BRODHEAD NEWS The fair for 1907 has come and gone and is only a pleasant memory of the past. For the crowds, it was a record breaker and under the guidance of Pres. R. H. Hamm, Vice-Pres. Granville Owens and Secretary John Robins, it was a success financially as well as every other way. - Jesse Lee, the six week old baby of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Albright, died Tuesday of last week. The remains were laid to rest in the Baptist cemetery Wednesday morning, after services at the grave conducted by the Rev. J. A. Sawyer. The bereaved parents have our sympathy. - Eugene Gentry has accepted a position as a clerk in Albright & Adams general store and will hereafter be found smiling behind their counters. - Both hotels were taxed to their full capacity during the fair. - Mt Vernon did herself proud with the large delegations furnished each day of the fair. - Miss Maranda McKensie was the guest of Mrs. D. B. Rambo from Friday until Sunday. - The misses McCall, of Hazel Patch were visitors of Miss Jewel Francisco during the fair. - Mrs. A. J. Pike and sons, Ben and Goebel are visiting in Livingston this week. - Prof. W. R. Dickenson and his most estimable family have moved to Livingston, where the Prof. has charge of the public school. - Misses Ada and Cora Wesley and Daisy Wilkerson, and Messrs. Rod Wesley and John Maynard, of Liberty, were among the visitors of Mrs. M. S. Durham at the Frith hotel during the fair. - W. H. Leece, of Monticello, spent a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Granville Leece on Copper Creek. - Ed Shay and Wm. Rice, of Corbin, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Rambo during the fair. Mrs. J. M. Clark has as her visitors Miss Bessie and Arthur Keisling, of Knoxville, Tenn. - Mrs. Monie Dunn and daughter, Miss Ella, and Miss Roberta O'Bannon, of Stanford, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Frith last week. - Judge and Mrs. W. R. Cress, of Monticello, were here during the fair mingling with many friends and acquaintances. - A. C. McClary cashier, of the Bank of Troy, was the guest of F. L. Durham during the fair. - Miss Lizzie Cable had as her guests during the fair, Misses Myrtle and Maude Thompson of Lebanon Junction and Miss Minnie Gentry of Spiro. - Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Thompson, of Paris, were here during the fair and stopped with Mrs. Laura B. Cable. Mrs. R. D. Thompson and two sons were also guests of Mrs. Cable during the fair. - Miss Vandiveer, of Stanford, and Miss Florence and Mr. and Mrs. Varney Tanner, of McKinney, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Shugars fair week. - John and Clearance Perkins, of Cincinnati, and Miss Montie Martin, of Mt Vernon, were visitors of Mrs. R. S. Martin during the fair. - Mrs. J. E. Wallen had as her guests during the fair, H. H. Wallen, of Somerset, Oscar and Walter Wallen, of Crab Orchard, Miss Buelah Wallen , of Cedar Creek, and Misses Beulah Smith and Bobbie Davis, of Mt Vernon - Miss Ermine Tharp is very sick we are sorry to say. - Miss Sallie Newland and Master Fred Parsons have returned to their home at Lebanon Junction after spending a week with Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Newland. - Dr. Walter Owens , of Pongo, and Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Graybeel, of Level Green, were among Mr. and Mrs. Granville Owens many visitor during fair week. - Rev. J. A. Sawyers, of London, was down to attend the funeral of Jesse Lee Albright. - J. E. Storms, of Keavy, visited Mrs. Lou Storms during the fair. - Miss Mae Magee, of Lancaster, and Miss Cora Adams, of Livingston, were here attending the fair on Thursday and Friday. - The Fellowcraft degree of Masonery was conferred on Dr. O. O. Stone Tuesday night by the lodge at this place. - Dr. Wm. F. Carter has located at this place for the practice of his profession. He needs no recommendation, as he was here for a few months last year and is widely known. - Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Hilton, of Rowland, and Mrs. Nannie and S. E. Albright, of Mt Vernon, were visitors of J. R. Cass during the fair. - Mr. and Mrs. Dug Brown, of Lebanon Junction, are the guests of Mrs. N. E. Testerman. - Miss Sallie Evans won the gold watch in the popularity contest by 9000 votes. The watch was given away by the Lyceum Comedy Co. - Mrs. R. H. Batson