BRODHEAD NEWS Miss Montye Martin has returned to her home at Mt Vernon after spending a week with her cousin, Miss Gertrude Martin. - Miss Francis Forbes has returned to her home at Level Green after spending two weeks here as the guest of her many friends. - Gentry Bros. of Mt Vernon is painting C. H. Frith's big store. This will be one of the greatest improvements in our town during the summer. - Born to the wife of Tilden Frith a ten pound girl christened Virge Hope. - E. E. Snyder Supt. was in town Sunday night. - Miss Sallie Evans has returned from a two weeks visit to relatives at Berea. - R. G. Wilmott was in Louisville and Lebanon Junction first of the week. - H. B. McClary has returned from a two week stay in Pine knot, Dunmor and Louisville. - A. M. Hiatt is in Louisville taking in Fountain Ferry and White City. - Miss Cora Griffin of Mt Vernon was the charming visitor of Miss Elizabeth Pike and Maude Watson. - N. Giles Carter of Gratz was here to see Cashier Hutcheson of Citizens Bank Monday. - Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Salin of Mt Vernon spent Sunday in our city. - When in town be sure to see C. H. Frith's cold storage erected by Bowers & Son. - Dr. Benton and family have returned home from Crab Orchard Springs. We are glad to say the Dr. is much improved in health. - George McFrith is visiting his aunt Mrs. Monie Dunn at Danville. - Miss Katie Cass is visiting at Habersham and Knoxville, Tenn. - C. E. Gravely of Rocky Mount, Va. is the guest of his uncle Dr. W. E. Gravely for a few days. - Miss Elizabeth Cable is at Mt Vernon taking the teachers examination. - The Fair you should not forget. It is going to be the biggest one yet. Dates: Aug. 14, 15 and 16th. - Mrs. J. P. Hutcheson has returned to her home at Owenton, Ky. after spending a week here as the guest of her son J. W. Hutcheson. - Woodyard Owens has returned home after spending two weeks in Cincinnati, Ohio, Covington, Newport and Ludlow, Ky. - Miss Alma McAfee who has been the charming visitor of her sister, Mrs. J. W. Hutcheson. has returned to her home at Harrodsburg. - Miss Uta Hutcheson left Sunday for Rocky Mount, Va. to attend the Hutcheson-Parker nuptials, which was to be solemnized last Wednesday morning at the home of the bride. Mr. Hutcheson is well known here and is at present Cashier of the Kisdee Trust & Fidelity Banking Co. at Jacksonville, Fla. Miss Parker was a very charming sister of Mrs. W. E. Gravely at this place and is well known here on account of the many visits here to her sister. Here's to them wishing them a very successful married career. - W. A. Tyree is at home for a few days from Dunmor. LIVINGSTON NEWS Hon. S. G. Muncey, Government Meat Inspector, of Kansas City, Mo., stopped off here a couple of days last week calling on his old friend Dr. Webb. - J. A. Bullock, our hustling barber, has returned from Barbourville where was called last week to answer 16 indictments. He succeeded in beating them all. - Messrs. J. W. Baker and Dr. Webb are in Louisville this week attending the Republican State Convention. - Mrs. John Shearer and family of Paris are spending the week with Mrs. Shearer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. McGuire. - Mrs. Ed Quinn, of Paris, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hayes. - Dr. and Mrs. Childress spent several days in Louisville last week. - Miss Anna Belle Dishon, of Lancaster, is visiting her sister, Mrs. R. A. Whitehead. - Miss Cora Adams returned home Monday from an extended visit to Miss Bessie Mullins at Mt Vernon. - Misses Mattie Baker, Rilla Hiatt and Jennie Davis, of Mt Vernon, were visiting the Misses Pennington at Eight Gables last week. - Miss Mayme Jones stopped off on her way from Conway and spent the night with Miss Emma Pennington. - Miss Fannie Langford, of Hiatt, is the charming guest of her aunt, Mrs. James Anderson. - Mrs. Ed Woodall is visiting her mother at Level Green. - Miss Lizzie Fishback returned from Lexington last week, where she attended school at State College. - Miss Lillie Woodall, of Hazel Patch, spent several days with relatives here last week. Mrs. David Griffin returned to her home at Jellico after an extended visit with relatives here. - Mrs. Bowman, mother of Mr. Harry Bowman, will spend the summer here. - Miss Nora Burton is spending this week with relatives in the country. - Miss Nettie Rice returned Tuesday from a pleasant visit to her brother, Walter Rice at Lebanon. - Mr. and Mrs. Drummond left Sunday morning for the East to spend a month. They will also spend some time at Jamestown before returning. - Mr. and Mrs. Preston are visiting friends and relatives in Louisville this week. - Mr. and Mrs. W. G. McGuire of Illinois, are spending a short time at Mr. McGuire's son, James McGuire. - Willie McGuire of Lebanon Junction, spent part of last week with homefolks. - Chas. G. Givens is spending this week in Knoxville and Maryville. - The S. S. convention was well attended and was a success. The county officers were elected for the year and some very interesting addresses were made by the S. S. workers. - Mrs. Will Ward and family of Hyattsville, arrived Wednesday to spend several days with relatives here. - Roy Adams was seriously hurt by a handcar which wrecked in No. 6 tunnel. - It is hoped that the injury was not serious. - R. A. Sparks is in Nashville this week. -- Frank Longmire spent a few days at Coal Creek last week. - Ben Brummitt is suffering from a severe attack of inflammatory rheumatism. CONWAY NEWS Mr. Chamber Oldham was in Richmond and Mt Vernon last of week. - The Roundstone Land Cos. great clearance sale will begin the 20th and 22nd. - Frank Todd of Richmond is enjoying the great Conway water this