Deed Book E p. 268 Know all men by these presents that I JOHN STRANGE of the County of Spencer and State of Kentucky have made nominated constituted and appointed and by these presents do make constitute and appoint my son JAMES STRANGE of the same County and State aforesaid by me my lawful attorney for and in my name and for my use and benefit to sell and dispose of a certain Negro boy named ANDERSON being entirely black and who is a slave for life and about twenty two years and belongs to me and is my individual property. And my said attorney is hereby authorized and required to sell and dispose of said slave as aforesaid to any person or persons he may think fit and proper for the best price he can get for cash in hand or on a short credit as he may think best and when sold to make a Bill of Sale to the purchaser or purchasers in my name or otherwise as he may deem expedient and best and the money arising from such sale or so much thereof as may be necessary from such sale or so much thereof as may be necessary to apply to the payment of my just Debts and the balance to apply to the payment of any just Debts and the balance to return to me if any such balance should remain after the payment of my debts. Hereby ratifying and confirming all such sale and sales settlement and settlements of any business as before mentioned which shall at my time here after be made by my said attorney touching or considering the promises as aforesaid.