and son, Cecil, of Lancaster, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hilton, during the fair. - F. M. Ware, of McKinney, was a prominent visitor of Mr. and Mrs. J. Thos. Cherry during the fair. - Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mink and sister, of Moreland, and Miss Jennie Davis, of Mt Vernon, were guests of Miss Bettie Hicks during the world's fair. - Ed Owens, who holds a very lucrative position in Louisville, is at home for a few days with his parents. - Virgil Tharp and sister, of Riley, Ky., visited their cousin, Miss Elizabeth Tharp, during the fair and returned home Sunday. Crit Akers, operator at Hazel Patch, was here Friday for the fair. - Mrs. C. K. Crain and daughter, Miss Carrie, of Lexington, and Miss Philips, of Wildie, visited Mrs. J. W. Tate last week and took in the fair. - O. C. Wilmott, of Knoxville, Tenn., and R. O. Wilmott, of Nepton, visited their mother, Mrs. M. E. Wilmott, fair week. - Miss Elizabeth Adams, of Mt Vernon visited Miss Sadie Evans last week. - Mrs. Maude Nall of Louisville is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Tilden Frith. - W. T. and Jno E. Evans were both at home for the fair. - Mrs. Lisa Lusk of Pittsburg and C. H. Roberts of Cartersville visited Mrs. M. E. Willmott first of the week. - Miss Jalia Reynolds of Maretburg and Miss Myrtle Reynolds of Cincinnati visited Miss Maude Watson during the fair. - I believe it can be truthfully said that Bro. Pike had the largest number of visitors during the fair. Among them were: C. R. Pike of Knoxville, Tenn., Ben and Roscoe Pike of Louisville, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hicks and children of Louisville, Miss Emma Jones and sister of Hackey, Ky., D. H. Pike and wife of Paris, Ky. - Miss Eliza Pike is attending the campmeeting at Alliston. - Mrs. Sarah Barnes had as her guests during the fair Mrs. D. B. Southard and children of Mt Vernon. - Mrs. Laurie Howell has returned to her home in St Louis after spending 6 weeks here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Yaden. - W. H. Anderson, operator at Perth was a home last week. - Walter G. Smith and Miss Rissie Williams were among the many guests at the Albright Hotel during the fair. - Miss Willie Benton had as her guests during the fair: Miss Sparks of Mt Vernon, Miss Wright and Miss Fishback of Livingston, Miss Mudd of Louisville. - Among those from Lebanon here during the fair were: Thos. W. Evans, Jno. D. Miller, John Nevius, Dug Brown, Rube Thompson, and Jas. White. - Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hutcheson's house was a scene of much gayety; among their many visitors were: Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Salin of Mt Vernon, Miss Lucy McCawan of Lawrenceburg, Mrs. Lou Alsop and Miss. Alma NcAfee of Harrodsburg, F. D. Hutcheson of Owenton. Mrs. W. J. Sparks and daughter, Mattie, of Mt Vernon Jno. D. Pike and Edd Hurt are up from Lebanon Junction to spend a few days with homefolks. - Mr. and Mrs. Bird Roberts, of Chaska, Tenn., visited Mr. and Mrs. Bob Roberts here during the fair. - The "Hop Club" gave their first dance at the Frith Hotel last Monday night with great success. The music was furnished by Miss Cora Wesley, of Liberty, Ky., was enjoyed by the large crowd of visitors as well as those who tripped the light fantastic. The club's next dance will be next Friday evening the 23rd. - M. G. Bowling our barber, had to go home Tuesday sick. We hope for his early recovery and return. - J. G. Frith was in Lebanon on business Monday. - Thos. Francisco is going to open a livery, feed and sale stable here. - Miss Vandiveer, of Stanford, Mrs. J. H. Jarrett, of Brodhead and Mrs. Essie Painter, of Livingston, did some excellent work for the ladies' department at the fair. ROCKCASTLE COUNTY FAIR The three days of the Rockcastle Fair Association pulled off at Brodhead last week witnessed the largest crowd each day ever seen at the fair in the history of the association. There was no hitch in anyway to mar the pleasure of the large assembly until Friday afternoon when it began to rain and continued until after 4 o'clock rendering it necessary to call off a half dozen or more of the best rings scheduled for the last day. But even with this everyone went away feeling satisfied that they had "got their Money's worth" and proclaiming this the best fair ever held.
