The following first appeared in the Mount Vernon Signal on January 15, 1909. It was recently transcribed from microfilm of that issue of the Signal. With these submittals, I am sharing these gleanings with the Signal's present readers. PERSONAL NEWS D. G. Roch was here Wednesday for a few hours. - Morris Brown was down from Pittsburg Sunday. - John Colyer is reported very low with fever at Crab Orchard. - Dr. W. J. Edmiston was up from Crab Orchard Wednesday. - W. A. Fisher and John Meadows were in Louisville Saturday. - Mr. and Mrs. Roy Britton spent Friday and Saturday in Louisville. - Ramie Shepard has returned from a two weeks stay in Hamilton, Ohio. - Mrs. A. B. Sparks has her mother from Louisville as her guest. - Mr. Daniel C. Ponder was up from Livingston Wednesday on business. - Mr. Steve Teters, of Crab Orchard, is the new clerk at the Miller House. - Mrs. C. D. Sutton visited relatives in Garrard County last of the week. - We are glad to see Mr. H. H. Daily is able to out on the streets once more. - Miss Rissie Williams is the guest of Miss Fanny Redd at Crab Orchard. - Mrs. A. Maret, of Wildie who had an attack of LaGrippe, is reported much better. - Horace Benton has resigned his position in the Master of Trains office and is now at home. - Miss Eva Fish is teaching a winter school near Renfro Creek on the Richmond Pike. - Dr. and Mrs. R. W. Dyche have taken rooms with Mr. and Mrs. Britton on Main Street. - We understand that Mr. Henry Benton will move his family here from Livingston soon. - Miss Bettie Pennington, of Livingston, spent last week here as the guest of relatives. - Misses Cora Griffin and Linda Ballard will enter the State Normal at Richmond next Monday. - G. T. Johnson expects to move next week to his new residence erected just back of his store. - Jesse Agee, of Hamilton, Ohio, is visiting his uncles, Green and Chas. Riddell near Orlando. - Miss Nell McFerron, of Pine Hill, will leave for Richmond next week to enter State Normal. - Mrs. Henry McGee, of Livingston, spent several days with her sister, Mrs. A. B. Sparks, last week. - Walter Mullins will put groceries in the room where the Peoples Bank was formerly located. - We are glad to see Mrs. Ina Miller and family out again after being kept in for five weeks with small pox. - Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Hamilin are rejoicing over the arrival of a new born, a fine boy. Mother and babe are doing well. - Miss Annie Tate is on the sick list. Burdette McKenzie is assisting at the bank in her absence. - Elbert Hansel came down from Crab Orchard yesterday and reported that John Colyer slightly improved, but is still a very sick man. - R. L. Collier was over from Crab Orchard Monday. Mr. Collier says he expects to begin work on his new home at that place as soon as weather permits. LANGFORD NEWS Thomas Eagan and family will move to the Dr. Lewis Property known as the Prewitt farm in the near future. We regret to loose such a splendid family from our midst, but we trust that the change will be for their welfare. - Miss Myrtle Bryant closed her school at this place last Saturday and was a most successful term. (Miss Bryant was the Rockcastle County School Superintendent during most my school years.) -- Mrs. T. A. Coffey, who has been on the sick list for several days. We are glad to say is better. She has been confined to her bed since last August. - W. H. Baker is selling lots good and is doing a good business with his sawmill. - Little Margerie and Mamie Baker are reported very sick with the whooping cough. - The little babe of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Coffey is reported very sick, but is better at this time. - Our good citizen, George Taylor, who has been sick for many months continues about the same. - Elmer Coffey will soon have his new house completed. - Some little preparation has been made for the repair work to be done on the church house at Hummel. We hope to see the house fixed, as it should be. - Little Willie Kirby, of Mt Vernon, spent last week with her aunt, Mrs. W. H. Baker. - William Jordon has gone to Danville to make his future home. - Little Clyde Baker spent Sunday with relatives in Mt Vernon. - S. B. Ramsey and family, of Mt Vernon, spent several days with relatives near here. (Mr. Steve Ramsey (1868 - 1916) was a brother of my grandmother Ellen Ramsey Wolf Evans (1866 - 1957) He ran a butcher shop in Mt Vernon for a number of years.) - Jesse Proctor is erecting a new dwelling. -- Bob Turpin will be the Mill boss for the Kentucky Freestone Company next season. - Mr. and Mrs. Marvel Coffey are both very feeble. - The little girl of Mr. and Mrs. George Griffin stuck a needle in her foot about two weeks ago and so far has been unable to get it out, but fortunately is not causing the little one any pain. BRODHEAD NEWS Miss Ada Wesley has returned to her home at Liberty after spending three weeks here with her grandmother, Mrs. M. S. Durham. - C. C. Cable left today for Cuba after spending four weeks with his mother, Mrs. L. B. Cable. - Misses Katie and Annie Cass visited their sister, Mrs. L. B. Hilton at Stanford this week. - The Citizens Bank at this place declared their usual 8 percent dividend and placed a good amount in surplus. - John E. and Wm. T. Evans left Tuesday for a three-week business trip through North Eastern Kentucky. - Mrs. Arch Brown and children returned to their home in Corbin after spending two weeks here with relatives and friends. - Miss Elizabeth Storms, of Keavy, Ky. is the charming visitor of Mrs. Lou Storms. - M. B. Bowling spent a portion of last week in Richmond and Berea. - W. A. Tyree is now greatly domiciled as the proprietor of the Frith hotel and makes a No. 1 host. - We are glad to say that Mrs. Susie B. Cherry is able to be out again after two weeks illness. - N. Niles Carter, formerly of this place but now of Friendsville, Tenn., was here a few days this week to see his brother, Dr. W. F. Carter. Giles has resigned his place as Cashier of State Bank at Friendsville and will take charge of the Tellico Bank and Trust Company at Tellico Plains, Tenn., with a very large increase in salary. We are always glad to know of our boys doing better. - Rev. and Mrs. C. C. Wilson are preparing to leave our town and move to Lincoln County.
