BRODHEAD BOOSTER NEWS by Miss Lillian Wallin DEATH: Charley Hindrickson Buried at Brodhead. Charley Hindrickson, 38, Nicholasville Barber, formerly of Mt Vernon, Ky. died at his home on Fourth Street on Nov. 28. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Carter Hindrickson; four daughters, Misses Patsy, Rhetta, Birdiann, and Charlene of Nicholasville, his mother, Mrs. Annie Mckinney of Brodhead, one brother, Robert Hindrickerson and two half brothers, Cecil and Marshall McKinney of Brodhead. The body was brought to Brodhead Thursday morning and funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. John T. Stallings of Nicholasville. Pallbearers were: B. S. Kurtg, Leslie Shearer, William Mckinney, S. S. Purcell Jr., Marshall McKinney and Tony Laswell. Out of town people attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. B. S. Kurtg and daughter Anita, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Shearer and daughters Mary and Bettye, Mrs. Frank Thomas, Mrs. J, M. Hubbard, and Juanita and Anita Mastin all of Nicholasville; Mr. and Mrs. W. J. McKinney and Vincent Kraft of Kansas City, Kan, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Owens and daughter Eva, Mr. Burdette Owens and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Owens of Corbin, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Owens, Mrs. B. B. Hall, Mrs. T. J. Niceley and daughter Nell Wanda, Mrs. Tip Langford, Mrs. Mary Boggess, Mrs. Minnie Felton, Mrs. D. C. Craig, Mrs. Robert Bird, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mullins and Mrs. C. C. Davis of Mt Vernon; Mrs. Bell Taylor of Conway; Mrs. Ruth Straubb of Covingtom; Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Albright of Eubank; Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Purcell of Virginia Beach, Va.; Mrs. W. M. Shafer of Lancaster; Mrs. Joel Gatliff of Newport. DEATH: Jessie Wallin, 66 years old, died Friday, Nov. 28. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mahan, interment in Piney Grove cemetery. The deceased was married to Miss Mary Ellen Farris who preceded him in death. To this union four children were born Raymond of Flemingsburg, Mrs. Beulah Padgett of Cincinnati, Mrs. Lena Cummins of Kingsport, Tenn., and Willie Wallin of Brodhead. Mr. Wallin married Mrs. Beatrice Ross in 1939 and she with the above children survive. BRODHEAD LOCAL NEWS Mrs. Arthur Hurst of Covington was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Crawford Tuesday. – Mrs. Belvin Hodge was the guest of relatives in Roundstone Sunday. – Mrs. Rose McCord of Berea has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Anderson. -- Mr. and Mrs. Wajel Robins, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Albright of Louisville were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Robins last weekend. – Mr. and Mrs. Earl Parsons of Louisville were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McBee. – Mr. Homer Parsons of Richmond spent the weekend with his sister Mrs. C. W. Smith and Mr. Smith. – Mrs. William Bicknell returned to their home in Franklin, Ohio after a three weeks visit with her daughter, Mrs. Grover Coffey and Mr. Coffey. – Mrs. Willis Coffey who has been seriously ill is improving rapidly. – Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Purcell of Virginia Beach, Va. are here with relatives. – Mr. Sam Hoskins left Monday for Cincinnati. – Mr. and Mrs. John Howard, Jr. if Pineville were the guests of his sister Mrs. Henry LaFevers and Mr. LaFevers. – Mr. Henry LaFevers has been quite ill. – Mr. O. J. Collett and Mr. Millard Allen were in Louisville Tuesday on business. – Mrs. Lily Osborne is reported on the sick list. – Mr. M. G. Albright had his tonsils removed at the Berea hospital Tuesday. – Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Helms spent the day Sunday in Parksville. – Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Elder were in Louisville Sunday to spend the day. They were accompanied home by Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Elder who attended the funeral of their Uncle Mr. Dave Elder. – Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Brown have bought and moved into the late Jess Wallin property. – Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hasty have moved into the Albright property recently vacated by Mr. and Mrs. William Mullins who has moved to Mt Vernon. – Mrs. H. A. Hall and son Byron