Cox and Mary, his wife, Travis Cox and Matilda his wife, Joseph Roberts and Elizabeth M. his wife, late Elizabeth M. Cox, John L. Cox and Rutha his wife, Sarah Jane Cox, Sophronia Cox, and Benjamin R. Cox, heirs of Elias Cox dec’d of one part and Samuel Lane of other part, witnesseth that the said heirs both this day sold and by these presence doth bargained and sold for the sum of $300.00 the payment of which is hereby acknowledged a certain tract of land lying in the county of Wayne and Pulaski which was patented to the heirs of said Elias Cox containing 100 acres and bounded as follows: Beginning on three white oaks on a hill side (same continued description as above original)… and the said heirs of Elias Cox doth by these presents Warrant & forever defend the right to said land to him the said Lane & his heirs as well against the claim or claims of them those heirs of Elias Cox doeth & their heirs as against the claims or claims of all and every other person or persons whatever. In Testimony whereof we have here unto set out hands and affixed our seals the day & date above written. Signed by Prudence Cox, J.B. Cox, Mary Cox (Mark), John L. Cox, Ruth Cox (Mark), Sara J. Cox, Sophronia B. Cox and B.R. Cox. The Commonwealth of Kentucky Pulaski County. William M. Fox Clerk of the County Court for the County aforesaid do hereby certify that the foregoing deed from Coxes heirs to Sam’l W. Lane was as appears from an endorsement on said deed in the handwriting of a former Clerk of the Court produced to him and acknowledged by Prudence Cox and John L. Cox & Ruth his wife on the 28 day of April 1849 to be their act and deed and the said Ruth Cox his wife being examined by me privily and apart from her said husband declared that she did freely and willingly sign seal & deliver said writing as her act and deed and consenteth that the same may be recorded. And afterwards on 9th day of May 1849 asked by Benjamin R. Cox & Sophronia Cox to be their act and deed, and again on the 30th day of June 1849 asked by Sarah Jane Cox to be her act & deed & fully asked on the 5th of July 1849 by John B. Cox & Mary his wife to be their act and deed and the said Mary Cox being examined by me privily and apart from her said husband declared that she did freely and willingly sign, seal & deliver said writing as her act & deed. And ask the same again shown to her to be her act & deed & consented that the same may be recorded. Whereupon said deed together with this certificate hath been duly recorded in my office.
