RIDING OF FREIGHT TRAINS The riding of freight trains between this point and Rowland has been of no little worry to the railroad company and employees. But since the railroad has exerted almost every effort possible, it begins to look like the stopping point will only come when the last saloon in Rowland has done its do. There is entirely too much of this and at times has been practiced by some who would be least expected. BRODHEAD NEWS J. W. Casper was over from Mt. Vernon Sunday calling on one of our best looking girls. - A. C. McClary left Monday night for Troy, Ky., where he assumes the cashiership of the Bank of Troy. Knowing Cecil as I do, I feel like that some day he will be one of our grand old Commonwealth's greatest financiers. -- Miss Jewel Francisco will leave Tuesday for Paris where she will remain the guest of her sister Mrs. W. E. Sprowls for two months. -- B. R. Wilmott was here three days of this week mingling with old friends. -- Misses Reca Baker and Anna Tate and McKenzie Brown were down from, Mt Vernon Tuesday night to "Scoot". -- Mrs. Sylvan Bordes, of Monticello, is visiting her parents on Copper Creek. -- The wedding spoke of sometime ago has come and gone. Last Wednesday night Mr. Bert Owens and Mary E. Roberts took the train to Mt Vernon where they were quietly married and returned on train No. 24. Best wishes for you and yours Mr. Owens. -- W. A. Fisher, Chas McKenzie and Sherley Tate were down from Mt. Vernon Monday night. - Ed Featherb, R. R. Supervisor, of Lebanon, was here to see Section Foreman Hurt Thursday. - Mrs. John Robins is numbered with our sick this week. - Miss Eliza Pike is getting along fine with her music class. She has about twenty students. - The younger set was entertained by Mrs. Ermie Tharp last Tuesday night with a "candy pulling". - Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Smith royally entertained a few of their friends last Saturday night in honor of A, C, McClary - The fair. Bear these dates in mind. August 14, 15, and 16th. - Miss Mattie Owns is visiting her sister, Mrs. Frank Sutton in Louisville. - J. Thos. Cherry and wife and C. H. Frith are in Louisville this week attending the races. - W. A. Tyree, or boss carpenter, is a home from Dunmar for a few days. - John Perhins has returned to Junction City after spending a few days with his grandfather, R. S. Martin. - G. S. Durham was in Danville for a few days this week. - Misses Wallen and Davis have returned to their homes after spending two pleasant weeks here as the guests of Mrs. J. E. Wallen. - Miss Annie Cass is visiting her sister, Mrs. L. B. Hilton at Pine Hill. -- O. D. Shuggars, of Tampa, Fla., was here Wednesday to see his brother. W. K. Shuggars. - H. H. Hutcheson is in Somerset this week on business. - J. L. Robins has moved into one of John Cherry's houses on Silver Street. - We are glad to say that Dr. Percy Benton is rapidly improving at Crab Orchard Springs. - Woodyard Owens leaves tomorrow for Keavy, and will remain the guest of Miss Lizzie Storms for a few days. - Skating every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4 pm until midnight. Everybody invited. Bring your skates and come. - J. W. Hutcheson has returned home from Cincinnati. ORLANDO NEWS The farmers of this section are behind with their work on account of the recent rains. - Mrs. Fidell Robinson is numbered among the sick this week. - Mrs. Lizzie Hall who has been very sick is somewhat improved. - Mr. and Mrs. Marion Chasteen of Wildie were visiting homefolks Saturday and Sunday. -- Mrs. Elmer Williams is visiting relatives at Roundstone and Conway this week. - Mr. Stephen Mullins, son of Mrs. Mary Mullins, was killed last week near Pineville by a train. His remains were shipped here Sunday for burial. - There will be preaching Sunday at Maple Grove by Rev. Koker. - Dr. D. B. Southard was called Sunday to see Mrs. Stephen Anglin of Crooked Creek in consultation with Dr. Laswell. They report her being in a very serious condition. - Mrs. Flurry Laswell is visiting her daughter Mrs. B. G. Mullins of Pine Hill this week. - Mrs. Lewis Owens of Dry Fork is very sick with dropsy and is not expected to live. -- Mrs. W. D. Laswell and children