week. - Mrs. Florence Willis, daughter of U. S. Berry, who has been visiting in Illinois for the past six months, returned home Monday. - Bees are out of luck this season. Out of about 75 hives in this neighborhood only one swarm has come out. No honey. - Both public and farm hands are scarce in this section, even at good prices. - Misses Margarite Rouse, of Cincinnati and Sadie Evans, of Brodhead, were the charming guests of Miss Nettie Oldham last week. They drove from this place to Berea and Miss Evans came back on the next train saying she was so in love with the place (or some of the people) she could not stay away. - Mr. Joe P. Chenault arrived just in time to say farewell to her, but says he expects to visit Brodhead in the sweet by and by. - Mr. H. Chenault, who has been quite ill for sometime, has gone to Richmond. All his friends hope he will be greatly improved when he returns. - Miss Mayme Jones, of Mt Vernon was the guest of her sister, Mrs. J. J. Wood, this week. - Judge Chenault was a business caller here this week. QUAIL NEWS Mrs. Martin Owens is no better. - A. E. Herrin continues very sick. - Dr. D. E. Proctor is in Louisville looking out for a location to move to soon. We regret to give him up. A doctor is a useful man in the neighborhood. - W. A. Owens and Jacob Elder closed out a singing school at Maywood last Sunday. - There will be a joint singing at Sayer's school-house next Sunday between the Maywood class and the local class. Everybody is invited. Bring a basket filled to the utter most. - A protracted meeting will begin at Providence July 15. PERSONAL NEWS Mrs. G. B. Lawrence is here from Hyden. - Wm. Adams has moved his family to Pine Hill. - Chas. Dent Smith, the insurance man, was here this week for a few days. - Mrs. Kitty Smith has gone to Casey county for a two weeks visit. - Miss Cora Adams spent several days with her cousin Miss Bessie Mullins. - Walter G. Smith, the poplar Cashier, was here for a few hours Sunday. - Mrs. W. G. Nicely of Berea visited relatives here and near here this week. - T. C. Powell and family visited friends at Livingston the first of the week. - Dr. Percy Benton was here Wednesday looking almost himself again. - Mrs. A. A. Franklin are with Dr. and Mrs. Pennington at Bertha for a few days. - Elza Langford, who went to Oklahoma several weeks ago, has returned to Rockcastle. - J. J. Cook came down from Blanche Bell county, to spend Sunday with his mother. - John A, Mullins was here Monday making arrangements to leave Tuesday for Oklahoma. - Miss Rissie Williams has returned from the College of Music at Cincinnati for the summer vacation. - Miss Cora Griffin returned yesterday from a visit to Brodhead. Miss Lizzie Cable accompanied her home. - Charlie Simpson moved his family yesterday to Middlesboro where they will make their future home. - Mr. and Mrs. J. Thomas Cherry spent a few hours here Sunday as the guests of Atty. and Mrs. J. W. Brown. - Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gentry, of Hamilton, Ohio, are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Gentry. - Ben Cormney was here from Lancaster Sunday. Ben's visits to MT Vernon are becoming very frequent. - LEVEL GREEN NEWS Mrs. Ed Woodall, of Livingston is the pleasant guest of her mother, Mrs. B. F. Sutton. - Mrs. Dora Beatty, of Corbin, is spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hatcher She has returned from a visit to her brother, Otto, who is in the hospital at Lebanon, and reports him very much improved. - Mrs. Otto Hatcher and babe, of Lebanon Junction, are visiting relatives here. - There was a reunion of Mrs. Daniel and her daughters on Sunday last at Mr. Gentry Evans' at Hansford. She and five daughters, her grand-children and one great grand child, more than twenty in number, all took dinner at Mr. Evans' and report a general good time. There were four generations at the reunion. - Mrs. Elvira Thomas has returned home after a weeks visit to her daughter, Mrs. James Baker, at Pongo. - Giles Shell is trying a case of the measles and is getting along nicely. - Mesdames Sutton and Woodall and Miss May Bowman were the guests of Mesdames Hatcher and Beaty on Wednesday last where a capital dinner was served as Mrs. Hatcher knows exactly how to prepare a tempting feast. - The ice cream supper at Mrs. Harrie McQuery's on last Saturday evening was a grand success and every one seemed to enjoy themselves and went home feeling refreshed. - The quarterly meeting at the M. E. Church on the 9th was largely attended. - Miss Vira Debord is the guest of her cousin Hiram Thompson, near Walnut Grove. - Teachers are preparing for the institute which comes early this year. - Misses Fannie and Bessie Debord were guests of Miss Lura Baker, at Plato, last Saturday. - T. J. Brown and Miss Emma Broiles, of Somerset, paid us a flying visit last Sunday. - Frank and Henry Catron, of Lincoln county were here buying sheep last week. - J. M. Cress, of Preachersville, was also stock buying. - Mrs. Rebacca Debord is improving in health, while Mr. Hammock and Mrs. Wm. Todd are no better. - The infant of W. F. Debord has been very sick. - Dr. T. J. Price and wife were visiting at Mr. Latham's Sunday. Corn and gardens are looking well considering the cool weather and frosts. - The wheat crop is almost ready for harvesting. LOCAL NEWS Born to the wife of J. F. Davidson Tuesday a fine baby girl. - Nest week will bring big crowds to town for both the Circuit Court and Institute week. - "Under the Laurels," a farce comedy by local talent, at Court house next Tuesday evening. - Mr. Pat Cook, a railroad conductor, and miss Dollie Elkins, of Livingston were married in the parlor of the Miller House Wednesday morning. Rev.
