PERSONAL NEWS Mr. James White was here yesterday. - Emmet Hansel is with homefolks this week. - Miss Bess Sparks is visiting in Richmond. - J. C. A. Adams is in London and Wilton this week. - Mrs. F. R. Asher is visiting relatives in Laurel County. - Miss Elizabeth has returned to school at Lexington. - Mr. and Mrs. Albert Albright visited the family of jailor O. V. Jarret. - Mrs. Cleo Brown has returned from Louisville with her fall line of millinery. - R. A. Welch and daughter, Margarite, spent several days last week in Louisville. - Cashier M. B. Salin was called to Owenton by telegram on account of the serious illness of his mother. - Mrs. Kate Linton and son, George, of Louisville, are the guests of the family of her brother, R. A. Welch. - Judge R. G. Williams spent Friday until Wednesday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. N> Williams. - Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Hiatt are back from the city, where Mrs. Hiatt bought her fall line of Millinery. - Mrs. J. W. Rider went to Princeton yesterday to take Misses Harvie and Bessie Rider, to place them in Miss. Taylor's school. - Dr. A. G. Lovell was in Pineville last week as an expert witness in the Charley Cooper case and Atty. Williams say he made a good one. - Joe Norton, serving two years sentence for the killing of James and Harlan Arnold, was released last Tuesday. His time would have been up in about a month. - A. H. Hamlin is at home from a several days business trip to Tennessee. He and his two daughters, Misses Maggie and Bessie, will leave Sunday night for Ashville. - Mr. Arch B. Furnish the efficient Ass't. Cashier, of the Bank of Mt Vernon, returned Wednesday from a short business trip to his old home in Gallatin County. - Harry Chasteen is now a citizen of Mt Vernon and we gladly welcome him and his family among us. He will occupy the Mrs. Stephens property on Richmond Street. - Mrs. D. N. Williams has returned from a two weeks visit to the family of her son, M. C. Williams, of Somerset. She speaks in glowing terms of that city and its many excellent people. - Miss Zula Lovell Jones, the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luke Jones, of Middlesboro, returned to her home last Sunday after a pleasant visit to relatives in Mt Vernon. - It is reported that Jarve Cook has been confined to his bed with an attack of malaria fever and he and his wife will arrive in a few days from Bell County to take a few weeks much needed rest. - Mr. H. J. Mullins and sons. Frank and Chris, and James Lawrence were in Frankfort Monday to see Will Mullins walk out of the pen a free man. Will has a good position with a mill company and will make the Capital city his home. - Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Joplin, of Somerset, have been visitors to the family of Atty. John W. Brown. Bob's many Rockcastle friends were glad to see him and meet his most excellent companion who is one of Pulaski Counties most attractive women. - James A. Landrum, agent for the L & N Railroad Company at Mt Vernon was here to see his brother, J. P. Landrum. "Jimmie" went to school with the writer at the old Laurel Seminary, and outside of being a first cousin, was a boyhood friend and chum whose hand it is a pleasure to shake. Pennington in this county will be gratified to learn that he has been selected as Company Physician for The Bill Hill Coal Company. He graduated from the Medical School in Louisville in June and passed the examination before the State Board of Health in July receiving the highest percentage of a class of one hundred. The position is a very desirable one and pays a lucrative salary. BRODHEAD NEWS Joe Carter, of Friendsville, Tenn., is spending a few days here as the guest of his brother, Dr. W. F. Carter. - Miss Cora Griffin has returned to her home at Buckeye after spending a week in our city as the guest of Misses Maude Watson and Elizabeth Pike. - Mr. and Mrs. John Robins and daughter, Miss Mildred, are visiting in Garrard County this week. - Among the ones to attend the Ranch show at Stanford from her were: Mr. and Mrs. J. Thos. Cherry, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Frith and son, Alfred, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Pike, Mrs. Granville Owens and son Byron, Mrs. William Potts, Mrs. J. W. Hutcheson, Miss Roberta Frith, Drs. Carter and Stone, Messrs. Everett Watson, Chas. Bowers, Elijah Cox (Elijah Cox 1842 - 1922 is the deceased G Grandfather of my wife Norma Crawford Evans), H. H. Reynolds, Maxey Hamm and Dick Albright. They report a good show and a big time. - C. H. Frith has returned to Lexington after spending a few days at home. - A. M. Hiatt is in Knoxville, Tenn. this week on business. - Mrs. Crutcher and Mrs. Barnett have returned to their homes in Shelby County after spending a few days in the country as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Barnett. - John and Conard Evans went to London to see the 101 Ranch show at that place. - Thos. W. Evans has accepted a position as brakeman between Corbin and Norton, Va. - The ballgame last Thursday between the local and the teachers resulted in a victory for the locals to the tune of 8 to 6. - Mrs. Mary Albright spent a portion of last week in Junction City with Mrs. Chas S. Lyons. - Miss Minnie Hiatt spent last week in Stanford with Dr. and Mrs. E. J. Brown. - Mrs. M. E. Wilmott is spending the week on Copper Creek with her brother Granville Leece. - Mrs. Wm. Potts has returned from the city with a full line of fall and winter millinery. - Woodyard Owens is at home from Lebanon Junction. He will stay here until business picks up on the R. R. when he will resume his duties as brakeman on this division. - WEDDINGS: Last week was one of weddings for Brodhead we had two in one week. On Wednesday morning, Miss Miranda McKenzie, of Mt Vernon, who was here attending the Institute, met her lover, Mt Vernon Cossie D. Sutton, of the same place and they skidooed to Louisville and were made one at 11 a. m. in that city. - MARTIN -- OWENS: Last Friday morning when 24 left our city at 4:15 a. m. it had aboard two of our most poplar young people Virgil S. Martin aged 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Martin and Miss Burdetta Owens aged 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Granville Owens. They went into Louisville and were met by R. S. Martin, father of the groom and Mrs. Sallie Purcell Hardin. They at once proceeded to Jeffersonville, Ind. where the license was procured and these young people were made one. Virgil is a fine boy, well liked by every one who knows him and we heartily congratulate him on winning such a sweet, lovable companion to help him on his journey through life. They will go to house keeping in the Martin House on College Street. May they live long and have their pathway always strewn with roses. WILDIE NEWS Sorghum making is the order of the day in this section. -- Mrs. Belle Northern who has been very low with typhoid is reported much worse. - Jack Wood, Cecil Mullins and Miss Belle Jones left Monday for Berea where they will enter school. - Several of the boys of this place attended to ballgame at Conway Sunday. - Mrs. Ella Franklin, and daughter, Miss Bert and Miss Mary Branaman visited relatives at Corbin last week. - Miss Ila Proctor was visiting her sister, Mrs. J. A. Wood at Orlando last week. - Alfred Lejer has a very sick boy with typhoid fever. - Mr. Wm. Hayes and son are closing out their stock of goods at this place. - Mr. Bill Jones has returned home after spending several days with his mother at Villa Grove, Illinois. She is very sick and her recovery is doubtful. - Mrs. Jas. Brooks, of Orlando, is spending a few days with her parents at Round Stone. - The Rev. Campbell has been holding a series of meetings at Buckeye Church.
