Lechleiter returned to Livingston Monday. - Miss Maud Graham is the guest of Miss Anna Tate. - Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Brown are visiting relatives here. - Miss Margarite Fish has returned from school in Virginia. - Chester Landrum is with relatives in Pittsburg this week. - Mrs. Rowzee and Essie Painter are visiting relatives here. - Mrs. J. W. Tate spent Saturday until Monday with Mrs. Alice Tate. - D. E. Davis has returned to his work as guager near Lawrenceburg. - Mr. and Mrs. Felix Bowman attended church on Skeggs Creek Sunday. - Horace Benton, chief clerk to Master of Trains Dilley, was here Tuesday. - Messrs. I. R. McCracken and Jack Scott were over from Goochland Monday. - Miss Florence Pennington was the guest of relatives here Sunday. - Eugene Orndorff, B & O engineer, was a welcome visitor to our town Saturday. - James Proctor is at McHenry this week. We are glad to see Jim improving in health so rapidly. - "Red" Mullins and Charlie Latham, of Level Green, were in Richmond Monday selling some cattle. - Misses Stella Adams, Maggie and Ella Dooley were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Johnson last week. - Ray Bently has returned to his home in Louisville after a pleasant visit with his sister, Mrs. R. A. Sparks. - Supt. G. M. Ballard, Dr. Dyche and S. E. Chandler witnessed the closing exercises of Berea College Wednesday. - Little Misses Emma and Joe Davis have returned home after a pleasant visit with Mr. and Mrs. Will Merrick. - Mrs. G. T. Johnson and children Hazel and Master Will, are visiting in Berea and attending the commencement exercises of Berea College. - Mr. J. A. Proctor, Mill Wright, for the Mt Vernon Roller Mills, came Monday and immediately began his task of putting same in operation. - Misses Myrtle Adams, Cora Griffin and Jennie Davis are the guests of Miss Stella Adams, of Berea and attending the commencement exercises. - On the Kentucky Home coming train from Dallas, Texas, are Mrs. R. J. Bennet and Mrs. J. M. Husband, who will come to Mt Vernon, the latter part of the month to visit their sister, Mrs. L. T. Welch. - Mrs. M. L. Denham and children have returned to their home at Corbin, after several days visit with relatives near Sand Springs. Mr. Denham came down with them but remained over night only. He is still with the L & N running between Corbin and Knoxville. -- Atty. J. W. Brown and Master Jamie Thompson were in Louisville yesterday to see the ball game between Louisville and Columbus. Jamie, who is only about ten years old, is a great baseball enthusiast and his familiarity with the names, positions, records and doings in general of the league players is indeed remarkable. It was because of these facts that Lawyer Brown invited Jamie to accompany him on the trip. LOCAL NEWS The six-month old baby of Mr. and Mrs. Pleas Ramsey died Monday. (Pleas Ramsey 1870 -1947 was my grandmother's, Ellen Ramsey Wolf Evans 1860 -1957 brother. His wife was the former Bessie Burdette 1884 - 1945) - The county teacher's institute will be held at Brodhead this year. The date will be announced later. - Mr. Beaty, propietor, informs us that the Mt Vernon Roller Mills will be in operation by July 15th. - W. A. B. Davis lost a fine cow Wednesday from some unknown cause. She was easily one of the best in the county. - LOST: Between Brown Memorial School and J. P Lechleiter's last Sunday, a buggy robe. W. T. Crawford. Brodhead, Ky. - Mrs. Joe Kirbyndoll, who was Miss Nancy Hurd, daughter of Tip Hurd, died yesterday after an illness of several weeks of consumption. - The Col. M. L. Clarks & Son will be in Mt Vernon next Wednesday. This show was here two years ago and gave an exhibition well worth the money. -- A large and appreciative audience witnessed last evening, the closing exercises of the Brown Memorial School, at the Brown Memorial Chapel. Full account next issue. - Rev. C. J. Sipple will preach at the Baptist Church the second Sunday morning at 11 o'clock. He has organized the Methodist church at this place and will preach there one Sunday of each month. - The Willing Workers realized something over $50.00 from The Merry Widow play given at the courthouse last Friday evening. The same will probably be given at Brodhead and Livingston at early dates. - J. G. Burk is again proprietor of the restaurant in the basement of the old brick. T. J. Pennington will go to Livingston and take an interest in the Eight Gables Restaurant with his brother S. E. Pennington. - Miss Wander Lechleiter entertained some of the Livingston ball team Saturday evening. Those present were Messrs. E. W. Bruner, A. A. Akers, Fred Pike, Jim Burton and Roscoe Pike. They were accompanied by Misses Alice and Nora Burton, Sara Alcorn and Ella Stanley. - The best ball game witnessed in Mt Vernon in a long time, was played last Saturday afternoon between Mt Vernon and Livingston. The score stood 6 to 5 in favor of Livingston. The home boys played fine ball except when they came to bat, when it seemed they were wholly unable to judge in any particular, the balls of Bruner, from London, who was in the box for Livingston. To the splendid work of Bruner and Pike is due the victory for Livingston. The Mt Vernon boys played hard and did splendid field work. They will try again July 4. SPIRO NEWS Everybody around here seems to be hustling getting their corn out of the weeds since it has quit raining. - There was quite a crowd from this place attended the decoration at old Mt Pleasant last Saturday. - Miss Mary Dillingham and Alza Wells visited Mrs. George Owens at Level Green from Friday until Sunday. - Mrs. M. G. McKinney visited friends at Hansford last week. - Mr. James Brown and family, Mr. Mat