were visiting Mrs. Cellia Chestnut Sunday. - George and Abe Evans who are at work at the Copper Redge, Tenn. spent Friday and Saturday with homefolks. - Cassie and Lenna, the sweet little daughters of Dr. Henry hundley, were visiting relatives in Brush Creek last week. -- Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Wood were visiting at Conway Sunday. - Rev. R. E. Bell preached at Maple Grove church last Sunday. - The infant of E. J. Anderson who has been sick for some weeks is not much better. - Mr. George Proctor, who has been sick for some time, is rapidly growing worse. - Mrs. Hattie Mason will go to Corbin Thursday to visit her daughter, Mrs. Flora Bales. - Mrs. Nora Abney is on the sick list. LEVEL GREEN NEWS Corn planting and gardening is the order of the day; farmers believe spring will open after awhile even if it is quite late. - Miss Maggie Hamlin of Mt Vernon, is visiting friends after an absence of a few months. We gladly welcome her. - T. J. Brown of Somerset has gone to McAlester, I.T. on a visit to his sisters, Mesdames O. A. French and D. R. Gentry, and his brother S. T. Brown. His mother who has been there since December will return home with him. - B. F. Sutton has moved his family here from Elrod. - C. D. Sutton and U. G. Baker, were the guests of Mr. Sutton and family on last Sunday. - Sunday school is progressing nicely at Mt. Pleasant under the superintendance of J.J. Debord. - Quite a congregation heard the sermon of Bro. Jas. Cummins on last Sunday. - Bro, Coker will preach the dedication sermon at Poplar Grove next Sunday. - It is announced that there will be Decoration Services at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on the 30th conducted by Rev. Cummins. His text "The Intermediate State," is very appropriate for the occasion. - There will also be services conducted at Friendship by Rev. Farley. You that have friends resting here don't forget to come. Everyone is cordially invited to help us make it an enjoyable day. - R. B. Sams of Livingston was visiting at J. P. Mullins last week. - Mrs. Katie Catron is on an extended visit to her daughter, Mrs. D. S. Woodward, of London. - Otto Brown of Pittsburg is with homefolks. - Mrs. Jane Mullins, who had gone to Louisville with a friend from Mt. Vernon, died in that city and was brought back for burial in Friendship Cemetery on the 27th of last month. She was formerly of McKensie in Lincoln Co., and while she had no relatives here, she had become attached to the newly acquired friends and had requested to be brought back here for burial. "Aunt Jane" as she was called, has paid the debt we will all have to pay sooner or later and now is in the hands of the loving redeemer. -- Walter Debord was calling on his best girl on Saturday last. - Miss Viola Bebord has returned home after a few days visit at London. - Mr. Hammock is reported to be growing gradually worse. - Misses Rebecca Pitman and Frances Todd remain about the same. - Mrs. Gahalia Shell is convalescent. - Mrs. Henry Carlton and daughter Nannie and little son Everett Brown of Bloss were the pleasant guests of Mrs. May Brown from Saturday until Sunday. - Mrs. Jas. Baker and daughter, of Pongo were the guests of Mrs. Baker's mother, Mrs. Elvira Thomas last week. QUAIL NEWS Mrs. G. W. Parsons is on the sick list. Jacob Elder and W.M. Owens are teaching a singing school at Maywood. - Wm. Watson and wife, of Nina, Garrard county visited his mother, Mrs. Martin Owens the past week. Mrs. Martin Owens is in very poor health. - Mrs. Robert Taylor who has been on the sick list is better. - Mrs. Wm. Owens is much improved. - Melvin Owens and Emmett Taylor left Sunday night for Farriston. - E. A. Herrin has his new dwelling almost completed. - D. E. Proctor is doing a good business with his store. - John Stringer, the blacksmith, is kept busy. - Farmers are getting along slow planting corn. - J. L. Davis preaches at Providence Saturday and Sunday. - Eld. Martin Owens is in poor health. - All the older people will soon be gone from this part of the country so the younger class should try to do as well as they have done. LIVINGSTON NEWS Mesdames W. W. Wright and W. H. Fisher are visiting friends at Corbin. - Miss