Stone gas returned from a three weeks stay in Virginia, South Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee. - Miss Bessie Mullins spent several days here with Miss Eliza Pike. - Larkin Hicks was in Moreland later part of last week. - Mr. and Mrs. Spraule and children of Paris spent a portion of last week in Williamsburg and on their return stopped off here for a few days to see Mr. and Mrs. F. Francisco. - Miss Angie Hunt, of Maretburg, is visiting Mrs. Walter. - Miss Beulah Wallin has returned to home in Lincoln County after a three weeks stay here as the guest of Miss Carrie Frith. - Your humble servant had the honor and pleasure of eating "turkey" on Christmas with our good friend H. L. Tharp. Covers were laid for eight and the menu was fine. Certainly glad to have been there. "Henry" and all want to return is just a hint of an invitation. - Miss Emma Tatum, of Rileys, is visiting relatives and friends here. - Miss Elizabeth Tharp will leave Sunday for a two weeks stay in Danville as the guest of Misses Georgia and Elizabeth Vermilion. - Roy Minks, of Moreland, spent Xmas here with his cousin, Miss Bettye Hicks. - Misses Susie, Ethel and John Eva Hilton, of Stanford, were the guests of their aunt Mrs. Susie B. Cherry during the holidays. - Walter Miller, of Lebanon Junction, is spending a few days with his family here. - B. R. Wilmott and John D. Pike were up from Lebanon Junction and spent a portion of the week here. - Mrs. Emerson Rice. of Lebanon Junction was here during the holidays to see her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Painter. Miss Ada Wesley, of Liberty, is spending a few weeks with her grandmother, Mrs. M. S. Durham. - Rev. and Mrs. C. C. Wilson are visiting in Lincoln County this week. - Dr. O. O. Stone attended the Leap Year dance at the Crab Orchard Springs Wednesday night. - Miss Carrie Crain, of Lexington, is the charming visitor of Mrs. J. W. Tate. - W. T. Brooks came up from Brooks Station to spend Christmas with his family here. - Quite a crowd from Mt Vernon witnessed "Josiah Perkin's Courtship" at the opera house Christmas night. Among those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Sutton, Misses Eva Fish and Jennie Davis, Montye Martin, Messrs. Burdette and Willis McKensie, Jno. Fish, Tucker Bowling, Willie McBee, James Beaty, F. L. Thompson, Jr, Robert Harry Miller, O. V. Jarrett, Charles C. Davis and others. - Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hicks and children of Copper Creek spent the holidays with Rev. and Mrs. A. J. Pike. - George M. Frith and Frank McClary are at home from Berea to spend Christmas. - Mrs. Susie B. Cherry is visiting her sister, Mrs. Harry Hilton at Stanford. - Miss Bettye Hicks spent Saturday and Sunday with Miss Jennie Davis at Mt Vernon. - Miss Mattie Wilmott is at home from Williamsburg where she has been in school. - O. C. Wilmott, of Knoxville, Tenn., B. R. Wilmott, of Lebanon Junction, R. G. Wilmott, of Nepton, Ky., Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Brooks and Miss Mattie Wilmott, of Williamsburg, Mrs. Arch Brown and children, of Corbin, R. L. Slator, Miss Liza Yager and Thomas McRoberts. of Indiana were the ones who were very royally entertained by Mrs. M. E. Wilmott during the holidays. -- Thos. McRoberts, of Indiana, is here for a few days as the guest of his sister, Mrs. J. G. Frith. - The post office was moved today to its new quarters on Main Street and it is one any town would be proud of and Postmaster Robins is to be congratulated on his efforts to please the people in handling Uncle Sam's business in our town. - At the annual election of officers of Brodhead Lodge No. 566 F. & A. M. last Saturday the following officers were elected: Dr. W. E. Gravley, Master; Fred C. Durham, Senior Worden, Julian Borders, Junior Worden, A. M. Hiatt, Secy., J. Thomas Cherry, Treas., Sylvan Borders, Senior Deacon, M. B. Bowling, Junior Deacon. - The play at the opera house by the Brodhead Dramatic Club on Xmas night and the box supper on Saturday night was largely attended and well patronized. - Mrs. Orus Bowers will have a sale on Saturday January 9, 1909. She has for sale 1 cow and a big lot of household and kitchen furniture. Immediately after the