Falkenburg recently handed The News the following clipping which he believes was published in an old Columbia, Ky., paper nearly 60 years ago: Persuant to a call which had previously been made and published by the Rev. Thomas J. Winfrey, late member of the 3rd Ky. Infantry Vol. About 300 old Union soldiers met at the court house in Jamestown, Russell county, Ky., on the 11th day of Dec. 1885, for the purpose of effecting a permanent organization of reunion of the Union soldiers and officers of the late war. On motion of Capt. F.R. Winfrey, Major M.H. Owsley was elected chairman, and Capt. A.C. Wells Secretary and the Chairman appointed the following committees on organization viz: Col. W.H. Spencer, of 3rd Ky. Inf. Col. L.H. Rousseau, of 12th Ky. Inf. Capt. F.I. Wolford, of 12th Ky. Inf. T.J. Winfrey, (pri) of 3rd Ky. Inf. Lieut. D.G. Shepherd of 5th Ky. Cav. On Resolutions Col. J.A. Morrison, of 13th Ky. Cav. Lieut. W.D. Wolford, 13th Ky. Cav. Capt. J.L. Phelps of 13th Ky. Cav. Segt. E.S. Falkenburg, 2nd Wis. Cav. Wade Callicott (pri) of 5th Ky. Cav. Segt. L. Dunbar, of 5th Ky. Cav. Daniel Wilson (pri) of 13th Ky. Cav. D.D. McFarland (pri) 3rd Ky. Cav. While the committees retired to their rooms, the meeting was addressed by the Hon. Judge M.H. Owsley, late Maj. 5th Ky. Cavalry, Rev. T.J. Winfrey, late of the 3rd Ky. Inft. Then the committees brought in the following reports. The committee on resolutions respectfully report the following, viz: Resolved, That the object of this meeting is to effect a permanent organization of reunion of the Union soldiers and officers of the late war, of this and adjoining counties. Resolved, That meeting has no political significance. Resolved, That this meeting be held annually in this or one of the adjoining counties. Resolved, That we entertain the most kindly feeling and the highest respect for the gallant soldiers of the late confederate army, and desire the most friendly association with them. J.L Phelps, chairman. The committee on organization met and on motion Col L.H. Rousseau was appointed chairman, and Col. W.H. Spencer Sec. On further motion the following permanent officers were unanimously recommended for selection by the meeting, viz: Sergt. E.S. Falkenburg, Co. M, 2nd Wis. Cav., as President, Capt. W.P. Payne, Co. G., 12th Ky. Inft., as Vice President, Capt. A.C. Wells, Co. I, 5th Ky. cavalry, as Sec., Dr. W.D. Wolford, 2nd Lieut. Co. K 13th Ky. cavalry as Treasurer, Rev. T.J. Winfrey, Capt. F.I. Wolford, Capt. J.L Phelps, Col. J.A. Morrison and Wade Callicott, as an executive committee. L.H. Rousseau, Chairman. W.H. Spencer, Secretary. Which reports were unanimously adopted and then the meeting was addressed by Capt. J.L. Phelps, Col. J.A. Morrison, Asa Wells, Hon. A.P. Simpson, Col. J.M. Asher, Prof. D.F. Sutherland, Rev. R.B. Campbell and others. Then the meeting adjourned. M.H. Owsley, Chairman. A.C. Wells, Secretary. After the meeting in the court house was over, the old soldiers formed on the public square and upon count, there was found to be 312 of them in line, and they marched around the town under command of Col. J.A. Morrison, and during the meeting in the court house, excellent music was furnished by the Russell count brass band No. 1, which headed the column in the march; there was supposed to be about 1,000 people to witness the reunion of the old war worn veterans.
