MT VERNON SCHOOL NEWS Monday September 22, the schoolboy patrol was reorganized in Mt Vernon High. Mr. Champion appointed four new members: Jack Lincoln Adams, Jack Conn Crawford, Jack Perciful and Benny Hall. Paul Owens who was a patrolman last year was appointed Captain. These boys will be placed at strategic points on Richmond Street and US 25 from Main Street to the school building. They will have full authority and all pedestrians and drivers should heed their instructions as a life may be endangered if they are not carried out. Students should follow these simple rules: Cross street only where there is a patrolman. When crossing, Walk DON”T RUN. Cross only when the patrolman signals. OBEY THE PATROLMAN. Paul Owens; Captain. McWhorter. – Mr. Dave Webb returned home after a visit with his son in Hamilton, Ohio. – Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Wallin of Somerset were here over the weekend. – Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Coffey of Harrodsburg are the guest of relatives. – Mrs. Edd Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sutton and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sutton were in Cincinnati Sunday and Monday visiting relatives. – Mrs. Harold Newlan was in Richmond to attend a funeral Thursday. Mrs. Newlan was accompanied home by her sister. – Miss Ophelia Cakes, Mr. Pedro and Miss Stephens, of Lancaster were Sunday guest of Miss Cakes’ aunt Mrs. Ida Meredith. – Messrs. Tim Buckley and Howard Hunt, tobacco buyers of Danville, were here Tuesday. – Mr. and Mrs. Henry Riddle and daughter, Darlene of Louisville were visiting relatives here over the weekend. They were accompanied here by Mrs. Etta Robins who had been visiting them. – Mr. and Mrs. Hope Cox and daughter, Kay, were the guests of her mother, Mrs. Katie Roberts on Sunday. – Mr. Millard Allen left Wednesday on a business trip to Chicago. – Mr. Ernest Masters who is working in Seco, Ky. is at home with his family. – Mrs. Betty Newland returned home from Dayton, Ohio after a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Cecil Smith and Mr. Smith.—Mrs. J, R. Cass has returned home after a visit with her son, Mr. Bob Cass and Mrs. Cass in Atlanta, Ga. – Mrs. John Henderson, Mrs. Betty Newland, Mrs. Bennett Hall and family, Mrs. Tony Laswell and family were in Garrard County to attend a homecoming of the Henderson family. – Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cummins of Mt Vernon were in town Monday. – A surprise birthday party was given Mr. Jack Fletcher Monday by Mrs. Jack Garrett, Mrs. Charley Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cummins of Mt Vernon on Monday. – Mrs. Creed Russell and Mrs. Rex McDaniels were hostess at a shower given at the home of Mrs. John Lunsford for Mrs. Tom O’Mara, Jr. of Mt Vernon. The large crowd in attendance reported a lovely time. Many beautiful and useful gifts were received by Mrs. O’Mara. HIATT NEWS by Miss Bonnie Berry We are glad to report that Uncle Whit Boyd is getting along very well. – Trosper McWhorter who has a position in Louisville was at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McWhorter over the weekend. – Aunt Mollie Hiatt is still very sick at this writing. – Mr. and Mrs. Amos Hampton and daughters of Hamilton, Ohio visited relatives here over the weekend. – Mr. and Mrs. Owens of Cincinnati spent Sunday night with Aunt Mollie Hiatt. Mrs. Owens will be remembered as Miss Rita Mae Sowder. – A revival will start at Oak Hill on October 6. Rev. Hubble will be assisted by Rev. Castleberry. Everyone is invited. – Mr. and Mrs. James Roberts of Gum Sulphur spent Saturday and Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Berry and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Roberts. – Rev. Bob Williams preached his regular sermon Sunday night at Happy Jack. – Miss Florence Prichitt of Indiana is with her sister, Mrs. Mollie Hiatt who is very ill. – Mrs. Givens Lear and children spent Sunday night with Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Singleton near Hickory. – Donald Holbrook of Letcher County is with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Crawford and going to school here. – Mr. and Mrs. Gravely Burton of near Little Rock visited her brother, Hubert Smith last Sunday. – Rev. Hubble filled his regular appointment at Oak Hill Sunday. – Mr. and Mrs. E. T.