sale, she will leave for Oklahoma. - We notice the Quail correspondent is fighting Rural Free Delivery of the mail and we can assure you that he has never lived on a rural route or he would be a hearty supporter of R. F. D. He says they will get their mail a day later which is a mistake. How many people at Quail get their mail five days late? Why, a good number of them. A man, Woman or child who would not favor R. F. D. must either live in a town or city. Is it not better to have your mail delivered at your door daily than to have to go to the post office which is four miles away through the mud and rain? LEVEL GREEN NEWS Christmas passed off quietly here, everyone seemingly enjoyed them selves, but there are none of us as grateful as we should be to an All wise Providence, for giving us the comfort and allowing us to enjoy the many privileges we enjoy from one year to another. - Miss Vira Deboard, of this place, and Lafayette Anderkin of Wildie were married at the home of the bride Thursday last. Rev. D. R. Gentry officiated. Miss Beboard was one of the county's foremost teachers, having been engaged in that calling for nine years. Mr. Anderkin is one of Rockcastle's noble young men and all who know him speak in the highest terms of his gentlemanly manners and character. They will reside at Level Green this winter. Here is hoping that their future will be happy, prosperous and contented. - R. L. Brown, of Somerset, spent Xmas holidays with homefolks at this place. - The Christian Church at this place has secured the services of Rev. John Todd of Woodstock for the ensuing year. The Rev. Todd is an able and conscientious minister and everyone is glad to welcome him as their leader. - Mr. Woodby, who moved to Lafollette, Tenn. last spring has returned to the Hamlin farm. - William J. Brown purchased from Chas. Herrin a milch cow for $25.00. Bill has moved to "Egypt" his old home place, and says he is glad to get back where his slumbers will not be molested by the hoot of the owl or the strains of the nightingale. - The farmers of this community are taking advantage of the beautiful weather and preparing corn ground and building fences. - Granville Hurst, son of William Hurst, who has been confined to his bed for several weeks from pneumonia, is improving and his physician says he will soon be out. - Mrs. Nancy Owens, of Livingston, is visiting her mother, "Aunt" Jennie Todd of this place. - Christmas was celebrated at the Chapel by a nice Xmas tree and appropriate recitation by children. - Mr. Dan Brown, of Missouri, but formally of this county is visiting relatives and friends at this place. PERSONAL NEWS Mrs. Della Rowzie has been very sick for several days. - Jack Laswell was over from Orlando last Saturday night. - Earl Britton, of Somerset, spent Christmas with his brother, Roy. - Lee Coffey has moved to the Hiatt farm in the Hiatt section. - Mrs. Booth Purcell and children spent Christmas with relatives here. - Joe Forbes, of Ford, Ky. is visiting his sister, Mrs. W. A. B. Davis. - Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Hughes visited relatives here last of the week. - Miss Daisy Fish spent Monday with her cousin, Miss May Jones at Wildie. - Miss Georgia McFerron is visiting her sister, Mrs. E. B. Cox at this place. - S. C. Franklin left yesterday for Bertha to be the guest of Dr. M. Pennington. - Mrs. Ida Webb, of Louisville, visited her sister Mrs. Ab Sparks during Xmas. - Jake Williams, of Somerset is spending Xmas with his aunt Miss Matt Williams. - Messrs. Charlie Adams and Will Branaman were over from Berea during the holidays. - Pretty little Miss Bernice Landrum has returned from a visit with relatives at Pittsburg. - Dr. Richardson, of Corbin, spent Thursday in town looking after some of the fair sex. - Mrs. Elmer Houk, of Maretburg, spent Xmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Martin. - F. R. Asher was in Laurel County looking after some important business matters. - Miss Tanna Thompson, of Crab Orchard, is visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Kitty Poynter. - Mrs. W. A. B. Davis is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Forbes of near Richmond, Ky. - Miss Gertrude Martin, of Brodhead, visited her cousin Miss