Brooks returned Saturday from a three weeks visit with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James Ray Edwards at Falls Church, Va. – Mr. and Mrs. Frank Painter and Miss Ellen Painter left Monday for Florida to spend the winter. – Mrs. Bob Haff of Philadelphia, Penn. is the guest of her mother, Mrs. Mary Gravely and other relatives. – Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gravely and children were here from London Sunday to spend the day with relatives. – Miss Amanda Kincer is in Louisville as the guest of her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Kincer. – Mr. Byron Owens, Jr. spent Saturday and Sunday in White Mills as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Parsons. He was accompanied home by Mrs. Owens who had been their guest for a week. – Mrs. Fred Greene left Sunday for her home in Middletown, Ohio after a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cox. Twin sons were born Tuesday to Mr. and Mrs. Hobert Brown. They have been named Teddy and Eddie. HIATT NEWS by Bonnie Berry We are glad to report Uncle Whit Boyd who has been sick for sometime is much better. – Mrs. Nancy Treadway is with her sister, Mrs. W. J. Alcorn for a while. – Mrs. George Frey and son Ben of Louisville spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Berry. – Edgar Leece returned from Cincinnati and reports his son Harmon much better. – Aunt Mollie Hiatt was at home from Berea last Thursday. Aunt Mollie is slowly improving. – G. H. Berry, Sief Parkerson and Champ Crawford were in Lexington Monday with a load of tobacco. – Givens Lear was in London last week on the jury. – Mr. and Mrs. Ed Boyd of Indianapolis, Ind. has returned home after a few days visit with his father, Whit Boyd. – Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Smith and children took Thanksgiving with her Brother, Emmett Crawford at Mt Vernon. – Raymond Lang and Tom Frey of Louisville spent Sunday night with G. H. Berry on their way to Tennessee with a load of pottery. – Mr. and Mrs. Amos Hampton of Ohio are with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Frith. – Rev. Williams is holding a revival at Happy Jack. – Mrs. Earl Parsons and little son are visiting her mother, Mrs. Hugh McBee and other relatives. – Mrs. Ben Holbrook and three small children of Whitesburg were with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Crawford last week. – Lorene, the 19 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charley Singleton died at her home near Hickory Grove, on the 23rd with heart trouble. She was buried at the Saylor burying grounds on Monday. MT VERNON NEWS WEDDING: Doris Niceley the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Niceley was quietly married to Charles Harris, son of Mrs. Myrtle Harris of Brodhead Nov. 20th by Green Carpenter. Their many friends wish them happiness and joy. -- All citizens are asked not to burn leaves on streets that have been oiled. The fire will burn the oil, and a hole will form in the roadbed. Also, several have been dumping ashes in the streets. This is strictly against the law. We sincerely ask for your cooperation on the above, which when enforced will mean a cleaner and better town in which to live. THIRTY-TWO GUESTS AT DESSERT BRIDGE: Mrs. Fritz Krueger and Mrs. W. L. Simpson entertained their bridge club and guests Monday evening, December 1. at the new home of the former. Dessert of fruitcake with whipped cream and coffee was served. Donovan received the guest prize. WOMAN’S CLUB TO HOLD BANQUET The Mt Vernon Woman’s club will hold their Christmas banquet at Renfro Valley Thursday evening Dec. 11 at 6:00 p.m. This will be an open meeting and anyone who wishes to attend may get their tickets from Mrs. E. R. Denny, Mrs. John Griffin or Mrs. W. L. Simpson. Tickets will be $.75 and all who plan to attend are urged to get their tickets before Monday Dec. 8 as reservations will not be accepted after that date. SORGHUM WEEK TO BE OBSERVED A new week for a brand new cash crop for Kentucky will start Monday, and Governor Keen Johnson will make a special proclamation for the event. Merchants over the State will feature sorghum this week, and A & P stores will have a special sorghum fruit cake at all their markets. At present eight sorghum co-ops are operating at Louisa, Hawesville, Morehead, Waynesburg, Murray, Paintsville and Mt Vernon. The 1941 crop is estimated to be 20,000 gallons.
