ALONZO F. ABSHER, JOHNNIE GREEN BERNARD, ROBERT W. BUNCH, CYRUS R. COOK, SAM F. CONNOR, CALVIN DAVIS, CARSON W. DAVIS, JAMES BEECHER DUNBAR, JAMES H. FORD, CURTIS L. GAINES, HUSTON W. GOSSER, THEODORE R. HAMMOND, ALFORD H. HELM, WILLARD KNIGHT, JAMES M. McFARLAND, CLEIS W. NEATHERY, CALEB P. STEPHENS, LESTER WILSON, JOSEPH I YEADON. ALTERNATES FINIS R. CARNES, JUNIOR MOORE, ELMORE KINNETT All were accepted including the alternates, but after the parties who took the boys to camp had started home, it was ascertained that the camp in which they were to have been sent was full, and the three boys returned home that night. The boys were conveyed to the camp by SILAS STEARNS and LUCIAN KINNETT. Mrs. ALVA DIDDLE County Certifying Agent also accompanied the boys to the camp. STEARNS-ANTLE WEDDING SATURDAY , APRIL 1 Mr. BELBY ANTLE, of Manntown, and Miss LELA STEARNS, of Salt Creek eloped to Byrdstown, Tenn April 1, after a long delay, and were quietly married. They were both prominent young people of that community and were accompanied by Misses GLADYS and TILDA BURCHETT, Messrs. OVAL HADLET and PRESTON WELLS. Their many friends wish them a long and happy life of wedlock. BIBLE SCHOOL IN PROGRESS AT UNION CHAPEL Miss CLORA MANN and a Mrs. LAWLESS are teaching a vacation Bible School at Union Chapel with 41 students enrolled. Rev. OVERSTREET and Prof. LAWRENCE RICH are holding a revival at Union Chapel MASTER COMMISIONER SELLS SIX TRACTS OF LAND Master Commissioner L.G. BERNARD made the following land sales at the courthouse door here last Monday, under judgements of the Russell Circuit Court. The W.F. WADE farm, located near irvin"s store was sold to Dr. J.B. TARTER for $1, 750 W.T. STEPHENS was the purchaser of the ATTIS HOPPER property in Russell Springs for $ 1, 304 The ADA WILSON 6-acre baby farm, near Fonthill, was sold to HANSFORD WILSON for $171. The JESSE POTTS baby farm, located in the Webbs cross roads section , was bid in by JESSE POTTS for $350. The PRICE BRADSHAW farm, near old Olga, was sold to BASCUM COFFEY for $405. The EDGAR COFFEY farm located near Clear Spring Church , was bid in by the COFFEY heirs for $1,100 MR. A.W. REESE BUILDS NEW RESIDENCE IN JAMESTOWN Mr. A. W. REESE, our efficient Rural Route carrier on Route 1 is just completing another new residence in the REESE addition. This makes about four new residences that Mr. REESE has constructed. Just as fast as Mr. REESE completes a residence some one is ready to occupy it and he has succeeded in locating some of the best citizenship to be found anywhere in this new addition to jamestown. Mr. REESE is a wide awake business man always looking forward to the upbuilding of his community along all lines. He and his father have about completed their new factory building on Greasy Creek and when this structure is completed it will house the REESE Woolen Mills and will be one of the business centers of Russell County. COLLINS, of Route one Jamestown were in our city Thursday and gave us their subscription to the News. Miss. WILLYE COOK was shopping in Campbellsville the latter part of the week, she also visited her sister SUSIE, while there. Attorney M.J. STERNBURG was in Louisville Friday on business. PAUL HADLEY, of Route 2, was here recently and added his name to our subscription list. Mr. CHARLIE STEPHENS, prominent farmer, of Caney Fork Creek, was here on business Saturday. HENDERSON STEPHENS, farmer of Caney Fork Creek, had business in our town the latter part of the week. Miss CLARA COOK was shopping at Russell Springs last Saturday. FINLEY GASKIN and NORMAN ANTLE left Sunday for Louisville to visit the former"s son, who is confined in the Children"s hospital in the city. Rev. J.E. WOOLDRIDGE was here from Russell Springs the first of the week. Miss SUSIE M. COOK, of Campbellsville, spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.F. COOK, returning to Campbellsville on Monday afternoon. MARTIN STEPHENS, prominent Jabez farmer was a visitor to our city Monday. E.P. CONNER, of Indian Creek, was a business caller in town Monday. L.H. JONES, prominent colored citizen of Crocus, was in town Monday and added his name to our subscription list. P.M. DENNEY and son, WALTER of Jabez were visitors to Jamestown Friday. REV. ALVIN G. ROSSON, Missionary for the American Sunday School Union was here from Columbia Friday. Mrs. MATILDA CANADA, Mrs. GINNIE F. GOSSAGE and grandson GLEN GOSSAGE, Misses ELIZA ELLEN CANADA, EMMA GOSSAGE and GARNET GRIDER spent Easter Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. F.F. COOK, of East Cumberland Ave. HIRAM J. WILSON, former member of the county board of education , was here from Webbs Cross Roads, Tuesday. B. STEPGENS and E.R. COFFEY of Russell Springs attended county court here Monday. JOHN A. BERNARD, of the Eller community was a visitor in town Monday. ESTO NEWS