Brooks has returned to her home in Knoxville after spending three weeks with her mother Mrs. M. E. Wilmott. - Misses Lyda and John Eva Hilton were visiting Mrs. L. B. Hilton at Stanford first of the week. - Rev. A. J. Pike is holding a protracted meeting at Popular Grove in Pulaski county. - Ceph Leece of Lebanon Junction is at home for a few days. - Egbert Wallen, of Oakdale, Tenn., spent a few days of last week with homefolks. - Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hutcheson are the guests of Mrs. M. B. Salin at Mt Vernon. - Homer Wallen of Somerset was here to see one our best looking girls Wednesday. - Dr. Percy Benton was in Stanford a while Wednesday. - W. H. Benton came up from Lebanon Junction Tuesday to vote. - J. R. Cass has returned from Louisville where he has been attending the bedside of his mother. - The party at Frith Hotel Wednesday night was largely attended and well enjoyed by all present. Covers were laid for 44. - John Benton has returned from a weeks stay in Louisville. - Dr. O. O. Stone was in Crab orchard Tuesday and Wednesday. - The young members of the Christian church are preparing to have a big entertainment in the Opera House Thanksgiving night. - W. T. Brooks came up from Shepherdsville Tuesday to vote. ORLANDO NEWS The election passed off very quietly at this place Tuesday. - The infant of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Reams is quite sick at present. - Mrs. Fidel Robinson who has been visiting relatives in Whitley, Bell and Laurel counties returned home Sunday. - Mrs. Flury Laswell is spending a few days at Pine Hill at the bedside of her grandson, Wallace Mullins, who remains very low. - Leslie Clifford and family left Saturday for Illinois. - It was John Boles child that was burned to death instead of John Bales as reported in last week's paper. - Mrs. Jerry Laswell and little son, George, are very sick at this time. - Quite a large crowd of Masons from this place attended the burial of Mr. Willis Griffin at Mt Vernon Thursday of last week. - Mrs. Mary Chasteen, of Wildie, was visiting relatives here last week. - We saw some typhoid victims were out to the election Tuesday, though looking rather frail, we suppose they felt stronger after voting their sentiments. - Mrs. Jane Laswell, who has been real sick for several days, is improving slowly. - Mrs. Nancy McHargue, of Pine Hill is on the sick list. - Dr. Robinson, of Berea, was called in consultation with Dr. Laswell Sunday to see Wallace Mullins, of Pine Hill. - Misses Woodia Wolf and Roxie Evans, of Hummel, were guests of Mrs. Rhoda Evans last week. (Misses Wolf and Evans were half-sisters of my father Clayton H. Evans. Mrs. Rhoda Evans was his aunt.) - Mrs. Albert Chandler who has been sick for several days is convalescent. PERSONAL NEWS Atty. J. W. Brown was in Louisville yesterday. - Dr. D. B. Southard reports Steve Hansel very sick with fever. - E. B. Brown thinks he will move to Lebanon Junction in the near future. - Rev. Brisco and family will leave about December 1st for their new home in Nelson county. - Little Julia Landrum has been very sick for the past week with pneumonia. - Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Houk, of Jamestown, Ind., are with relatives here this week. - Will Casper, district deputy, is here again this week in the interest of the W. M. of A. - Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Oliver spent Sunday until Monday the guests of the family of A. H. Hamlin. - Henley Bastin and Ben Cormney began Wednesday on the construction of new telephone lines here, which will be of copper. - Arthur Thompson, who married Miss Judith Owens, has moved here and occupies one of F. Krueger's houses on Main Street. - Miss Bessie Mullins left yesterday for Pagosa Springs, Colo. She was accompanied as far as St Louis by her father, R. B. Mullins. - Dr. Carter, of North Carolina, has located here. His office will be in the old brick and will occupy the W. B. Smith property now occupied by W. T. Smith. - Ab Sparks has rented the Dr. Myers property on Main street and will move to town in a short time to install the big crusher for his brother W. J. Sparks and S. W. Davis. - We overlooked the two personals in our last issue of Capt. M. F. Smith, who spent a couple days in Louisville and Dr. J. F. Baugh, who was called to Tennessee as a witness in an important damage suit. - F. L. Durham, who was sheriff of the election at Brodhead came up yesterday with J. W. Tate who was judge, to bring the ballot box. Fred, as we call him, is the splendid and efficient correspondent for the Signal at Brodhead. In him, we can claim the biggest and one of the best correspondents of any local paper in the State. Fred is only 22 years old and tips the beam at about 375 pounds. OTTAWA NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hamm, of near Sayers, visited Mr. and Mrs. John Sowder here Sunday. - Tart Proctor and family visited J. B. Sutton and wife Saturday night. - Quite a number attended the singing at Providence from here Sunday. - Mrs. J. W. Brown and children visited Charlie Sowder and family Sunday. - Misses Maude and Dora Elder of Pulaski county were the pleasant visitors of Misses Iva and Myrtle Brown Sunday. There will be preaching at Providence next Sunday at 11:00 a.m. - Mr Webster Webb, a citizen of this place and Miss Mary Wallen daughter of Mr. Robert Wallen of this place were united in the holy bonds of matrimony a few days since. - J. W. Cash, of Wabd, visited relatives here Saturday. - Laswell and son have their mill up and in running order again. - Miss Roberta Brown, of Quail, visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Brown of this vicinity last of last week. - Larkin Hicks and family moved to the Quail vicinity a few days since much to the regret of several of us, but our loss is Quail's gain. - J, E, Sutton visited relatives at Preachersville Sunday. - The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Wallen passed into the great beyond Wednesday after an illness of only a few days. The remains were laid to rest in the family burying ground Thursday. - The eight-year-old child of Robert Wallen which had pneumomia fever is convalescent at this issue. - The death angel visited the home of J. J. Brown and took for its victim their infant child The parents and relatives have the heart felt sympathy of us all. LOCAL NEWS DEATH: The death of Mr. Harvey Chenault, Sr., occurred last Wednesday evening at the home of his brother, Mr. David Chenault, after a long illness of stomach trouble. His death was not unexpected yet, like every invasion of the Grim Reaper, a shock to his family and friends and the community at large. Deceased was about 60 years old and unmarried. He was widely connected in this county and adjoining counties and was universally liked for his generous and congenial disposition. He is survived by one bother, Mr. David Chenault, from whose home the funeral was conducted on Friday morning after which his interment took place in the Richmond cemetery. - RERSOLUTIONS: Whereas, It has pleased the Great Creator of the universe to call Brother Willis Griffin from labor on earth to rest and immortality in the Grand Lodge above, where the Supreme Grand Architect resides. Brother Willis Griffin was born Sept 11Thrusday 1832 near Mt Vernon. He lived here all his life. Was made an Entered Apprentice Mason in September 1865, A Fellowcraft, October 1865, A master Mason in November 1865, Ashland Lodge No. 370, was made Master of this Lodge in 1879. Was an active member in the re-organization of the Ashland Lodge No. 640 and was it first Senior Warden and was several times Master of the Lodge.
