J.W. PATTERSON who is compiling old records at the courthouse in Jamestown , Ky: we are publishing the rocrd of the proceedings of the first court held in RUSSELL COUNTY. Be it remembered that on Monday the 10th day of April, 1826 A.M. the 24th, year of the commonwealth at the home of JOHNATHON PATTERSON. In said county of RUSSELL commissioners of the peace from his excellency, Joseph Desha Esq. governor of this commonwealth constituting and appointing NATHAN MOORE, THOS.SHAW, DANIEL W.WELBURN, MARCUM HULING, JOHN WILLIAMS, JOHN BALLENGER, ROBERT TRABUE, OBEDIAH STEPHENS, MILTON LAIR, JAMES DUNCAN and WILLIAM GREENE, Gentlemen Justice of the peace and of the County Court and for the county aforsaid, was produced and made whereupon each of the said commissioned Justices took the oath to support the Constitution of the United states and the several oaths prescribed by the constitution and laws of this Commonwealth and thereupon took their seats. BERRYMAN HOLT, ESQ; produced a commission from his excellency, JOSEPH DESHA ESQ; Goveror of Kentucky nominating and appointing him Sheriff in and for RUSSELL COUNTY. whereupon he took the necessary oaths required by law and excuted and acknowledged bond in penal sum of three thousand dollars, with CHARLES KEAN, JOBE KEARNS, WILLIAM PATTERSON, and NATHAN MOORE his securities conditioned as the law directs, --missing-- he having produced a certificate from a majority of the judges of the Court of Appeals as required by the Constitution of this commonwealth and taken the necessary oaths of office and the oath to support the constitution of the United States of America and the oath prescribed by the constitution of Kentucky and excecuted bond in the sum of ten thousand dollars conditioned ad the law directs. Ordered that JOHN ROBERTSON be appointed and requested to go to County of Pulaski and request the personal attendance of COL. COOPER one of the commisioners appointed to fix as a seat of Justice for RUSSELL COUNTY for which services this court will allow said ROBERTSON the sum of Five dollars to be laid in the next county Court provided he is compelled to go all the way to COL. COOPER'S house. If he is not compelled to go all the way the court agrees to allow him in Proportion to the distance he is compelled to go and also for any extra distance he may have to go. EBENEZER N. ROBERTSON is unanimously elected and appointed Attorney at law for this court until the laying and levying of the county levy to be laid by this court, he having produced a --missing-- this Commonwealth and having also taken the necessary oaths required by law. On motion of JOSEPH G. WALKER, BRYAN OWSLEY, A. WYATT SMITH and EBENEZER ROBERTSON, they having produced a legal license as required by law and taken the necessary oaths required by law are admitted to practice as Attorneys at law in this court. Ordered that HIRAM ROWE and JOHN WOLFORD be recommended to his excellency by the Govenor of this commonwealth as fit and proper persons one of whom to be commissioned Surveyor of RUSSELL COUNTY. The court proceeded to appoint commisioners for taking the list of taxable property for this year agreeable to act of Assembly approved Dec. 19 , 1825 one to each militia company within this county (viz:) CAPT. MRS JOSEPHINE McBEATH DIED AT ELI JAN 6TH Mrs. Josephine McBeath , widow of the late Hannibal McBeath, died at her home near Eli last friday morning at 9 O'clock. Mrs. McBeath she was 68 years old on Nov, 30 1938 BARNETT-COE WEDDING WEDNESDAY Mr. John Coe, of Karlus , and Mrs. Sallie Barnett, of Scott"s Chapel were united in marriage in this city, Wednesday Jan 11. Mr. Coe is a well know citizen and a successful farmer and is held in high esteem by his many friends. Mrs. Barnett is the widow of the late L.W. Barnett and is quite popular among her acquaintances. they have the best wishes of their mansy friends. FRENCH VALLEY NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Murrell were dinner guests of Stuart rexroat Sunday. Misses Fanny, Annie and Nannie grider were visiting their brother , Mr. Wallace grider and family one day last week. Misses Vona and Okra Dockery were visisting Misses Dortha and Dee McKinley Sunday/ Marion hale and family have moved to their new residence. Bro. Chilton delivered a very interesting sermon at this place Sunday. Mrs. ARTHUR ANDERSON and children were visiting Mrs. Anderson"s parents, MR.J.E. HALE and family Saturday night and Sunday. MRS. CAPITOLA DUNBAR spent one night last week with MISS. ELIZABETH HALE MRS. ETHEL HALE is teaching at MOORE'S Schoolhouse for HAROLD HELM MR. and MRS. HUBERT REXROAT visited the latter"s parents, MR. and MRS. GROVER AARON Sunday. DEATH REMOVES FINE LADY JANUARY 9 MRS. NANNIE C. WEBB, wife of A.E. WEBB, of Webbs cross roads, died at 6 A.M. Jan 9 a victim of cancer. She was about 56 years old at the time