Irene Nicole Hopkins, 12, of Pikeville, Ky., died Thursday, May 6, 1999, in Pikeville 
Methodist Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  Born Oct. 11, 
1986, at Pike County, she was the daughter of Darlene Hayes Hopkins of Pikeville and 
the late James G. "Jimmy" Hopkins.  She was a student at Millard Grade School.
Survivors in addition to her mother, half-sister, Marlena Lynn Justice; grandmothers, 
Irene Hayes and Rushie M. Hopkins; grandfathers, Harrison Hayes and James C. Hopkins.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 1999, Upper Grapevine Church of Christ, Phyllis, Ky., 
with Howard Pugh and Willie Abshire officiating.  Burial: Annie E. Young Cemetery.
Pallbearers: family and friends. Visitation: Friday and Saturday with special services 
at 7 p.m.

James G. "Jimmy" Hopkins, 34, of Pikeville, Ky., died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at 
Pikeville Methodist Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born 
Sept. 13, 1964, at South Gate, Calif., he was a son of James Carlos and Rushie 
Blackburn Hopkins. He was preceded in death by daughter, Irene Nicole Hopkins. He was 
a dispatcher, tank and line tester for Coleman Oil  Company. Survivors in addition to 
his parents, wife, Darlene Hayes Hopkins; daughter, Marlene Lynn Justice of the home; 
brother, Ricky Allen Hopkins, Shelbiana, Ky.; sister, Carla Renee Slone, Shelbiana.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 1999, Upper Grapevine Church of Christ, Phyllis, Ky.,

Ruby Irene Bryant, 45, of Robinson Creek, Ky., died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at her 
residence. Born August 3, 1953, at Jelico, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Earl 
and Pearlie Carter Bryant..  She was a homemaker.  Survivors: sons, Rodney Bryant, 
Robinson Creek, Roy Bryant Jr., Peru, Ind.; daughter, Robin Coleman, Colorado Springs,
Colo.; brothers, Delbert, Robert, and Albert Bryant, all of Whitley  City, Ky.; 
sisters, Earnie Cooper, Whitley City, Orpha Miller, Corbin, Ky.; and two 
grandchildren.  Funeral: 9 a.m., Saturday, May 8, 1999, Robinson Creek Old  Regular 
Baptist Church Burial: Taylor Ridge Cemetery, Whitley City, Ky. Visitation: today at 
the church with services at 7:30 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of 
R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home, Virgie Chapel

Bob Elswick, 56, of Dandridge, Tenn., formerly of Pike County, Ky., died Wednesday, 
May 5, 1999, in Cocke Co. Baptist Hospital, Newport, following a long illness.  He was 
a member of the Hills Union United Methodist Church, the Elks Club, Mason, Shriner and 
Kentucky Colonel. He was a retired preparation manager for Bell Co. Coal Co.  
Survivors: wife, Ruth Elswick, Dandridge; daughter, Belinda Elswick, Dandridge; 
stepchildren, Mike Madlom, Union, Ky., Kim  Madlom, Thomaston, Ga.; sister, Billie 
Lynn; brother, Steve Elswick, Pikeville, Ky.; and two grandchildren.  Funeral: 8 p.m. 
Friday, May 7, 1999, at Farrar Funeral Home,  Dandridge. Burial: 10 a.m. Saturday at 
Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Lassie Phillips, 88, of Kimper, Ky., died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at her residence.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Justice Funeral Services, Justice Chapel.