Health of this community is very good except colds. The women in this part are still quilting. Most of the farmers are busy plowing and sowing grass seed. Quiet a bit of visiting took place during easter. Mr. and Mrs. OMRI EASTHAM of newcastle ,Indiana, were visiting homefolks over the weekend Mr. AND Mrs. OLEN COFFEY and son ,KENNETH,visited Mr. and Mrs. AUBREY EASTHAM and children Saturday night. Mr. IRELAND HART spent Friday night in Herriford Bottom, the guest of his brother, MARVIN HART. He was accompanied home by his sister,Mrs.LEO WHITTLE, and daughter,LOIS, who remained until Monday. Mrs. ETHEL LAWLESS and sons, of AUSTIN,IND., visited the formers sister,Mrs. WILL HARE over the weekend. Mrs. LAURA HART is on an extended visit to Somerset, where she is visiting her sister, Mrs.CLARENCE HARRISON. Mr. and Mrs. JOHN WILLIAMS and family spent Sunday with MONROE WILLIAMS and family. Mr.WALT HART and grandson JERRY TARTER, spent Sunday with Mr. and mrs. IRELAND HART Mr. and Mrs. MARVIN MEDARIS and Miss REBA HART attended a birthday dinner at JOHN WHITE"S SUNDAY. HUFFAKER RITES ON THURSDAY Mr. TOBIAS HUFFAKER, 84 years old died Monday at the home of his daughter in Tabor City, N.C. The remains are being brought to Columbia for funeral on Thursday. MISS LURA GASKINS CALLED BY DEATH Miss LURA GASKINS, daughter of Mr. and mrs. GEORGE M. GASKINS of Jamestown passed away in the Somerset Hospital Monday April 10th. She had been in declining health for several months and was conveyed to the hospital last Sunday for an operation which was performed, death ensuing on the date. At the meeting of the Middle Atlantic States Conference of the American Sunday School Union held at Knoxville , Tenn, last week, Rev. A.G. ROSSON was given unusual honors. Dr. PARKHILL, Superintendent of Missions of the Union, stated that Rev. ROSSON had more active Sunday Schools than any other missionary in the United States. Dr. BAKER, another American Sunday School Union official, made the statement that the Columbia man had done more teacher training than any other missionary in this country. Rev. ROSSON was accompanied to the conference by Rev. AVERY EASTRIDGE. NEW DIRECTORS OF GAME AND FISH ASSOCIATION At a recent meeting of the Russell County Game and fish Association Mr. ERNEST ROSS of Creelsboro and Dr. K.S. LESTER of Jamestown were elected as members of the board of directos. This Association has information from the Department of Games and fish of Frankfort Ky stating that they will send fish to stock the streams of this county. They have also promised quail to stock the farms of Russell County. OLIVER POPPLEWELL ENTERS RACE FOR CIRCUIT JUDGE The Casey County News for this week carried the announcement of Attorney OLIVER POPPLEWELL, of Liberty, as a candidate fro the republican Nomination for Circuit judge of the 29th Judicial District, composed of the counties of Adair, Casey, Cumberland , Monroe and Russell. Mr. POPPLEWELL is 44 years old, a World War veteran and has practiced law for many years. J.A. GARRETT KILLED IN A TRUCK ACCIDENT Mr. JAMES ALFRED GARRETT, of Rheber, Casey County was killed instantley in a truck accident near Springfield, Ky Tuesday night of last week. Mr. GARRETT was 77 years old and a native of this county. He was the first cousin of Mr. G.M. CHOATE and Mrs. LEOMA WESLEY of this city. ACCEPTS POSITION WITH BECKS GARAGE Mr. J.C. BERNARD has accepted a position as chief mechanic at CLAUDE BECK"S Garage and is now on the job. He has many years experience on all makes of cars and you are assured of an honest job when your work is entrusted to his care. MRS. J.O. PROCK PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY Mrs. CRETIA PROCK, wife of JAMES O. PROCK, who formerly lived at Jamestown, but who now resides in Adair County, was reported to be in serious condition and not expected to live. LATER: Since the above was put to type, word came to this office that Mrs. PROCK died Wednesday. JAILER J.C. STEPHENSON IN GLASGOW HOSPITAL Jailer J.C. STEPHENSON has been quite ill for several days and on Thursday of last week was conveyed to the community Hospital Glagow, Ky. He seemed to be better and returned home last Sunday. On Tuesday he was again taken to the glasgow hospital. His many friends are wishing him a speedy recovery. McGOWAND-FOLEY WEDDING SATURDAY, APRIL 8th Mr. VELMER FOLEY and Miss ORPHA McGOWAND motored to the Christian church parsonage in Jamestown where they were united in marriage last Saturday at 2:00 O"clock P.M. Rev. LYLE HARVEY performing the ceremony. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. B.E. FOLEY and is an industrious young miller. He is now operating the NELSON Roller Mill, located one mile east of Jamestown. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. ALONZO McGOWAND, of Russell Springs, and is a splendid young lady.