Ella Argenbright has returned to her home at this place after an extended visit to her brother, John and family, at Lebanon Junction. - Misses Aggie Poynter and Ethel Hayes are on the sick list. - Mesdames Mahala Carson and Susie Hicks are convalescent at this time. - Mrs. Rome Adams is in Mt Vernon visiting her brother, R. B. Mullins, who is quite sick. - Mrs. Wm. Preston and mother have returned after a short visit at Louisville. - Mr. John Griffin, of Jellico, has been spending a few days with Messrs. Geo. G. Griffin and Egbert Hayes, of this place (Incidently fishing and courting) - Messrs. Ed Moodall, Chas. Rice, Sr., Chas. Rice Jr., Will Rice and Will Fisher and others are on a big fishing excursion up on the river. The latest report was they had caught five fish, four waterdogs and a pheasant. - Mr. and Mrs. George Mounce, of Middlesboro, are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Mounce, near town. - Henry Browning is up again after a severe relapse of pneumonia fever. - D. K. Argenbright has returned after a few weeks visit to his sons, Lou, at Knoxville, and Tom at Ettawah, Tenn. - Mrs. Charity Mullins, of Paris is spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Mounce. - Messrs. Geo. W. Griffin, Egbert Hayes and John Griffin, of Jellico went fishing Monday and in about 4 hours came home with 18 big "suckers" weighing at least 50 pounds, and you can see by the weight that they were not dry land suckers either. - Mr. J. C. Mullins, familiarly known at "Big John" and with a heart as big as his body, is having his home repaired and cleaned and general improvements made. - Miss Eva Hall, of Somerset, was the charming guest of Mrs. Nath McWhorter a few days last week. - There was a wreck at No. 5 tunnel Thursday morning. Particulars are not known except it was a double header and no one was seriously hurt. - Mrs. Pearl Daniels has returned after a short visit with her mother, Mrs. Cable, at Stanford. - George Pope has returned after a short visit to his daughter, Mrs. Merrimee, at Paris. - Will O'Dell was down from Mt Vernon Saturday and Sunday visiting his mother, Mrs. James Hall. - Clell Johnson is here this week in the interest of the new Livingston Coal Co., and visiting his brother, "John Thomas". - Mr. Champ Mullins will lead prayer meeting next Wednesday evening at the Christian church. - Mrs. G. M. Ballard is visiting Miss Lida Cook on her way to Covington where she will visit friends. PERSONAL NEWS Dr. M. L. Meyers was in Cincinnati yesterday. - Mrs. Susan Henderson has returned to Parksville. -- Mrs. J. W. Hutcheson was the guest of Mrs. M. B. Salin. - Mrs. G. S. Hiatt was in Louisville first of the week. - Morris Brown has been at home for a few days on the sick list. - Miss Beulah Wallen was visiting relatives and friends here this week. - Mrs. George Cook is visiting her parents, Judge and Mrs. J. B. Lair. - Mrs. J. T. proctor and son, George have been sick for several days. - Mrs. F. L. Thompson is spending this week with Mr. Thompson on the road. - F. L. Thompson Jr. spent part of the week with his sister, Mrs. Hughes at Stanford. - Conn Brown held down the keys at the L & N office during Agent Landrum's absence. - C. K. York and Magistrate Geo. Robinson of the Livingston section were here Tuesday - Agent and Mrs. Landrum spent Saturday until Tuesday with relatives at Pittsburg. - Atty. C. C. Williams left Tuesday for West Virginia to look after some legal matters. - Mrs. Rome Adams came Tuesday to be with her brother, R. B. Mullins who is very sick with fever. - Miss Beulah Smith, of Highland Normal College Williamsburg, was at home for a few days last week. - McKensie Brown was here Tuesday from Williamsburg and told us that Judge J. B. Fish is no better. - Little Miss Annie May Miller is suffering from a severe burn on the arm and face caused by boiling water. - Cashier W. L. Richards, R. B. Mullins and J. P. Graham are each reported better. They have been very sick men. - J. A. Bowman left Wednesday morning for Jackson county with a big drove of cattle which he will feed on the range. - Miss Elizabeth Smith has returned to school at Loretta after spending a few days with her father, Capt. M. F.
