jan. 12, 1937, a daughter of the late Finley A. and Vada Maynard. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pilgrim Rest Church at Varney. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vada Lynett Blackburn. She is survived by her husband, Foster Blackburn; two sons, Neil Blackburn of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Mark Lindsey Blackburn of Pikeville; three daughters, Rhonda Blackburn of Varney, Shelia Means of Mt. Sterling, Jamie Blackburn of the home; one brother, Dallas Maynard of Varney; five sisters, Minnie Pricy Bevins of Lake View, Ark., Pallue Illick of Riverside, Ill., Alba Young of Varney, Jo Ann Blackburn of Benton, Gladys Charles of Chicago; and three grandchildren. Lula Kinney, 95, of Virgie, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. She was born at Virgie, Dec. 17, 1903, a daughter of the late Henry and Florence Osborne Newsome. She was a homemaker and a member of the Englewood Christian Assembly, Englewood, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rans Kinney. She is survived by one daughter, Ruth (Mrs. Lowell) Johnson of Virgie; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. George Dallas Sellards, 70, of McAndrews, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was born in Pike County, May 10, 1928, a son of the late Tom and Mary Thompson Sellards. He was a disabled coal miner and a member of Stone Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters. He is survived by his wife, Betty Messer Sellards; five daughters, Mary Adkins of Goody, Rebecca Amburn and Dorothy West, both of McVeigh, Betty Queen and Georgia Scott, both of McAndrews; one stepdaughter, Dulley Dingess of Williamson, W.Va.; three brothers, Bill Sellards of Columbus, Ohio, John Sellards of Huntington, W.Va., Thomas "Buster" Sellards of McAndrews; one sister, Kathy Knew of Williamson; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was born at Belfry, Feb. 12, 1916, a daughter of the late Lewis and Vada Blackburn Varney. She was a homemaker and a member of the Little Laurel Old Regular Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Bostic; one daughter, Ermil Bostic; one brother and one sister. She is survived by four sons, James C. Bostic of McKenzie, Tenn., Bob Bostic of Mt. Sterling, Kenneth Bostic and Bruce Bostic, both of Pikeville; eight daughters, Goldie Bostic, Emogene Bostic, Betty Stevens, Charlene Adkins, Buelah Adkins, Barbara Adkins and Linda Adkins, all of Pikeville, Sylvia Mae Potete of Waynesboro, Tenn.; Four brothers, Willie Varney of Raccoon, George Thomas Varney of Indiana, R.T. Varney of Hardy, James Lewis Varney of Connecticut; three sisters, Vicy Maynard of Florida, Marie Justice of Goody, Ruby Blackburn of Metter, Ga.; 26 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