Brown and family, and Mrs. Martha Brown spent last Sunday at Mt Vernon as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Baker. - Mrs. Sophia Owens and two little daughters, and Miss Mattie Owens spent last Saturday and Sunday with Mrs. Owens; mother, Mrs. Goff in Pulaski County. - Mr. E. R. Gentry was calling on one of Maretburg's belles last Sunday. - Mr. Bert Owens and wife were visiting friends at Brodhead Saturday and Sunday. - Mr. Bill Brown and Mr. H. G. Gentry, of Hazel Patch, visited homefolks Saturday and Sunday. - There was in interesting singing at Freedom Sunday evening and will be singing next Sunday evening and Sunday school at 9 a.m. - Frank Sexton and wife have returned from an extended visit to friends at Line Creek. - Jim Sowder, of Brodhead, is visiting his sister, Mrs. Rile Owens, this week. - Miss Ethel Dillingham has gone to Pineville to make her future home. - Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hahn visited Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Shutts, at Bromo Sunday last. - There will be singing contest at Freedom on 4th of July. - Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Owens, Uncle Albert and Miss Mattie Owens, Sam and Helen Sayers, and Ed Gentry, of Spiro, Mr. Granville Owens and family, W. H. Graves and Virgil Martin, of Brodhead, had a most delightful outing on the banks of Dix River Friday last. About 20 pounds of fish were caught, and in the beautiful beech grove the fish were fried and the party enjoyed a most delightful dinner. WILDIE NEWS Mrs. Willie Coffey is on the sick list. - Several people from this place are attending the commencement exercises at Berea. - James Coffey, who has been to Richmond at the Gibson Infirmary has returned home much improved and we have hopes for a speedy recovery. - Thos. Barnet continues to improve. - Rev. Masters, of Corbin, preached here Saturday and Sunday. - Mrs. Jane McNew and two bright little children, of Havelock, Neb., are visiting relatives at Brush Creek and Wildie. - Mr. Harrison Reams and Mrs. Laura Reams were visiting Mrs. W. D. Laswell first of the week, -- Mrs. Polly Laswell was the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Alice Cox, from Saturday until Tuesday. - Rev. Winkle, of Berea, will preach here next Saturday and Sunday. - Little Miss Lena Hundley visited her cousin, Edith Laswell, last week. - Mrs. Fannie Crawford and family, of Brodhead, were the guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Branaman last week. (Mrs. Crawford 1874 -1946 was my wife's, Norma Crawford Evans', grandmother) - Misses Bertha and Nell Riddle were visiting "Grandma" Riddle Saturday and Sunday. - Mrs. Riddle and children moved to Richmond Monday. - Dr. Laswell and Rance Coffey were in Richmond last week on business. - Mr. Alex Manus was down to see his sister, Mrs. Sarah Mason of Dudley, Sunday and reports her doing very well. - Mr. G. R. Reams was visiting his daughter, Mrs. W. D. Laswell and Mrs. Jane McNew, Tuesday. QUAIL NEWS Alex Proctor has returned home from Indiana. - Miss Angie Poynter, of Livingston, is spending a few days with her aunt, Mrs. Logan Scott. - Melvin Owens, the writer, who has a severe case of the grip, is on the mend. - Lincoln and Bud Stringer left Monday for Lily, Ky. - Earnie and David Herrin and Ben Parrot, of Mt Vernon, have been doing some carpentering work for Ben Riddle, of near Walnut Grove. - James Albright, of Ottawa, called on one of Quail's fairest young ladies Sunday. - Mrs. Jacob Elder spent Monday until Tuesday with her son, Walter Elder, near Eubanks. - There has been some talk of the Farmer's Telephone Co. extending the line from Bee Lick to Brodhead. - Services will be held at Bethel Sunday, conducted by Rev. R. E. Todd. - J. M. Craig took off a nice bunch of hogs Monday. - Ben Albright was in Mt Vernon Tuesday on business. - J. W. Stringer and wife attended the decoration at old Mt Ephesus in Lincoln County, Saturday. - Mrs. Sallie Craig is in very poor health. - H. G. Sutton, of this place has decided to change location and is selling his entire stock of goods at cost and is doing a good business. - Little Misses Gracie Sutton and Susie Cummins have returned home from the Danville D. D. School. - J. A. Proctor, of Quail, has sold his fine saddle mare to Oscar Mullins, of Level Green for $150. - Among the papers of Rev. Farris, 1829, M. Hunt, 1838, J. B. Carson, 1839. The above named papers are in the hands of John A. Owens, son of Rev. Martin Owens, deceased. Said receipts are written on un-ruled paper. There are many more which I will not give at present. Anyone wishing to see the papers can call on Mr. John Owens. LEVEL GREEN NEWS The farmers are very busy working in their corn this pretty weather. - On Sunday at 12 o'clock the death angel visited the home of Jack McMullin and claimed for its victim his aged mother, who for only a few days had been unconscious with a stroke of paralysis. - There was a large crowd down from Mt Vernon, and also from the Freedom section Saturday to attend the decoration at old Mt Pleasant church. - Mrs. M. B. Debord, of Somerset passed through on her way to Mt Vernon to visit relatives and friends. - W. S. Debord and wife of Somerset, were visiting the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John McKinney Saturday and Sunday. - G. C. Price has returned from Louisville where he has been attending the medical college. - Mrs. Bart Sams, of Livingston, is visiting her father, J. P. Mullins. - Mrs. J. J. Brown is visiting her son at Pittsburg. - Mrs. Tanna Lawrence, of Hyden, is visiting Mrs. Elizabeth Lawrence. - O. H. Debord, bought of J. M. Craig a mule for $125. - "Red" Mullins bought of William H.
