He was a coal miner, a World War II veteran, and a member of the Sulphur Springs Old Regular Baptist Church. Cecil Lodge #375 F&AM, a member of Pike County Board of Education 1976-1988, and a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, Pikeville. He was preceded in death by one sister. He is survived by his wife, Anne Coates Nichols; one son, David N.
