Mt. Tabor Cumberland Presbyterian Church

(cemetery currently known as Cold Water)

  Mt. Tabor Church was founded in 1861. Although the charter states the county as Warren, it is actually
located in Simpson County.  The church sat in the flat area at the bottom of the hill in front of the 
cemetery commonly referred to as Cold Water. The current name "Cold Water Cemetery" came from the "old"
Cold Water School that sat in the field behind the cemetery above Cold Water Spring.  When the new school
was rebuilt, it was located on present day Hwy. 622 near the intersection with Harris Road.
 
  The pages following the index represent the second of the Pastor's Journals that cover the period from 
1875 through 1898.  The pages are typed exactly as they appear in the book with a reference to any blank 
pages.  Misspelled words are typed as-is and noted.  All names are spelled as they were written.  The 
alphabetical index can be used to check names that are mentioned. Any clarifications that I could make 
are noted in (  ) some with a (?).

  Any clarifications that you can make that would be of help to other researchers are welcome.  If possible,
pass them along to me so I can include them in future reprints.

NOTES:
1) John Massey - in the book his signature appears to read Mafsey which is in the old handwriting 
   style common for "ss".
2) Eyery Renn - there is an Ira Wren buried with his wife Cynthia Blackburn in the Trinity Presbyterian
   Cemetery in Three Springs, Warren Co., KY.
3) Jane Blackburn - need to verify the year of death.  The journal has it as 1868 and the book, 
   "Cemeteries of Simpson County" has it as 1867.
4) Alvira J. Barnett - married (1) Samuel Lane, married (2) R.C. Stublefield on 13 Nov 1874.  She 
   is in an unmarked grave between the two, (page 153, "Simpson County, Kentucky Records". This 
   information furnished by Mrs. Sam Martin, Frankfort, KY to the Simpson County Archives.
5) Buried at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church which is nearby.
6) Buried at Hunt Cemetery across from Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
