SELECTED NEWS ITEMS James Madison Crawford born Sept. 11, 1828 died suddenly at Gus Staverson's sawmill on his way home from town. James Landrum was the Agent of the L&N railroad. A time table listed the times for trains: 24 north -- 12:10 p.m., 26 north -- 1:37 am, 23 south -- 1:29 p.m., and 25 south -- 1:13 am. (In later years, trains 26 and 25 were changed to 22 and 21 respectfully.) Miss Martha A.. Doan and Mr. J.W. French were married Wednesday, the Rev W.H. Osborne officiating; The board of town trusteees will meet at store of D.C. Poynter Saturday night. A full attendance is desired. Passenger train No. 24 ran 4 hours late Wednesday and 1 1/2 hour late yesterday. No. 24 is almost as uncertain as No. 26. We understand that Mode Crawford has sold his farm near Kingston, Madison county. We have not learned where he will locate. Tip Herds second daughter died Tuesday night and was buried Wednesday. We understand that the doctor says her death was due to jumping a rope, which is practiced excessively by the younger set. The directors of The Bank Of Mt Vernon met last Saturday and decided to have a vault put in the bank building. As the bank does not own building they have been a little slow in having this work done, as the safe up till the present answered all the requirements. CHEAP RATES -- The L&N will sell tickets to Cincinnati Sept. 6 and 7, limited to Sept. 15th, for $4.79 round-trip, account of the fall festival. TO: LEXINGTON -- The L&N will sell tickets to Lexington Sept. 8 to 12, limited to Sept. 14th, for $3.05 round-trip, account of colored Fair. A large crowd assembled at Scafford Cane last Sunday. Rev. J.J. Haley delivered a sermon and C. C. Williams made an address. The amount collected was $130.00. LIVINGSTON NEWS Miss Nannie Caldwell is visiting at Lebanon Junction. Smith Kelly has moved to a new house on Main Street. Miss Carrie Lair, of Mt Vernon is visiting Miss Lida Cook. Miss Jennie Hammonds is visiting Mrs. Douglas, at Jelico. That old corncracker, John Mullins was at Richmond Monday. Judge Boreing is very sick at Eight Gables Hotel, with pleurisy. Mrs. Ed Price and children of Covington, are the guests of Mrs. John Walton. Chas. Redd, of Crab Orchard, were here Tuesday. Born, to Mrs. Buck French, a little son -- "Archie Cooper" -- Monday Aug. 31st. Sam Ward, Jr., of Louisville is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ward. Mrs. George Reynolds and son, Cecil visited relatives at Brush Creek Tuesday. Sam McGee, chief clerk of J.C. Hocker & Co. Is attending the fair at Barbourville. Miss Cordia Mullins is visiting her sister, Mrs. Chas. Harris at Middlesboro. Mrs. R.C. Wade opened a select school Monday morning. She has 15 scholars enrolled. Mrs. Eliza Mullins, of Sinks, was here Monday to have a finger lanced by Dr. Cooper. Mrs. J.S. Cooper visited Mrs. Buck French, at her country home Monday and Tuesday. Mrs. E.S. Elmore, will have a line of new fall hats in the last of the week, and invites the ladies to call. Misses Helen Sawyers and Alta Reynolds, of Brodhead, were the guests of Mesdames Reynolds and Capps. Mrs. John Newland and children, of Brodhead, are here visiting Mrs. Emerson Rice and Mrs. W.C. Swinford. W.C. Mullins and John Brown of Mt Vernon town, spent several days this week in Louisville and Frankfort. James Anderson and Rufus Childress, of Orlando, and Charles Childress, of Oklahoma, were the guests of Dr. J. W. Childress, Tuesday. Mrs. Mary Quinn was called to Jelico, Monday, on account of the serious condition of her sister, Mrs. Henry Jones, who is very low with consumption. Miss Mae Magee will leave Saturday, for Lancaster, so as to be ready for the beginning of the fall term of school. The family will move October 1st. John Stewart and family moved to Lebanon Junction, Tuesday, Mrs. Ferguson, of Mt Vernon, will occupy vacated by the Stewart family. Miss Fannie Redd, of Crab Orchard, was the guest, Saturday and Sunday, of Dr. And Mrs. Cooper. She was on her was home after a pleasant visit at Winchester. Dr. Emma Baldwin, state Commander of the lady Maccabees, of Louisville, was here Monday. To instruct the Hive here in the many little laws and mysteries of their craft. Sydney McGuire returned to Lee county, where he has a position with the R.R. Co., Saturday, after an extended visit with his parents, Mr. And Mrs. James McGuire, Mrs. Susie Mullins is in good spirits again spelling prosperity with a big "P". She says she is going to improve her numerous dwelling houses and property; has no houses to rent. Everything is on a boom. Mrs. James Panel was thrown off a mule Wednesday and was painfully injured, suffering a fracture of the hip. She was carried home on a stretcher. Dr. Copper pronounced her not being in a dangerous condition. Little Miss Carrie Farley entertained a large crowd Monday afternoon in honor of her ninth birthday anniversary. Those present were: Ethel Mudd, Cora Wright, Cinea Parker, Pearl Anglin, Willie Tubbs, Mary Alma and Nora Lynn Pope, Nellie and Lillie Cater, Carrie and Ella May Farley.
