Myers was in Louisville yesterday. - George T. Johnson made a business trip to Knoxville this week. - J. C. Adams made a business trip to Lafollette this week. - Supt G. M. Ballard made a business trip to Berea Monday. - Dr. P. Benton spent most of the week in Brodhead and Crab Orchard. - William Mullins is soon to return to Mt Vernon and be a resident of the town. - Mrs. W. H. Carmical spent Sunday with her brother, Bart Sams, at Pine Hill. - Hon. Sam Ward was here this week looking after some important business matters. - Mrs. O, V. Jarrett returned yesterday from a visit to relatives at Brodhead. - Charlie Reynolds, the hustling L & N Agent, at Livingston spent Sunday here. - Miss Ida Mae Adams is conducting her private school in public school building. - Dr. D. B. Southard will open a new office in the Peoples bank building in a few days. - S. Fuqua, the London liveryman, came down Saturday and reports business good in his line. - J. Clontz is soon to begin the erection of a nice residence in the Sparks and Davis addition. - Miss Katie Cass, of Brodhead, spent a few days with her cousins, Misses Butner at this place. - Miss Louana Whitehead returned Monday from a weeks visit with her brother, Charlie, at Livingston. - Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Reynolds, of the Wildie section, were in the first of the week having dental work done. - Robert Childress a son of the late John C. Childress, of Orlando, will leave Sunday to locate in Oklahoma. - R. H. Hamm and Granville Owens were pleasant visitors in our town between trains Sunday afternoon. - C. D. Sutton has resigned as clerk for U., G. Baker and Edgar Mullins at this place. - Marion Hamlin and his young wife will leave in the near future for Speedwell, Tenn., where they will go to housekeeping. - Mr. and Mrs. Meshac Gentry spent Saturday and Sunday at the hospitable home of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Smith near Hiatt. (Mr. and Mrs. Smith were Bogue and Stella Smith. I walked by their home on way the catch school bus during my first year in high school. Although they were no relation, I always called them uncle Bogue and aunt Stella.) -- Mr. E. R. Davidson, General Superintendent of the Turner, Day and Woolsworth Handle Company, is here to see L. T. Welch, the local representative. - Mrs. C. R. Baugh, and Children of London, stopped for a few hours Monday, while on her way to Demming, New Mexico, where she will join her husband and make their future home. - Mrs. Hunter, who was Mrs. Adkins widow of the late Dr. S. W. Adkins, with her husband, spent a part of the week with Dr. and Mrs. M. L. Meyers. Mr. Hunter is a well-to-do farmer of Tennessee. - Prof. F. M. Marshbanks, who has been visiting the family of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Hamlin, for the past two weeks, returned to her home near Marshill, N. C. last Saturday. Mr. Marshbanks is a successful teacher and will more than likely make Kentucky his home. Says if he can find him a wife he will sure come. - We are glad to see Fred Krueger out again after a weeks illness. - Master Bill Johnson was very sick for several days this week. - Mrs. Kitty Smith is visiting her sister, Mrs. A. W. Soward at Barbourville. - Miss Alice McCall, of Maretburg, has been the guest of Miss Montye Martin for a few days. - Miss Mary Jones, of Wildie and her visitor, Miss Penn, of Illinois were in town shopping Monday. - Mrs. L. T. Welch received a letter yesterday that the operation on her son, Larry, could likely be avoided. - Misses Georgia and Rose McFerron spent a few days with their sister, Mrs. Edd Cox, first of the week. - Miss Bessie Miller has about recovered from small pox. There are no new cases and absolutely no danger of further spread. BEE LICK NEWS Rain is all you can hear from the farmer now. - Russell Scott is on the sick list. - Misses Mamie and Minnie Chappell and Sarah Wren, of Lincoln County, visited their teacher, Mr. W. L. Scott Saturday and Sunday. - W. E. Taylor has grip. - Ottie Delaney and wife will leave for Indiana soon. - Chas. Lewis and wife, of Garrard County, spent the holidays with his brother, James Lewis. - Morris Taylor calls very frequently at James Cummins'. He is either a candidate for matrimony or a dear lover of chicken. You know we can't always sometimes tell. - James Lewis visited his mother, Martha Coleman, at Cincinnati last week. - M. E. Owens and James Albright are taking a