Montye Martin first of the week. - W. H. Brown and family have entirely recovered from small pox and are going anywhere they please. - Mrs. Lillie Holmes, who was Miss Lillie Thompson, is the guest of her grandmother, Mrs. W. M. Poynter. - Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hutcheson came up and spent Sunday between trains with Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Salin. - Wheeler Meadows, of Lebanon Junction, spent Xmas with his brothers, Messrs. Jim and John Meadows. - Messrs. Edward Welch and W. J. Reed, of Alabama, were guests of the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Welch. - Not a single case of small pox has developed where there had been successful vaccination, even with those who stayed in the room and waited don those afflicted. - Miss McCord, Principal of the Brown Memorial, received a fall several days ago, which has given her considerable trouble but we are glad to know that she has about recovered. - Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Wallin spent a few days with Dr. and Mrs. S. C. Davis. Mr. Wallin is now L & N agent at Gum Sulphur and will go into the grocery business at that place. - Mr. L. T. Welch received a telegram from Richmond this morning that his son, Larry, who has been in the hospital at that place would have to undergo an operation. Mr. Welch will leave this afternoon for Richmond. - Mrs. E. B. Brown has been very sick for the past week. - Master Robert Fish spent Xmas with relatives at Norton. - Mrs. Jane Bloomer is visiting her sister, Mrs. Matilda Houk. - Mr. Roy Brown, a poplar young business man of Knoxville, Tenn. spent last Friday and Saturday in our town. - W., T. Taylor and son, Robert, were in from the Quail section and reported everything quiet. - Steve Carpenter is suffering from a pistol wound in his foot accidentally inflicted by himself while taking Xmas. - Walter Miller and Shirley Tate have not been victims of small pox but vaccination, which they say is some worse. - Horace Benton, clerk in the Master of Trains Office at Lebanon Junction spent most of last week with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. P. Benton. - J. G. Frith, L. A. Testerman, W. T. Brooks and A. J. Haggard, prominent citizens of Brodhead, were visitors in our town this week. - Sheriff R. L. McFerron left for Frankfort last night with Robert Mason who will have two years in the pen for forgery. - Mrs. Henry Catron, of Lincoln County, spent a portion of this week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Maret near Wildie. - Prof. Allen Barnett, who has just finished a very successful term of the Brodhead public school, is the pleasant guest of Victor Tate. - Miss Elizabeth Adams, of Campbell Hagerman College is at home for the holidays and has as her guest her classmate, Miss Peak. - Miss Stella Adams, of Berea, Miss Bettie Hicks, of Brodhead. and Roy Minks, of Moreland were guests of Misses Jennie and Annie Davis during Christmas. - Roy Lewis, a brother of Judge S. D. Lewis, who left this county nineteen years ago and located in Iowa is back for a visit, the first time since he left. - John Mullins spent Friday and Saturday of last week in Louisville. John is making splendid progress in learning telegraphy and will soon be able to take an office. - Chas. B. McKensie has returned from Oliver Springs, Tenn. where he has been assisting Prince Adams in the commissary of the Butler Coal Company during the holidays. - We are glad indeed to inform our readers that Dr. William A. Jones of Wildie, who has been down with typhoid fever in the Gibson Infirmary at Richmond in improving. - Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hutcheson of Burnside were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Salin last week. Mr. Hutcheson is cashier of the Burnside bank a splendid institution and a splendid man in charge. LOCAL NEWS HAMLIN/FRENCH Mr., Marlon Hamlin and Miss Bessie French were made one yesterday afternoon at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Lair near this place. Mrs. Hamlin is a daughter of Mr. Buck French one of Rockcastle's best men, who lives near Livingston. Mr. Hamlin is the son of Mr. A. H. Hamlin of this place and a bright young man.
