Permission--handwritten note:
This is to certify that I Lambert Lane (?) and I Rebekah Lane of Shelby
County to grant Liberty that license may be Given That John Ross and our
Daughter Sally Lane may Be Marryed Given under our hands this twenty
Seventh Day of September one thousand Seven hundred and Ninety Seven.

Know all men by these pursuits that we John Ross and Henry Johns are
held and firmly bound unto James Garrard, Esq. Governor of the State of
Kentucky in the penal sum of Fifty pounds Good and lawfully money of the
State aforesaid to which payment will and truly be made to the said
Governor and his __________ we bind ourselves our heirs  __ Jointly and
severally _______ by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this
27 day of September seventeen hundred and Ninety Seven.
     This condition of the above obligation as such that whereas there
is a marriage shorty intended to be solemnised between the Above Bound
John Ross -- &Wf Sally Lane for which a License was Issued now if there
be no Lawfull cause to Obstruct the said marriage then the above
Oligations to be void Else to remain in full force and affect.
