CRISP who has for many years operated a general store and for the past several years has operated a shoe store and filling station in Jamestown, has sold his business and leased his property to MESSRS. LOUIE and E.E. FOLEY both of Jamestown and they are now in posession and doing business under the firm name FOLEY and FOLEY. NEW GARAGE OPENS NEXT SATURDAY Jamestown Motors , formerly owned and operated by H. P. DUNBAR , will reopen for business next Saturday Jan. 28 MR. DUNBAR has secured the Ford agency for Ford cars and trucks. WPA PROJECT FOREMAN JOHN DUNCAN , of Monroe County, has been assigned to Russell County as project foreman for WPA. We do not know MR. DUNCAN but he comes highley recommended and we wish him much success in his new undertaking. " MARY AGNES" NAME OF NEW THEATRE The new theatre in Jamestown was given the name "MARY AGNES" in the contest which closed Saturday night. (Missing) MISS ROXY LEACH, MESSRS. T.R. SULLIVAN and H.E. PRUITT, all suggested the lucky name and were given six weeks passes to all shows at the theatre except those on percentage basis. The name was given in honor of MRS. AGNES STORY, wife of MR. JOHN L. STORY, owner of the new theatre. SALEM-CASEY ROAD This year the Salem and casey county line road was built from salem to the casey county line. I t was the hope of officials here that casey county would build her end of the road. Those that have the power should insist on it being completed as soon as possible. This would give the people of the north end a chance to get out either way. CHARLES H. FAIR FOR COMMONWEALTH ATTORNEY HON. CHARLES H. FAIR, of Liberty, Ky is considering becoming a candidate for commonwealth "s attorney of this, the 29th Judicial District in the coming August primary. MR. FAIR is a very successful lawyer, and has a fine record as an official, having served as County attorney and as a member of the Legislature. he is well-known and popular over the district and will be a strong contender for the nomination if he decides to enter the Republican primary. INDIANA MAN ARRESTED HERE At the request of officers of Shelbyville, Indiana, Sheriff A. W. LEACH and Deputy W.J. DUNBAR went to Ono Monday and arrested WESLEY POLSTON, who is wanted in Indiana on a felony charge. POLSTON is being held in jail pending arrival of Indiana officers. While at Ono, the officers located and captured a complete copper still which had been in use only a few hours before arrival, but no one was found at the still and no arrests have been made. COOK, died at her home on East Cumberland Ave. Jamestown , Ky at 3:30 A. M. Jan. 26 She had been in poor health for some time and only recently was taken to the hospital. HOWARD MOORE'S CANDIDATE FOR REPRESENTATIVE MR. HOWARD MOORE, of Liberty , prominent Casey county teacher and popular citizen, was here Friday and informed the News that he was in the race for the Republican nomination for Representative from the Russell-Casey district. BRYAN BLANKENSHIP, Administrator of the estate of F.M/ BLANKENSHIP, deceased OBITUARY ALTA PEARL HAWKINS was born October 27, 1898, daughter of CYRUS and SARAH HAWKINS. She was married to IRA D. FOLEY Sept. 1st 1915. To this union nine children were born, one of whom preceded her to the grave. She professed faith in Christ at the early age of 12 years and lived a true christian till the end. She was a member of the russell Springs Methodist church. Health in this part is very good except for bad colds. U.S. engineers have been working near here for the past few days and will continue to do so for several more. They also work in Herriford Bottom. AVERY ARTHUR took dinner with DORA BLANKENSHIP Friday. MRS. JESSIE WALTERS spent a few days last week with her mother-in-law, MRS. NORA WALTERS of Punchout camp (Missing) MRS. E.C. KINNETT is visiting her son, JOHN, and daughter, MRS. THELMA BELL, of Monticello. NORMAN and WOODROW COFFEY and CHARLIE KINNETT were at Monticello one night last week. On January 12 some of the relatives and friends enjoyed a delious dinner at RUEL COE'S in honor of his birthday. MRS. LOU BLANKENSHIP was the guest of MRS. CASSIE COE one day last week. E.C. KINNETT made a business trip to jamestown one day last week. RANDALL and LENA BLANKENSHIP spent last weekend with MRS. BESSIE BLANKENSHIP and MRS. ZORA SNOW and family of Jamestown. E.C. and CHARLIE KINNETT, DORA, LENA DORIS and MONTIE ELMER BLANKENSHIP, MR. and MRS. HERSCHAL HARMON were the Saturday night guests of MR. and MRS. F. F. COFFEY MR. and MRS. HENRY WALTERS spent Sunday with the latters parents, MR. and MRS. CHARLIE McKINNEY MRS. FLORA KINNETT and granddaughter, LULA MARGARETTE JOHNSON were visitors of little NORMA (Missing) OLGA NEWS Health of this community is not so good at this writing. Several have colds and there are several cases of chicken pox among the school children. MRS. HULDA HADLEY, who has been sick for sometime is better at this writing. MRS. ROSE HELM, who has been sick for so long, is not well at this time. MRS. LURA WOOLDRIGE and little daughter FETTIE JANE, were visiting her father from Friday untill Tuesday. MRS. LELAR HELM and her two daughters, PAULINE and IRENE, were visiting MRS. KITTIE HADLEY Tuesday. LUTHER ANTLE, our merchant is enjoying a good trade. FRANCES GARNER visisted her aunt MISS DORA MANN of