L. Webb departed this life to his heavenly home. James L. Webb was the son of Edward K. Webb. He was born in Shelby Co. Kentucky, Dec 16, 1822, and of his Kentucky home he had fond recollections and loved to talk. It was there that he learned the harness makers' trade, under his father. He went to work when he was only 8 years old, and followed it ever since. He enlisted in the Mexican army at Danville, Kentucky, under Capt. Fry and served all through the Mexican war. He married in 1851, Mary Jane Smith, who died after a short marriage of six months. In 1853 he married his present wife Luticia (sic) Blackston. He is the father of eleven children all of whom except on survive him - six sons, Frank, Thomas, William, James, Edward and Charles and five daughters, Ruth, Rettie, Cora, and Elsa who are dead. He moved from Kentucky in 1855 to Johnson Co., Mo, lived there two years and moved to Buchanan county, and resided there and in Clinton Co. ever since. He joined the order of Free Masons while in Kentucky and was a master Mason, he was a member of the lodge that used to meet at Font's old store, but as his family was large he became an affiliate. He professed religion in 1878 and united with the Christian church. He alway(s) maintained a uniform course of piety. He was a kind husband and an affectionate father and an honest an respected citizen. Although a very quiet man he will be greatly missed among his associates. His loss to his family and friends is irreparable - but their loss is his eternal gain. "The Great Father gave and he hath taken away." "Blessed be the name of the Lord." After a few appropriate remarks by Brother B.F. Poe, he was interred in the cemetery at Old Antioch. ============================================================================= USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities as long as this message remains on all copied material.
