BENNETT of Columbia, and MR.J.P. WINFREY , JR. son of MR. and MRS. J.P. WINFREY of Jamestown, took place at 6:30 P.M. Saturday, January 14 th at the home of REV. SIMPSON ROWE, Russell Springs , Ky. Their many friends wish them a long and happy life together. FRANK ASHBROOK DIED IN CINCINNATI FRANK ASHBROOK, formerly of this county, died in Cincinnati, Ohio, last friday. he was about 60 years old and had been in poor health for some time. He was a brother of BUD and TOM ASHBROOK of Russell Springs. His remains were brought back to this county for buriel which took place near Russell springs last saturday. MISS GERALDINE GRIDER CHAMPION SPELLER MISS GERALDINE GRIDER, daughter of MRS. ETHEL GRIDER, of Sewellton won the county Spelling Bee at the high school building here last saturday Jan. 14. MISS MAZEL WILSON, daughter of MR. HIRAM WILSON, of Webbs Cross Roads was runner up. MISS GRIDER will enter the State Spelling bee sponsored by the Courier journal which will be held during the week of the K.E.A. at Louisville. the News extends to MISS GRIDER congratulations CHARGED WITH CHICKEN STEALING On Wednesday night Jan. 18, Deputy Sheriff W.J. DUNBAR went by the way of Monticello to Bugwood, where he arrested ARNOLD BRUMLEY and OLIVER SULLIVAN on a charge of chicken stealing. they were lodged in jail in default of bond. PERSONALS ELIHU COLLINS, of Moore's Schoolhouse, was in town saturday. MR. COLLINS has been in poor health for some time and heres wishing him a speedy recovery. MRS. W.M. FOX and MRS. LINCOLN FOX, of Ono, were appreciated callers at the news office while in town monday. A.C. COFFEY , of Creelsboro was in our city Monday. W.A. STOKES, formerly of Horseshoe Bottom, now of Monticello, was meeting old friends in Jamestown Monday CLANCEY WHITTLE, prominent Whittle farmer , was here on business monday. T.C. REXROAT of bernard ridge, was a visitor to Jamestown Monday. J.E. BERNARD and sons LOVIS and OLUS, of Garlin, Adair county were here on business Wednesday. ALTON LACY, proprietor of Western Auto store, Columbia, was a recent visitor to jamestown J.D. GRIDER , one of Russell county"s leading citizens, was a caller in town Monday CLOVA HUDSON, of Indianapolis, Indiana , was a visitor here the first of the week. L.L. MANN, former member of the County board of Education, was here Tuesday. REV.J.E. WOOLDRIGE, the well known evangelist, was here from Russell Springs Wednesday. L.G. BERNARD and OLNEY COOK made a trip to Louisville Wednesday. FLANAGAN SCHOOLHOUSE Health of this place is very good. Quilting seems to be the order of the day with the women in this part. Several from this place were in Jamestown Monday. MESSERS. LESTER STEPHENS and CHESTER EADS were in danville for tobacco sales last thursday and friday. MR. and MRS. ADDIS HIGGINBOTHAM were visiting the latters parents, MR. and MRS. M. O. BENNETT and family Saturday night and Sunday. MRS. OLLIE ANDERSON was visiting her sister MRS. POLLY J. BROWN last Sunday. MR. and MRS. WILLARD EASTHAM are the proud parents of a new baby. MRS. EASTHAM is at the home of her sister, MRS. OVIS COFFEY of Parksridge MR. and MRS. LILLARD HIGGINBOTHAM and children were Sunday guests of MR. and MRS. Athol BROWN and family MRS. LOLA SMITH is spending a few weeks with her son, CARSON SMITH and family of Indiana BRYAN POPPLEWELL, of Louisville has been visiting relatives at this place for the last few days. MR. and MRS. EDD L. CROCKETT were at Jamestown last Thursday. LILLARD HIGGINBOTHAM is preparing to build a new barn on what is know as the Uncle GEORGE COFFEY place. Several in this part have had chicken pox but no new cases have been reported. Success to the news. PARKS RIDGE NEWS Health of this community is very good at present. The recent rains have stopped plowing but quite a bit of plowing has already been done. JONAH BENNETT and family have moved back to his place on Caney Fork Creek. ASA SMITH has moved to his father"s place on Parks Ridge, vacated by TOM YEADON, and YEADON has gone to CLINT SMITH'S place near Karlus, vacated by ASA SMITH. OK GEORGE HART recently purchased a nice pair of mules from GEORGE STEPHENS price unknown Born to the wife of WILLARD EASTHAM , Jan 4th a 10 1/2 pound boy given the name KENDALL KEITH MRS. RICE STEPHENS and little daughter , PAULINE, are visiting her daughter, MRS. ARLUS FLANAGAN of Concord Ridge, today WALDO COFFEY, wife and little daughter ANDELL, were visiting the former"s parents Saturday night and sunday. MRS. KELLEY BERNARD was visiting at OVUS and BUG COFFEY'S last Sunday eve. BRO. ADDIE SMITH preached at freedom Church, Adair county, last Saturday eve and Sunday. He has charge of the church at that place this year, preaching every second Sunday and Saturday eve before. MINNIE SMITH spent Thursday night with her daughter, MRS. CLAUDE GEORGE of Concord Ridge Some from this part went to the Y.P. E at bernard last Wednesday night. NAOMA BENNETT spent last Tuesday night with her sister MRS.
