Cox of the County of Jackson in the State of Illinois of the first part and R. P. Scanland of Pulaski County State of Kentucky of the second part. Witnesseth that for the consideration of three hundred dollars in hand paid to the parties of the first part the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged. The party of the first part have this day bargained sold and hereby conveys rents the party of the second part his heirs and assignes the following described property viz: The undivided four fifths of a tract of land situate in Pulaski County KY on White Oak Creek. The whole tract containing sixty five acres more less and is the same conveyed by H.J. Pierce to Prudence Cox of record in Deed Book No 15 Page 369 Pulaski County Court Clerks Office to which reference is had. Beginning on Dick & Lewis’ line near the west corner on a black oak hickory & dogwood, now all down, thence North 140 poles to a white oak & dogwood on the clift of White Oak Creek. Thence North 60 E95 poles to a stone corner to a 37—tract conveyed by Prudence Cox to John Pennington. Thence South 140 poles to a rock on the edge of the road on the Old Military Line. Thence S60 W95 poles to the beginning. The land intended to be conveyed by this deed is the undivided four fifths of the above described land. To have and to hold the party of second part his heirs and assignes forever the land hereby conveyed with all the appurtenances thereon, with Covenant of “General Warranty”. Witness our hands this 14th day of April 1865. Witness John Ford. Sealed Christian Grear, his mark, Sarah Jane Great, her mark, Sophronia B. Cox State of Illinois Jackson County I Hugh Crawford Clerk of the County Court in and for said County do certify that Christian Grear and Sarah Jane Grear his wife and Sophronia B. Cox whose signatures appears to the foregoing deed and who are personally known to me to be the persons whose names are subscribed to such deed as having executed the same appeared before me this day in person and did acknowledge the same to be their free act and deed. And the said Sarah Jane Grear having been by me examined separate and apart from her said husband and the contents of said deed having been by me made known and explained to her, she acknowledged that she had executed the same voluntarily freely and without compulsion of the said husband, and does not wish to retract the same and she acknowledged this Deed as the right of inheritance. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my name and affixed the seal of said Court at my office in Murphysboro this 14th day of April AD 1865. Hugh Crawford County Clerk. I E. D. Scanland was this day produced to me in my office and filed for record properly certified and duly stamped as required by law act of Congress and that I have recorded said deed and certificate of acknowledgement as well as this certificate in my said office.