of her death. W.C. BRADSHAW PASSED AWAY On Jan 5 1939 at 6:00 A. M. MR. W.C. (Price) BRADSHAW passed away at his home near Creelsboro after a brief illness. He was about 88 years old. Among the sick Mr. W.P. Bernard was taken seriously ill late Monday afternoon at his home 3 1/2 miles north-east of Jamestown. Dr. M.M. LAWRENCE was called and administered treatment and soon MR. BERNARD was on his way to recovery. MRS. OPAL LAWRENCE, wife of DR. M. M. LAWRENCE, who has been ill for some time, was reported as being somewhat better the first of the week. MRS. SARAH DUNBAR, about 80 years old , widow of the late JWDUNBAR, has been quite sick for some time at the home of her son-in-law, MR. L.C. IRWIN, of Karlus EGBERT, son of MR. and MRS. SPENCER SMITH, of the Eller community, is reported as being quite ill, suffering from kidney trouble. MR. J.M. BLANKENSHIP, of Clear Spring, who has been seriously ill for some time, does not show any signs of improvement. PERSONALS M,D, PHELPS, of Russell Springs, was here on business Monday. MARTIN STEPHENS, of Jabez, was a business visitor to Jamestown Saturday. J.C. LaFAVORS was here from Webbs cross roads the latter part of this week. L.C. WARRINER, our Sewellton, correspondent, was a caller at The News Office while in town Friday. REV. ELMER KINNETT, of Horseshoe Bottom, was in town Saturday and had The News sent to his son, JOHN KINNETT, and daughter , MRS. THELMA BELL, of Monticello W.L. REXROAT and wife of French valley, were visitors to our city wednesday. E.M. CUNNINGHAM, proprietor of Cunninghams Garage, Russell Springs was a visitor to Louisville and Campbellsville last week. JOE MILLER, of Creelsboro was in town on business last week and while here had the news sent to his mother. STANLEY CARNES, of Swellton, was a business visitor to this office while in town on saturday LEWIS SNOW, of Puncheon Camp Bottom, was a caller in town Saturday U.D. DOWELL and MR. and MRS. ELMER RICHARDSON, of Russell Springs, were callers in town Saturday. WILLIE and ESTELL WARRINER were here from Moore schoolhouse the latter part of the week. REV. C.C. LLOTD of Clarkson Grayson county Ky, was visiting his brother , County Attorney R.E. LLOYD Saturday. REV. LLOYD'S wife is visiting her mother in Clinton county. F.F. GARNER, of olga was a business caller at this office while in town Monday. County Officials and Newspapermen of Russell county invited to new theater MR. JOHN L. SUPERVISORS APPOINTED County Judge, PORTER DUNBAR announced Monday the appointment of the board of Supervisors to go over the assesment list for the present year. SULLIVAN, Russell Springs, CLAUDE MANN, Creelsboro, RAY CHRISMAN, Ono ESTO NEWS Health of this place is fairly good at this writing MRS. JOE MORROW is on the sick list. She is taking treatment from DR. M.M. LAWRENCE RAY MORROW had his tonsils removed Wednesday by DR. POPPLEWELL The Woman"s Missionary Society members were entertained in the home of MRS. G.F. EASTHAM last Thursday for their regular meeting. Several members were present. After regular meetings refreshments were served. MRS. HADA WILLIAMS and daughter MAXINE, spent saturday and Sunday with MRS. ARLO HADLEY and family. MRS. CHESTER RIGGINS was visiting her father, WALT HART, last week end. We are sorry to hear of the death of JEWELL HAYES. She was only 28 years old. She leaves a husband and three small children besided other relatives. MRS. HOOLY GAINES suffered a stroke Saturday night and is reported in serious condition. MR. and MRS. PASCAL HARRIS and baby were visiting STEVIE HELM and family recently. ELIZABETH and KENNETH HOLT are visiting MONROE WILLIAMS and family at this writing End of week of January 12 1939 DENT ITEMS Health of this community is good except for bad colds Mr. and MRS. LORITON COFFEY are the proud parents of a daughter born Dec. 24 1938 Mr. JOHN FOLEY and family who lived on REV. ERNEST DIXON'S farm have moved to a farm near Webbs Cross Roads Mr. WILLIS CONOVER and family of Metcalfe county were visiting JAMES COFFEY last week end. MRS. WALTER MURRELL, of Joppa, was visiting MRS. ROLLIN POWELL last Sunday. JAMES STAPP has his saw mill up and running, ready for sawing. MR. JOE WHEAT, the McNESS dealer, was through this part last week delivering and taking orders for his products. MR. CHESTER COFFEY and MISS. CARTHA STEARMAN were united in marriage Dec 24 1938 after which they left for Indiana for a weeks visit with relatives. GILBERT COFFEY made a business trip to Columbia last week. Mr. and MRS. RAY HUDSON are both confined with something like the flu. Ray has been sick for about three weeks. MISS. BLANCHE WILLIAMS is visiting relatives in this part. She is getting along just fine since her operation for appendicitis. MRS. VINA GRIDER and son have left for Indianapolis to live where her daughter and son-in-law are. MR. AVERY WHEAT and sister MRS.