blacksmithing course from our able smith, John Stringer. - W. L. Scott closed a very successful term of school in Lincoln County on Dec. 31st. His school was among the largest in the county, having a census of 98 pupils of which 93 were enrolled during the term. - Luther Owens contemplates building a dwelling in the near future. - William Scott thinks he is the leading farmer in the section because he began plowing Monday and was the first to utter "gee-haw" at the beginning of the new year. - Lewis Foster and wife, formerly Miss Alle Taylor left for Lancaster Monday where they will make their new home. The entire county wishes them success and happiness. - Miss Doris Reynolds and mother are very feeble at this writing. - It seems that the correspondents from Brodhead and Quail are about to lock horns over the R.F.D. By the way, Brodhead accuses Quail of not knowing anything about R.F.D. because he never lived on one. It seems as though the same cat gave Brodhead a scratch. - Rev. Todd failed to fill his regular appointment at Bethel Sunday. - J. M. Reynolds continues selling merchandise, he says, at cost. - Jackson Scott is making an addition to his dwelling. - James Harness got his face badly burned during the holidays by experimenting with powder. - Elbert Abbott has moved from the D. B. Southard residence to his home near Buck Creek. Mr. Abbott taught school in this section. WILDIE NEWS Miss Stella Bonar has returned home after several days visit with friends of this place. - Miss Minnie Hiatt visited relatives and friends here last week. - Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Towery were down from Berea Sunday. - Mr. Allen Fish who is here from Texas visiting relatives is very sick of pneumonia fever. - Maurice Phillips who has been very sick of pneumonia, we are glad to say, is better at this issue. - Mr. John Fish and brother Jones were over from Buckeye Sunday. - Mrs. Allen Hiatt and son, Albert, were over from Hiatt one day this week. - Mr. Bert Hayes, who has been gone from here several years, spent Xmas with relatives of this place. - Misses Julia and Addie Elliot have returned home after a pleasant visit with relatives and friends at this place. - Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Branaman visited his sister, Mrs. John Crawford of Brodhead last week. - Several from Buckeye and Hiatt attended the party at Mr. Jesse Proctor's last Friday night. - Conn Towery who has been working at Danville spent Xmas at this place. - Rsmer Towery has returned home after a years visit with his uncle in Texas. He says he expects to make his home there. LIVINGSTON NEWS Messrs. Egbert Hayes and Geo. Griffin were in Jellico, Tenn. this week. - Rumor says there will be two passenger trains turn here. - Rev. W. C. Campbell filled his regular appointment here Saturday and Sunday. - Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Foley have gone to housekeeping in one of Bowman and Cockerell's houses. - Malen Summers sold his house and lot on Gauley Branch to James Hall. - Wm. Nichols, who was shot at Corbin last Saturday night, is getting along nicely at this writing. - Mrs. Celia Owens and sister were here between trains Saturday to visit the grave of her husband Mr. Steve Owens. - Mr. Abe Pennington has moved out of the Eight Gable hotel into his own property known as the old drug store. - Mrs. G. D. Cook is visiting her mother near Mt Vernon. - J. T. Chewning has moved into the Eight Gable. We wish him much success. - W. W. Wright will move into Mrs. Sue Mullins' property on Main Street. - Mrs. Rowsy and Miss Essie Pike are visiting in Maretburg. - Miss Angie Poynter is better at this time. - George Mounce, of Middlesboro, brought his baby to his mother, Mrs. Allen Mounce, for her to take care of during his wife's illness. - Mrs. T. D. Mullins and children are visiting relatives and friends at this place. - Bob Childress and little Mattie Chestnut visited in Conway last week. Bob will leave for Oklahoma in a few days. - Omer and Lloyd Chestnut visited their aunt at Pine Hill last week. - Mrs. Moss Mullins is visiting her brother, Mr. George Mounce at Middlesboro. - George Mullins has gone to Texas. - Sam Ward, of Cincinnati is visiting his parents, of this place. - R. A. Whitehead has bought the stock of goods of Dock Oliver and will move in the Calloway store. - Mrs. Ada Fishback has returned from a visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. B.