Creelsboro recently. CLYDE HILL, son of ARVILL HILL who has been sick is better. REV. NORMAN ANTLE of Jamestown filled BRO. O'BANION'S appointment at Grider"s Chapel Sunday. Everybody seemed to be glad to have BRO. ANTLE back again The road is progressing fine through here. MRS. CORA HILL and daughter visisted MRS. ARVILLE HILL recently. MRS. NANNIE HELM and little daughter FAE, visited her grand mother , CARMI HADLEY, Sunday. FRANCIS FLATT made a business trip to Creelsboro Sunday. ESTO NEWS Health of this place is very good at this writing with the exception of colds. MRS. G.F. EASTHAM is better at this writing. MRS. JOE MORROW is doing nicely under the care of DR. M. M. LAWRENCE MR. and MRS. JIM STAPP and children were visiting MR. and MRS. SIDNET HOLT recently. MESSRS. MONROE WILLIAMS, BART HADLEY and LUTHER BRADSHAW ( of color) were on the Harroodsburg tobacco market recently and reported good prices. MRS. L.M. HART, who has been on an extended visit with her sister, MRS. CLARENCE HARRISON, of Somerset, has returned home. MESSRS. ROBERT LEACH, COLBERT MEDARIS, WALT HART, OTIS WEBB and JIM BLAKEY were in town on business recently. MR. and MRS. MONROE WILLIAMS and daughter, MAXINE, were visiting the former"s mother, MRS. WILLIAM, of Blairs schoolhouse recently. MRS. BART HADLEY is at the bedside of her mother MRS. JEFF COOK, who is reported very sick at this writing. MR. JIM BLAKELY bought a fine mare from MR. G.F. EASTHAM one day last week. Price private. MR. WILL HARE, the Esto jockey, is always riding a new horse. At present it is a strawberry roan, but by the next writing it is very uncertain what it will be. The Rural schools have come to the close of a very sucessful year. MRS. G. F. EASTHAM had business in Jamestown recently. AMONG THE SICK MR. W. A. COFFEY'S many friends will learn with regret of serious illness at his home in Columbia, Ky. MR. COFFEY is ending a splendid record as Commonwealth"s Attorney for Judicial District and people generally will be anxious for his recovery. At last reports he was thought to be slightly improved. MR. S.C. NEAT, Master Commisioner of Adair county, is ill in his home in Columbia. He has many friends who will be anxious at his cindition and who will be pleased to learn of his improvement. MRS. J.C. CARTER, who is quite ill shows a slight improvement in condition at last reports. She has been in bad health for some time and The news joins the many friends in wishing her a speedy recovery. MRS. SARAH DUNBAR, of this city is in very poor health. We are very sorry to report that there is not much sign of improvement. Her many friends are very anxious about her condition. MESSRS. EDD OLDHAM and JOE POLSTON were conveyed to the veterans Hospital at Dayton, Ohio Tuesday by DR. J.R. POPPLEWELL and H.E. PRUITT where they will take treatment. CONGRADULATIONS Although we tried hard for seven years in the Courier journal Spelling bee to bring home honor to russell county as winner of the State match, and to win for ourselves the trip to Washington, we do not feel that we have lost. Since we could not win first place at Louisville, we are proud of the cash prizes we received. The experience and training will be of life long benefit to us. We are proud of North Jerico, as we have represented Russell county in the state match every year the county has been represented. We wish to congradulate MISS. GERALDINE GRIDER, Russell"s champion speller this year, for her splendid efforts. We are sincerelly hoping she will win the State match and bring home first prize from washington. We want to see russell county win state honors and Kentucky again win national honors. ORA WILSON OLEN FOLEY HAZEL WILSON MAZEL WILSON Former County champion FROM CHENOA , ILLINOIS MR. and MRS. J.H. WOMACK of this city celebrated the fifieth anniversary of their marriage at their home on January 17. LENA ANTLE and JAMES HINDMAN WOMACK were married Jan. 17 , 1889 by the REV. CHARLES DEENER in Montpelier , Kentucky. In 1910 they came to this community and have resided here since. Both are active members of the baptist Church of which MR. WOMACK serves as a deacon: he is also a member of the Masonis Lodge. They have six children, all of whom were present for the occasion. the children are: LUCIAN WOMACK, of Russell Springs, Ky. LAWRENCE WOMACK and MRS. ZELMA SHAFFER both of Chenoa, MRS. VESTA WILSON, of Decatur, ELBERT WOMACK, of Forrest, and MYRON WOMACK , of Peoria. There are 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. MR. and MRS. WOMACK entertained with a family dinner at their home on Sunday, January 15th, with twenty-six present. MR.and MRS. WOMACK and their children were seated at one table and were served by grand daughters. A bountiful dinner was served and a large cake decorated in gold and white was the centerpiece. Those present included: LUCIAN WOMACK and daughter, LENA MAE and TAYLOR SULLIVAN of Russell Springs, Ky MR. and MRS. ELBERT WOMACK, of Forrest, MR. and MRS. W.H. WILSON of Decauter, MR. and MRS. MYRON WOMACK of Peoria, MR. and MRS. FRANK OLSEN, of Chicago, MR. and MRS. LAWRENCE WOMACK and family, MR. and MRS. BERT ARNOLD and sons, MR. and MRS. GEORGE SHAFFER and family all of Chenoa. MR. and MRS. WOMACK held open house on Tuesday during which time many friends called to extend congraulations.
