PERSONAL NEWS Willis Johnson is very low with typhoid fever. -- Mrs. W. J. Sparks spent this week in the city. -- Mrs. Cleo Brown was in Louisville shopping Tuesday. -- M. L. Denham and E. B. Brown were with homefolks this week. -- Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Hughes came up from Stanford Sunday. -- Cossie Sutton is much pleased with his outlook at Level Green. -- Mrs. W. R. Brisco is spending the week with relatives in Louisville. -- Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Helton came up from Pine Hill Sunday to spend the day. -- C. A. Davis and John D. Miller are at home this week for a few days hunt. -- G. T. Johnson will take his brother Willis, to the Richmond Infirmary today. -- Miss Bessie Sparks arrived Saturday from Lexington for a weeks visit to her parents. -- G. T. Johnson was in Richmond Tuesday to get Masons to lay the blocks on his new store building. -- Albert Hiatt arrived Wednesday to pay a few days visit to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Hiatt. -- Mrs. H. L. Tharp and little daughter, Marguerite, spent Sunday until Monday with relatives here. -- William Rowe is proving himself a splendid salesman behind the counter, at U. G. Baker's mammoth store. -- Mrs. Willis Adams and daughter, Miss Elizabeth, went to Lexington Monday where the latter will enter school. -- Conn Brown has abandoned his trip to Alaska and is now telegraphing for the Southern Pacific railroad in California. -- J. Fish was in Knoxville this week buying goods, He expects to move into his new building by the first of the year. -- S. J. Conn and Burdette McKensie, connected with the Stearns Lumber Co., at Stearns, Ky., were with homefolks here this week. -- George W. Cope, of near Livingston, one of the counties oldest and most substantial citizens, was a pleasant caller at this office Monday. He is a survivor of the Civil War. -- On account of bad health Rev. E. Snodgrass has been compelled to give up his school t Brodhead, and has returned to his home in Lexington. We understand that he will go west. -- Egbert Wallin has resigned his position with W. J. Sparks and accepted a position as special agent for the Southern railroad at Somerset. He will leave in the near future to assume his duties. His family will probably go to Brodhead for the winter. -- A. W. Stewart and son T. A. Stewart, and W. H. Porter, Cashier of the Berea Banking Co., will leave next Tuesday for a three weeks' prospecting trip through the west. If Tom does not find some place in the west which he likes better than Jacksonville, Fla., at the end of three weeks he will go to the "Sunny South" to seek him fame and fortune in the practice of law. -- LOCAL NEWS Rev. J. T. Turpin will preach at Hummel Grove church the third Sunday at 11 o'clock a.m., also at night. -- The Baptist church is being papered and the seats re-varnished, a much needed improvement. A good coat of paint for both the Baptist and Christian churches would be very much in order. -- Judge Bethurum is evidently realizing that there is something in running for congress, even though he was defeated. Never before in his life, has he been besieged by as many callers and those who cannot come just write to tell him which post office they want. -- The bird law expired yesterday and every nimrod, who could possibly go, went early yesterday morning in search of the much coveted "Bob White". In this connection we might claim for Rockcastle some of the best marksmen to be found anywhere in the state. -- This office has just finished printing for James Maret, manager of the Rockcastle Telephone Co., a toll station directory in the form of an eight page folder, which gives every toll station of all the Independent Telephone systems in Central and South Eastern Kentucky. The book which is systematically and artistically arranged is the get-up of Mr. Maret and will be a source of great benefit to the general public. Westerfield and family are visiting relatives and friends in Stanford. -- Mesdames Lemon and Drummond returned Saturday from a few days stay with friends in Louisville. -- Mrs. A. N. Bentley returned to her home in Louisville after an extended visit here. She was accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Henry Magee, who will spend a few days in the city. -- Mrs. Ed Quinn and family returned to their home in Paris Monday after an extended visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hayes. -- Mrs. Mila Aldridge, of Knoxville, spent several days here with friends and relatives. -- Mrs. Charles Rice went to Cincinnati Tuesday night for a short visit to her sister, Mrs. Groff, who leaves soon for California. -- Mr. W. W. Wright is among the sick this week. -- Dr. W. J. Childress was in Mt Vernon Monday on business. -- Mrs. E. L. Cockrell was in Richmond Monday. -- Mr. Sam Webb visited his brother Dr. R. G. Webb, Saturday and Sunday. They spent Monday and Tuesday in Louisville. -- Miss Lizzie Lunceford, of Lexington, visited her sister, Mrs. Barnes, the first of the week. -- Hardin Mchaffy, of Birmingham, is spending several days with his family. -- Mrs. J. A. Oliver is reported among the sick this week. -- Mr. L. Oliver has moved his family from Lebanon Junction to this place. -- Mrs. John Clark spent several days last week in London having dental work done. -- J. R. Stuckey was in town between trains Monday. -- John Lear was calling on merchants Thursday. - - Miss Ella Stanley is spending several days with her sister, Mrs. Will Ward. -- Mrs. Essie Painter and daughter, Ruth, are visiting relatives at Brodhead. -- Mr. W. H. Lewis, who has a position at Lexington, spent Saturday and Sunday with homefolks. -- School was suspended here two days on account of no fuel. -- Mrs. R. A Sparks entertained with a dinner Tuesday in honor of her mother, Mrs. A. N. Bentley. Invitations were extended to: Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ward, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Magee, Mrs. E. Fishback, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Wright and Miss Georgia McFerron. -- Dr. C. R. Sowder, wife and son, of Indianapolis, were the pleasant guests of the doctor's grandmother, Mrs. Mahala Carson and also his aunt, Mrs. Sue Mullins and his uncle Mr. Mart Hicks. Dr. Sowder is a native of Rockcastle and his friends and relatives are pleased to see what a success he has made of his profession. They returned to their home Tuesday. Miss Lou Mullins accompanied them where she will enter a school for nurses. BRODHEAD NEWS Mr. and Mrs. M. Kidwell, of Lebanon Junction, and W. H. Kruger, of Mt Vernon was here Sunday were here Sunday calling on three of our best looking young ladies. -- Mrs. R. S. Carter has returned after spending three weeks with his parents in Owen county. -- Aunt Judy Chestnut has returned home after spending a week at Maretburg, the guest of her son Jopp McCall. -- Miss Lizzie Owens has returned home after spending three weeks at Keavy, Ky., the guest of Mrs. Lizzie Storms. -- Mr. and Mrs. Patton, of Cynthiana, are visiting Dr. and Mrs. Percy Benton for a few days. -- A. K. Haukla, of Junction City, is here working nights. PINE HILL NEWS Married: At the home of the bride last Tuesday Nov. 6th, at half past two o'clock, Mrs. Margaret Gant and Mr. Wm. Barger were united in the holy bonds of wedlock. Rev. Barnes pronounced the ceremony. Mrs. Barger is one of our best women, while Mr. Barger is a highly respected citizen of London. Here's joy to the happy couple. -- John Gray, of East Bernstadt was here Sunday and Monday. -- Rev.
