Mr. T.M. Thatcher went to Cincinnati Sunday to tell the Husky Film Co. just what he thought about them for not getting a picture to him one night last week. "Uncle Tom" says it was rather an expensive trip just to express his opinion, but that it was worth it. News has been received here that Lieut. Joe Henry Hussing and Lieut. Stanley Waddle arrived in New York last Saturday and will soon be home. Both of these Somerset boys have been overseas with Uncle Sam's fighting forces for more than a year. After sixteen months service "overseas", Pvt. George H. Lyon of Science Hill, Ky., Co. B. 6th Infantry of the famous "fighting fifth" Div., is at home again. He was in several of the hardest fought battles of the war, injured in the Argonne and served on the Peace Commission. Captain and Mrs. Paul Dexheimer arrived this week from Camp Shelby, Miss., where Capt. Dexheimer was sent with his troops upon arrival in this country from overseas. He will be discharged on the 15th at Camp Zachery Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Brinkley Barnett of New York City are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N.L. Barnett. Mr. James Brady of Paris, Ky., has accepted a position in the Shoe Department of the Fair Store. Mr. Brady has worked in some of the largest shoe stores in the country and is an expert in this line. Captain and Mrs. Paul Dexheimer will leave today for Cincinnati to visit Mr. and Mrs. James Brett. Eubank. Miss Sallie Smith of Crab Orchard, Ky., is visiting her cousins Misses Fae and Berdena Gooch. Mrs. Spears leaves soon to make her home in New Castle, Indiana. Miss Marana Leigh accompanied her grandmother to Indiana. Elmer Coon and family of Indiana are visiting relatives here. Miss Fae Gooch who has been visiting relatives in Crab Orchard, has returned home. We regret to learn of the death of Mr. and Mrs. Clark's baby. Mr. George Reynolds and son Loyal left for Indiana to secure employment. Miss Mabel Acton is visiting relatives in Estesburg. Miss Pearl Reynolds is visiting in Danville. Mrs. Henderson and daughter Grace are back from a splendid visit in Louisville. Misses Jewel and Crystel Wesley of Louisville are visiting at this place. Miss Mae Todd is back from Springfield, Ohio. Mrs. Mollie Walcott of Ohio is visiting her parents here. Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Marcum motored to Indiana to visit relatives. To Ashland. The Kentucky State Sunday School Convention will be held at Ashland, Ky., August 19th to 22nd. There will be several delegates from this county. Mr. Wm. B. Gragg will attend. Norwood. Mrs. Edward Padgett and son Thomas of Ludlow, spent the past week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Phelps. Mr. Frank Phelps returned home Wednesday much improved after a two weeks stay at the Somerset Sanitarium. Mr. and Mrs. Kendrick Read have returned to their home in Louisville after a short stay with relatives.Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Duncan motored to Ludlow Thursday to visit relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kidd spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Land. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Herndon and son are visiting relatives in Virginia. Shafter. The revival meeting at New Bethel closed Thursday night. Louis Cassada of Science Hill spent last week with friends in Dogwood. There will be preaching at Waitsboro Sunday, August 10th, after which Rev. Abbott will baptize all who wish to be. Edward Girdler has returned from Illinois. George Dagley and wife were guests at Barret Marcum's last Saturday and Sunday. Coy Coffey is at home after a three weeks visit with his sister in Wayne County. Jimmy Hudson is very ill with dropsy. Mrs. Crouch and daughter Anna have returned home after a few weeks visit with her brother, John Frogg in Illinois Mt. Zion. W.T. York and G.W. Calhoun left last week for Illinois to work. Will and Sam Hollars of Wayne County spent Thursday night with Guster Hollars. Several from here attended the funeral of Mrs. Ollie Sweet at Sardis last Wednesday. Mrs. E.J. Hines and children of Science Hill visited Mrs. Frances Hines last week. Word was received here that Sister Ardis and Rev. H.H. Wyrick were married and now residing in Lisman, Alabama. Curtis Wesley of Eubank, who has been visiting here has returned home accompanied by his cousin Melvin Pittman. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Cassada visited his sister Mrs. C.Z. Hall last week. Sister McClurkin and Sister Bruner were called home at Nashville, Tenn. Therefore the revival at Wilson closed. Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Ogle and son of Frankfort, Indiana, are visiting her father J.E. Dickerson. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Vaughn and children and Miss Sarah Dick were visiting at Robert Copenhaver at Norwood, Sunday. The children of Guster Hollars are seriously sick at this writing. Personal Mention. John Cooper spent several days with friends in Danville and Lancaster. The bible class of Victor Stone enjoyed an outing at Parkers Mill yesterday. R.M. Feese spent Wednesday in Cincinnati where he went to buy an automobile. Mrs. Bryan Beeler who has been visiting relatives in Danville has returned to Somerset. Mrs. Kate Stigall and children have returned from a visit with relatives in Lincoln County. Mr. J.N. Cox, the "big gun" of the Gainesboro Telephone Co., was in the city this week on business. The Misses Beck, of McKinney are the guest of Mr. and Mrs. James Davis. Mrs. L.B. Lowenthal left Tuesday for Knoxville, Tenn., for a visit. Joe McGee left Tuesday for Louisville before starting on his fall trip through the south. Mrs. J.A. Cassada and children have returned from a visit to relatives in Chattanooga. Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Brown are spending the week with relatives in the Woodstock neighborhood. Miss Martha Riker of Harrodsburg arrived Wednesday to be the guest of Miss Barthenia Sallee. Miss Bertha Wolf of Washington D.C. is expected Sunday for a visit to the family of J.R. Cook. Mrs. J.E. Claunch was called to Danville on account of the serious illness of her brother, Jess Lynn. Mr. John McElroy who has been in the Navy for some time arrived home and is visiting his mother. Misses Ann Enright of Richmond and Nora Rourke of Paris, Ky., are the guests of Miss Marietta Farrell. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Frank and son, Beecher Smith, are spending the week at Crab Orchard Springs. Miss Ida York left Saturday for Washington, D.C., where she has accepted a position in the office of Congressman Robsion. Mr. Simons, at the head of the legal department of the Southern Railroad was in the city Monday on business. Mrs. Lula Roberts of Chattanooga, Tenn., is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hines. Mrs. Clay Hughes and son Charles Clay have returned form a two months visit with relatives in Lexington. Miss Bell Massey has returned from Middletown, Ohio, where she has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Arthur Poole. Mrs. Charles Ashurst and daughter Virginia left this week for a visit to relatives in Chicago and Alma, Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. F.E. Tustison have taken the home of Judge and Mrs. B.J. Bethurum for the remainder of the summer. F.E. Tustison left Tuesday for Bucyrus, Ohio, for a short visit. He expects to purchase an automobile while there and drive it back. Dr. Robert Richardson and his guests Mr. and Mrs. William Ardery of Paris, Ky., spent several days at Cumberland Falls last week. Miss Barthenia Sallee has been visiting Miss Martha Riker at Harrodsburg, Ky., and taking in the Mercer County Fair. Mrs. J.F. Lucas who has been visiting her father, Hardin Simpson, left this week for her home in Marshfield, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. V.D. Roberts, Dr. and Mrs. H.K. Fulkerson and Mrs. J.H. Thurman motored to Camp Boone to spend the week. Misses Iryin Wilson of Lexington, and Genevieve McCarthy, of Richmond, Ky., have returned home after a visit with Miss Marietta Farrell. The many friends of Mrs. W. B. Morrow will be glad to know that she is at home after several weeks illness in a hospital in Louisville. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. W. Finch of Miami, Fla., are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Clay Hughes. They also have as their guest Mrs. Deforest Walster of Winchester. Mrs. H.L. Fancher and daughter Miss Harvey have returned to their home at Chattanooga, Tenn., after a visit with her sister, Mrs. George P. Sallee. Mrs. Floyd P. Haynes of Washington, D.C., is visiting her mother and taking a two weeks vacation from her duties in the War Risk Insurance Bureau. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Cundiff and children who have been visiting his sister, Mrs. Evans Tate on the Monticello pike returned to their home in Lexington yesterday. Captain George Mourning was discharged from the service last Saturday at Camp Zachery, Taylor, Ky. After a visit in Louisville with relatives he will come to Somerset to be with relatives and friends. Mrs. Mary Pyle has returned to Washington, D.C., after a visit of two weeks with her sister, Mrs. D.W. Scott. Mrs. Pyle holds a very responsible position in the Bureau of War Risk Insurance. R.D. Stephens and family have returned from a trip to California. They left Somerset with the intention of locating in the west but after a few weeks traveling decided old Kentucky was about the best state in the union. Mrs. Charles Smiley and daughter Miss Ina Smiley of Hastings, Kansas, are visiting the family of Ed Moore. Mr. Moore entertained with a dance at the Elks Club in honor of Miss Smiley, Monday Evening. Mr. George L. Clavel and Miss Beatrice Phillips, both of this city, were married last week by Rev. D.W. Scott. Mr. Clavel is a prominent machinist at the Ferguson shops and his bride has been a nurse at the Somerset Hospital. Captain R.C. Sievers, who has just been discharged from the army, was in the city this week with friends. Captain Sievers was in the Medical Department and was promoted from a First Lieutenant to a Captain soon after entering the service. He will be located near Owensboro, Ky. Buncombe. Misses Belle and Martha McDonald were Sunday guests of Ima and Eura Robbins. The little infants of Mr. and Mrs. Guster Hollers are very sick. Della Godby spent Sunday with Miss Lonnie Keith. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Hall were weekend guests of W.R. Robbins. Miss Irene Young of Science Hill was the guest of Eura and Ruby Robbins. Montie Ashley spent the weekend with her sister Mrs. Ottis Thompson of Briery. Several from here attended the singing contest at Estesburg, Sunday. Burnside. Mrs. Geo. Ingram is visiting her daughter Mrs. Frost in Cincinnati. Lloyd Fitzgerald and Narval Marcum were in Somerset last week visiting friends. Captain Dave Heath is still on the sick list. Mr. Mitchel and family have moved back here. Crit Nunn is visiting his sister in Cincinnati, also his brother in Akron. Joe Jackson is at home with his family after being away for six weeks. J.W. Tuttle has been visiting his mother in Wayne county.
