Born May 26, 1927, in Pulaski County, he was a son of the late James Herbert Preston and Lizzie Mae Rogers Carmack. He was a retired construction worker and a member of Singletontown Church of God. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Preston Carmack Jr., and a daughter, Debbie Sue Carmack. Survivors include his wife, Mary June Sexton Carmack; four sons, Herbie, Mark, and Preston Carmack, all of Dayton, Ohio, and Cecil Carmack of Eubank; three daughters, Colleen Carmack of Mishawaka, Ind., Latonia "Sissy" Lovish of Dayton, and Ella Louise Peterson of Corbin; three brothers, Elmer Carmack of Kings Mountain, and Orland and Johnny Carmack, both of Eubank; three sisters, Lucille Pike of Stanford, and Carrie Anderson and Alice Carmack, both of Eubank; 21 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home by Landon Sexton and Greg Thorn. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery, with military rites by Caswell-Saufley American Legion Post No. 18. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday.
