ALLEN This Indenture made and entered into between B.S. Newland, S. Lawson, A.P. Carrothers and T. Boswell acting as Trustees for the Methodist Episcopal Church at Olive Branch of the first part and Thomas A. Allen of the second part all of the County of Shelby and State of Kentucky The party of the first part having been authorized by an act passed by the Legislature and approved August 31st 1862 Entitled an act for the benefit of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Olive Branch which said act authorizes us as Trustees to sell the Land which belongs to said Church and therefore we the party of the first part and acting as Trustees for the said Church authorized by said act do grant bargain and sell unto the party of the second part the following parcel or tract of land Towit. Three fourths of an acre of Land more or less located in Shelby County on the waters of Brashers Creek adjoining and surrounded by the land of said Allen which parcel or tract of Land has a grave yard on it fenced in with a stone wall which grave yard we reserve and also the right of way to and from said grave yard, for the sum of Eighteen Dollars to be paid by the party of the second part which sum the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged. The party of the first part also agrees to defend the title said parcel or tract of Land from all persons, whomsoever, to which agreement we affix our hands and seals this the ______day of January 1863. Ballard Clerk of the County Court for the County aforesaid certify that this deed from the Trustees of Olive Branch Church to Thomas A. Allen was (this-struck out) on the lst day of January 1863 produced to me in my office and acknowledged by B.S. Newland and M.T. Boswell to be their act and deed and said deed was on the 5th day of January 1863 acknowledged by A.P. Carrothers to be his act and deed and said deed was on the 12 day of January 1863 acknowledged by S.J. Lawson to be his act and deed and the tax being paid on the 24th day of January 1863 said deed and this certificate was admitted to record in my office.
