Will Book B p. 179 In the name of God Amen. I BENJAMIN COLLINGS this 28 July 1830 lying on a bed of affliction but perfectly in my senses and composed & Solemnly make this my last will & Testament. First I Bequeath to my wife SARAH COLLINGS one third part of my Estate both personal and Real during her natural life after which it shall be thrown back in common with my other property for Division. Second I bequeath to my daughter SARAH COLLINGS a Certain negro Girl ten years old named DELIAN also my riding mare for which property I allot her to make her even with those of my children that are married and left me. Thirdly I Bequeath to my son SAMUEL one years schooling and a certain Boy MAX? MAW? about three years old last June and two hundred Dollars in money which I conceive makes him equel with those of my other children that married and left me. Fothly I Bequeath to my son FELIX COLLINGS two hundred Dollars in money which makes his part equel to my children thats married and left me. Fifthly: I Bequeath to my son in Law JOSEPH KENNETT two Dollars in money which is the full amount that said KENNETT shall ever have of my Estate I also Bequeath to JOSEPH KENNETTS four children Namely HADEN, BENJAMIN and CHARLES each seventy Dollars in moneys. Sixthly I Bequeath to my son-in - Law JOHN McDOWELL Two Dollars in money which is the full amount that said McDOWELL shall have of my Estate. I also Bequeath to JOSEPH McDOWELL two children namely MARY & JOSEPH cash seventy dollars in money. I lastly request that my sons ISAAC and ELISHA COLLINGS shall act as my Executors and pay to my several grandchildren above named seventy Dollars to each as they come of age or mar married after which monies are paid the balance of my property to be equally divided above my now living children. WITHERS and ALEXANDER (X) PURSELL Recorded 13 September 1830 Spencer Co. KY Court Spencer Co. Will Book B p. 186 We the undersigned being appointed by the Spencer County Court to lay off and allot to SARAH COLLINGS widow of BENJAMIN COLLINGS Dec’d her Dower in the land slaves and personal estate of which her Dec’d husband died seized and possessed of 27 Sep 1830 and being sworn and having ascertained the quantity of land belonging to said COLLINGS dec’d finding the tract to contain 183 3/4 acres and & 33 poles we then proceeded to lay off and allot to SARAH one third part of said tract of Land on the west bank of Plum Creek on a line of MATTHEW NELSONS and running thence with NELSON’s line south... to a stone near a branch of the south side of the road leading Shelbyville to Shepherdsville thence south to the bank of Plum Creek ... containing 56 acres 1 quarter 11 poles together with the Mantion house and other out building barn and stables. We then proceeded to allott the said SARAH COLLINGS her dower in the slaves of the said BENJAMIN COLLINGS Dec’d there being 4 in number and their names are as follows: negro man named JAMES $400.00 negro man named MAJ $300.00 negro woman named JUDIE $268.00 negro girl named DELIAN $175.00 Total value $1140.00 - one third of value $380.00 Mrs. SARAH COLLINGS then made her choice of the negro man named JAMES valued at $400.00 which allot to her part of the slaves of her said husband Dec’d by the said SARAH COLLINGS paying $20 to the executors out of her part of the personal estate which she the said SARAH COLLINGS agreed to pay and they allotted to the said SARAH all that part of the field of corn that lies in the bottom field below the barne supposed to be about 18 acres which was appraised at $4.25 per acre $75.50 (A long list of personal property was also assigned the widow).
