BRODHEAD LOCAL NEWS By Lillian Wallin Mr. and Mrs. Harold Tucker of Cincinnati, Miss Tula Kincer of Liberty and Mr. Ray Baker of New Albany, Ind. were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Kincer and Miss Amanda Kincer. – Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Kincer of Louisville were the guests of his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Kincer. – Mr. Clarence Riddle has returned home after a trip to Indiana. – Mr. and Mrs. Wes Miller and daughter, Betty Jane and Miss Ophelia Oakes of Lancaster were the guests of Mrs. Ida Meredith and Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Albright Sunday. – Mr. E. C. Watson was in Mt Vernon Monday. – Mr. and Mrs. David Gravely and children of Louisville came home for a few days. – Mr. and Mrs. Lester Cass and son Owen Ryland and her mother Mrs. E. S. Owens of Mt Vernon were in Jackson County Sunday as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charley Abney. – Mr. John Kincer who works in Cincinnati was at home over the weekend with his family. – Mr. and Mrs. Levi Doan of Reading, Ohio were here last weekend to visit her mother, Mrs. Charley McClure. Mr. Doan returned home Sunday while Mrs. Doan rermained for a visit. – Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Smith of Dayton.Ohio were the guests of relatives here over the weekend. – Mr. and Mrs. Grant Baker are here from Louisville. – Mrs. Amanda Owens and Mrs. Mollie Lee returned home Saturday after a visit with relative sin Kings Mountain. – Miss Becky Lou Laswell spent the weekend in Berea. – Mr. John Lunsford who has been in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington was able to be brought home Wednesday. – Mrs. Charles Machal and son Billy were in Berea Tuesday on business. – Mr. Cy Owens is seriously ill with pneumonia at the home of his sister, Mrs. K. J. McKiney. – Mrs. Flauil Hunt has returned to her home on Lockland, Ohio after a visit with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ben Bradley. – Mr. and Mrs. Estil Carter have moved from the McKinney property to Mr. Grant Baker’s home. – Mr. and Mrs. Marshall McKinney and daughter, Joyce of Louisville were the weekend guests of relatives here. – Mrs. Lily Osborne left Sunday for Louisville to see her sister Miss Mattie Robins. – Don’t forget Homemaker Club to meet at Mrs. V. S. Martin’s on Monday November 3rd. Be on time or you will be fined. The lesson will be on vitamin B. – Mr. and Mrs. Charley Smith were in Somerset Tuesday. – Miss Dorothy Morgan and Mr. R. T. Morgan of Highland are visiting their sister, Mrs. Melvin Cox and Mr. Cox. – BRODHEAD SCHOOL NEWS The seniors voted to take the responsibility of gathering and writing the news for the Signal. They elected officers for each division. They were Sports: Johnny Allen; Band: Lolly Elder; 4-H Club: Byron Robbins; Special Attractions: Ruthetta Riddle; General School News: Ruby Gentry; Jokes: Harold Roberts; Class News: Lee Gentry; The seniors elected Eddie Hurt as collector of the news. The Seniors have selected their invitations from Mr. Mullins. They received their class rings early in the year and each is very proud of their rings. The Senior Class Carnival Queen is being well supported. By: Senior Class Reporter: Lee Gentry GENERAL SCHOOL NEWS The boys and girls of the pep club have selected their CheerLeaders. Willene Yadon and Alice Price were held over because of their excellent service during the past year. Corrine Bussell and Blondell Harp were selected to help them. Elizabeth Delaney and Wanda Masters were selected as substitutes. It is the ambition of our school to have the best cheerleaders in the district. It seems that we have great promise with the four that we have chosen. Our library has been enlarged with the addition of several new books in both the high school and the grades. – Last week many of the boys were absent from school because they attended the FoxHunt. – Johnny Allen spent Friday in Louisville. – Josephine Morning who has been in Ohio, returned home and entered school Monday. – Mr. D. A. Robbins was in Frankfort Thursday on business. – Becky Lou Laswell spent the week in Berea with her brother, T. J. Laswell. – Mrs. D. A. Robbins, Edward Leslie Elder and Byron Robbins were called to Stone Friday because of the illness of Miss Meda Barton. – Ruby Sturgeon, Lucille Derman, Raymond Leaford and Baily King visited Don Noland Sunday night. Don has been in the hospital, but has now returned to his home. – Would you take something for nothing is someone offered it to you” Then vote yes for constitutional Amendment No. 1. Everyone in Rockcastle County is urged to do his or her part in securing the passage of this amendment. – We are all wondering who will be the Queen of the Carnival Friday night. By Ruby Gentry. HIATT NEWS By Miss Bonnie Berry Miss Zella Mae Cromer of Cincinnati was home over the weekend to see her brothers who were home from the Army. Russell Cromer, Camp Shelby, Miss.; Vernon Cromer, Fort Custer, Mich. Russell and Vernon have returned to their respective locations. – Miss Essie Ball, daughter of Corda Ball of Corbin, Ky. passed away at her home in Corbin Oct. 15, 1941. Her Brodhead friends will hate to hear of her death. She leaves her mother, two half brothers Elbert Sears and Hamp Ball; one brother Floyd Ball, Jr. to mourn her passing. Essie was always smiling A friend wrote this. – Miss Villa Fay Cromer of Brodhead spent Sunday night with Bonnie Berry and attended the baptizing at Renfro Creek Sunday afternoon. – Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Ballard and children were in Mt Vernon Saturday. – Mrs. Lucy Doan of Brodhead was in Mt Vernon Saturday. – S. R. Cromer was in Mt Vernon on business Saturday. QUAIL NEWS BY Mrs. R. B. Albright Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Logsdon and Mrs. Gillis Brown spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Burdette Brown of Woodstock. – Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ponder and Miss Ada Ponder spent Saturday night and Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Albright and family. – Miss Vera Cable is spending a few days with Mrs. Jay Brown. – Mr. Allen Hiatt who has been in the Berea hospital has returned home and is slowly improving. – Mr. Charles Brown of Fried Harlman College, Tenn. spent the weekend with friends and relatives here. – Mrs. Casper Owens spent last Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hamm. – Misses Ruth and Sue Brown visited Miss Alice Albright Sunday night. – Mr. and Mrs. Olney Sutton and son, Ronnie have returned home after a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Owens of Detroit. – Miss Ruth Brown entertained her friends with a party Sunday afternoon.
