MT VERNON LOCAL NEWS BRIDGE PARTY Mrs. C. C. Davis was hostess to her bridge club and guests Thursday evening October 30 at her home on Richmond Street. Dessert of chiffon pie and coffee was served to four tables. Club members and guests present included Mrs. C. W. Miller, Mrs. Alex Milan, Mrs. Ann Miller, Miss Shirley Miller, Miss Ruth Mullins, Mrs. Shirley Riddle, Mrs. Russell Warren, Mrs. Charles Gibson, Mrs. D. C. Craig, Mrs. T. A. Griffin, Mrs. J. Dinnelle, Miss Dorothy Haff, Mrs. R. B. Bird, Mrs. E. R. Denny, Mrs. M. R. Maggard and Mrs. Martha Griffith. High club score was held by Mrs. Martha Griffith, Second was Mrs. Ann Miller, High guest score went to Mrs. Dorothy Haff and second was Mrs. C. W. Miller. Mrs. J. Dinnelle received the guest prize. Mrs. Margie Weaver and Miss Edna Sowder spent the weekend with relatives in Cincinnati and Madison, Ind. – Mrs. Delbert Isaac and children have returned home to Cincinnati after visiting her parents here. – Mrs. Roy Hobbs and Miss Evelyn Weaver were in Lexington Saturday to enter little Lenabeth in the hospital. – Miss Amelia Denny and Ben Elder of Louisville were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gibson. Miss Denny and Mrs. Gibson are sisters. – Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Shackleford of Tucson, Arizona spent the weekend with Mrs. N. J. Tipton and Mrs. Delores Fairchild. – Mrs. Elmer DePoyster returned to her home in Central City, Ky. Sunday after spending two weeks with her daughter Mrs. Ed Henry. – Mrs. E. Henry and Mrs. Elmer DePoyster spent Sunday in Lexington. – Mrs. C. C. Davis is spending this week in Danville. – Mrs. E. Henry and Mrs. Elmer DePoyster spent Sunday in Lexington. – R. H. Chrisman, Jr. of Dayton spent the weekend with Mrs. Ann Miller and Miss Shirley Miller. – Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Lay went to Middlesburg Monday to attend the funeral of Mr. Billy Riggins. – Mrs. Mary Young and Mrs. J. J. Felton spent Sunday in Liberty visiting Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Moore. -- Mrs. Ben Bray spent Tuesday in Lexington. – Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Cox and Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Spencer of Dayton, Ohio spent the weekend with Mrs. E. B. Cox. – Mrs. D. L. Bryant of Lebanon Junction arrived Tuesday to spend the remainder of the week with Mrs. E. B. Cox. – Gus McFerron of Camp Shelby, Miss. is spending his two week furlough with his parents Mr. and Mrs. R. L. McFerron. . BRODHEAD LOCAL NEWS by Miss Lillian Wallin HOMEMAKER’S CLUB The Homemaker’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Virgil Martin on Tuesday. – The meeting was called to order and the creed read by the President, Mrs. A. M. Hiatt. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by the Secretary, Mrs. J. G. DeVault and approved by the Club. The roll call was answered with “Something we are thankful for today.” Everyone had a very interesting answer. There were 18 members present and we are glad to welcome Mrs. Charley Smith as a new member. Mrs. Neville Garrett was back with us after being absent for sometime because of illness. We are very glad to have her back. Suggestions were given by the finance committee on ways and means to earn money for our club. A food sale is to be given on Saturday November 15. A delicious lunch consisting of vitamin B was served. After lunch Mrs. Henry Anderson gave a very interesting talk on Vitamin B and told how essential Vitamin B is to the body and how it adds years to the life if enough of it is supplied to the body in the middle years of life. Games were played and enjoyed by everyone. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Harold Newlan. HALLOWEEN PARTY NETS $111.00 The Halloween party given at the school and sponsored by the P.T.A. was a great success. The proceeds amounted to $111.00. Miss Lyda Jones of the Senior Class was elected Carnival Queen. Master Billy McWilliams and Miss Diane Sowder received the prizes for the fanciest costumes. Mrs. Hope Cox and Mrs. Jack Wright were the tackiest and the prizes for the best disguised went to Mrs. Cecil McKinney and Mrs. Virginia Owens. LOCAL NEWS ITEMS Mrs. Angie Phillips is now working at the Crosley’s Radio Company in Cincinnati. – Mrs. W. E. McWilliams is on the sick list this week. She is suffering from an infected foot. – Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Smith and sons and Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Smith spent Sunday in Richmond with Mrs. Smith’s father Mr. C. A. Parson and Mrs. Parsons. – Dr. and Mrs. W. E. McWilliams and son Billy were in Lexington the first of the week. – Mrs. Angie Phillips, her sister Mrs. Ruth Dorman and Mr. James Petry, all of Cincinnati were weekend guests of Dr. and Mrs. G. T. Payne. – Mrs. Katie Roberts and Mrs. J. R. Cass were in Lexington Sunday to visit Mrs. Lily Littell. – Miss Norma Jean Parsons spent the weekend with her sister, Mrs. Charley Smith and Mr. Smith. – Mrs. E. R. Wade and son E. R. Jr. and Woodward Lunsford of Frankfort have been the guests of Mrs. Jack Garrett. – Mrs. Shirley Adams and little daughter have joined Mr. Adams who is working in Harrodsburg. – Mr. and Mrs. Wajel Robins of Louisville spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Robins. – Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Hall of Elizabethtown were the weekend guest of his parents Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Hall. – Mrs. W. E. McWilliams and son Billy spent Sunday in Mt Vernon with her father, Mr. J. W. Dillingham who celebrated his 60th birthday. – Mr. Jack Pike of Louisville was the weekend guest of Miss Peryda McWilliams. – Mrs. J. R. Cass returned home Friday after a two weeks visit with her daughter, Mrs. Bronston Elder and Mr. Elder at Stanford. – Mr. Delmas Owens, Mt Vernon Ernest Robbins and Mrs. Etta Robbins were in Louisville Sunday to bring Miss Mattie Robbins home from Hazelwood Sanatorium. – Mr. Henry Morgan and daughter Louise of Corbin spent the weekend here with his wife and and son Henry Morgan. – Mrs. Earl Mullins was in Louisville over the weekend. – Mr. and Mrs. George Lee Roberts and daughter Jackie of Junction City were here last week because of the illness of Avrill Bullock. – Friends of Mrs. Ed Payne will be glad to know that she was able to return home from the Danville hospital. – Jack Garrett was home from Cincinnati last week with his family. – Mrs. Rose Purcell has been visiting Robert Purcell ar Rose Hill. – Mr. and Mrs. Walter Robins and Mr. and Mrs. Wajel Robins attended the show at Renfro Valley Saturday. – Messrs. Leslie Elder, Robert Hendrickson and George Brooks were in Lexington Monday. – Mr. Stewart Gates and Miss Emma Mae Wells of Richmond were Sunday guests of Rev. and Mrs. Harold Newlan.—Miss Amanda Kincer returned home Sunday from a visit with her brother, Mr. Curtis Kincer and Mrs. Kincer in Louisville. – Mr. Homer Parsons of Richmond was the guest of his sister, Mrs. Charley Smith Saturday enroute to Louisville. – Rev. Warren Filkin is in Glasgow holding a two weeks revival. – Miss Rosella Frith of Cincinnati is the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Frith. – Mr. D. H. Gray was in Cincinnati on business Monday. – We are glad to report that Mr. Johnny Lunsford is able to be out again after his operation. – Miss Rosela Frith and nephew Jimmy Frith spent the weekend in Louisville with Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Brooks. – Mr. and Mrs. Elmore Hayes of Louisville have been visiting her mother, Mrs. Rob Harris and Mr. Harris. – Mr. Walter Robins was in Somerset Friday on business. – Mr. and Mrs. Norton Scott of Crab Orchard were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Shaw Thursday. – Mrs. Avill Bullock is still seriously ill with pneumonia. – Friends of Mr. Cy Owens will be glad to know that he is rapidly improving. – Mr. John Kincer who works in Cincinnati was at home over the weekend with his family. – Mr. John Howard, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Storms of Pineville were the guests of Mr. Howard’s sister, Mrs. Henry Lafevers and Mt Vernon Lafevers over the weekend. – Mr. Hope Cox was at home from Williamsburg for the election. – C.
