OBIT - ALFREY, LORAINE CARPENTER

   ALFREY, Loraine Carpenter, 85, of 237 Elm Street, Salem, formerly
of Verdunville, West Va. and Rowan County, Ky., passed away Saturday,
November 7, 1998 at her residence. She was born on January 14, 1913
in Rowan County, Ky. and was the daughter of the late John C. and
Elizabeth Argo Carpenter. Her husband, Arthur P. Alfrey preceded in
death on June 29, 1987. Surviving are one daughter, Betty J. Mathis
of Salem; one brother, Pat Carpenter of Clearfield, Ky.; one sister,
Hazel Conley of Fleming County, Ky.; also surviving are six
grandchildren; eight great -grandchildren; nine great-great
grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren; two sons,
Billie Earl Alfrey and Robert Alfrey preceded there mother in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 11,
1998 at the Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel  with
the Rev. Max Molihan officiating. Burial in the New Alfrey Cemetery.
Visitation after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Northcutt & Son Home for
Funerals. Pallbearers Neil Armstrong, Bill Armstrong, Dale
Carpenter, Sandford Bently, Harold Carpenter and David Hook.
