WEDDING: Mrs. Delores Fairchild announces the marriage of her daughter, Geraldine Mayo Fairchild to Preston Nunnelly of Lexington, Ky. On Saturday, December 13th at the Nicholasville Christian Church. The ceremony was read by Rev. W. J. Arvin. Miss Wathalyne Fairchild, sister of the bride and Robert Robinson were witnesses. The Nicholosville Christian Church is the church in which the grooms father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Nunnulley, were married. The bride is a popular member of the younger social set and a junior in the Mt Vernon high school where she is a member of the school band. Mr. Nunnelley is employed at the Signal Corps Depot at Avon. The couple will be at home for their many friends in Lexington after the first of the year. SHOWER FOR MRS. MINTER: Mrs. George Griffith, Miss Shirley Miller and Mrs. D. C. Craig were hostesses at a shower Wednesday evening December 10th at the home of the latter, honoring Mrs. Silas Minter, whose wedding has been announced. About forty friends were in attendance to shower Mrs. Minter with many lovely and useful gifts. The dining room table was decorated with a minature bride and groom for a centerpiece and white tapers. Miss Shirley Miller and Mrs. George Griffith poured coffee and served individual cakes. BRODHEAD BOOSTER NEWS: Editor: Miss Lillian Wallin The Brodhead Women’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Jack Garret Tuesday Dec. 9th with Mrs. N. M. Garret as co-hostess. There were three visitors from Mt Vernon, Mrs. E. R. Denny, Mrs. S. T. Proctor and Mrs. Fannie Thompson. The club has chosen as its years work and study, “Civilian Defense”. Work has already been started on a large number of woolen skirts to for the Red Cross. Beginning Tuesday afternoon and continuing each day until they are finished, the women of Brodhead are meeting at the school building to cut and sew these garments. Every woman in Brodhead who considers herself a Loyal American is invited to come, bring her scissors and help. BASKETBALL: Brodhead defeats Kingston 31 to 26. The Brodhead Tigers met the strong Kingston Trojans here Friday Dec. 12th and emerged victor by a score of 31 to 26. The boys played one of their best games this season in defeating this formerly undefeated team. Robbins looked more like himself than at any other time this season, a very encouraging fact. Hurt, as usual was the main cog in the Brodhead offensive attack. BRODHEAD PERSONAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Henry Riddle left Tuesday for Oklahoma where Mr. Riddle will work. – Mrs. C. W. Smith and Mrs. Virgil Martin were in Danville Monday Christmas shopping. – Mrs. Hope Cox, Miss Katie, Mrs. W. S. Cass and Virginia Owens were in Lexington Tuesday. – Mrs. Harold Newlan, Mrs. O. R. Cass and Mrs. R. C. Anderson were in Lexington Tuesday on business. – Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Albright and son, Jackie, and Roy Howard were in Louisville Wednesday. – Pvt. Charles Shivel, of Fort Knox, is at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Shivel, after being in the hospital three weeks with pneumonia. Mr. Ed Brooks was in Corbin Sunday to visit his sister Mrs. Henry Morgan and Mr. Morgan. – Pvt. Ed McClure, of Camp Shelby Mississippi is at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom McClure. – Mr. W. O. Yadon was in Louisville Monday on business. – Mr. H. A. Hall and son Byron Brooks were in Louisville Monday shopping. – C. A. Davis, of Pontiac, Michigan, was the guest of his sister Mrs. Walter Robbins and Mr. Robbins Sunday. – Mrs. Gobel Pike and daughter Anna Carol are in Corbin visiting her mother. – Mr. and Mrs. Creed Bussell were in London Tuesday. – Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Wallin have returned to their home here from Somerset. – Mr. Byron Baker, a student at Berea College, was the weekend guest of relatives. – Mr. David Hysinger who works in Dayton, Ohio is the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Hysinger, for a few days. – Mr. Henry Holcomb who has been in the CCC in Washington and Idaho returned home Saturday. – Mrs. C. H. Frith spent several days last week in Louisville with her daughters, Mrs. C. W. Stewart and family and Mrs. W. T. Brooks, Jr. at Anchorage. -- Mrs. Ben Bray, Mrs. D. H. Gray, Misses Lillian Wallin and Bessie Mae Howard were in Lexington Wednesday Christmas shopping. – Dr. and Mrs. W. E. McWilliams were in Mt Vernon Tuesday to attend the Masonic Banquet. – Mr. O. G. Cox is on the sick list. – Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sayers and Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Newland, of Covington, were here over the weekend with relatives. – Mrs. Albert Martin and son Brownie spent Tuesday in Mt Vernon with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sim Brown. – Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hendrickson and Mrs. Emma Frith were in Lexington Saturday. – Miss Sally Riddle is on the sick list. – A son born to Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Harris on Friday. He was named Everett Leslie. – Mrs. W. H. Anderson, Mrs. R. C. Anderson, Miss Dorothy Shivel and Mrs. Harold Newlan spent Tuesday in Richmond Christmas shopping. – Mr. Jimmy Brummitt returned home from Hines Hospital in Chicago after being there three weeks. – There will be special services at the evening services at the Baptist Church. NEGRO CREEK PERSONAL NEWS By Mrs. Rose Chandler Mrs. R. H. Atkinson and daughter Madge were up from Louisville Saturday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Chandler. – Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Atkinson were here over Sunday with relatives. Yolanda Nell returned to Norwood, Ohio with them after a two weeks stay with her cousins, Jessie, Teddy and Mary Louise Chandler. – Benny Atkinson, of Fort Knox, stayed over night Tuesday with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Chandler. He had just returned from maneuvers in La. And N. C. and expects to be transferred to some where in California soon. – Mrs. Ollie Stevens is in a hospital in Lexington and we under stand that she underwent an operation for appendicitis Friday. – Mary Elizabeth Chandler was in Berea Tuesday consulting an eye specialist. – Brown Proffitt, of Lockland, Ohio, was with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Proffitt over the weekend. – The school children of this place are preparing for their Christmas program which will be given on Tuesday preceding Christmas day.
