KY Will Book A p.392 I NATHANIEL B. WOOD of Jefferson County and State of Kentucky being of Sound mind & memory do make Ordain and establish this to be my last will and Testament hereby expressly revoking all other wills by me Made. First it is my will and I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid. Secondly I give to my Brother JAMES T. WOOD my Gold Watch Thirdly I give my large gilt framed looking glass to my sister ELEANOR DEACON Fourthly it is my will that the following slaves towit: ANN, ELIZA, ELIZABETH, BERTRAND & LOUISA be free and emancipated and forever released from all Servitude whatsoever at my death And I do by these presents set free emancipate the said Slaves each of them and all their increase they may have from the date of this will said emancipation to take affect at my death as aforesaid. Fifthly I direct my Executors at my death to bind out the boy BERTRAND at my death to learn some suitable trade till he is twenty years of age at which age he is to be finally free - But he is to be subject to the Control of my executors on the choice of his guardians till he reaches that age. If he shall be too young at my death they may not bind him out till he arrives at a suitable age to learn a trade. Sixthly I appoint my Brother JAMES and Col. JOSEPH FUNK jointly Trustees for the following purposes To wit: My Executors shall pay over to said Trustees the sum of Five Hundred and fifty Dollars which Sum Shall be vested in their Lands in Trust that they shall appropriate it to the following purposes and uses that is to say Two Hundred and twenty five Dollars part of the above Sum shall be for the use and benefit of ELIZA’s two Children, BERTRAND and LOUISA and also the child with which said ELIZA is now pregnant and shall be by said trustees appropriated to the use and wants of said children during their minority in the discretion of said Trustees and the residue to be paid to them or the survivor or survivors of them in equal portions as they reach the age of twenty one years. And the said Trustees shall hold Three hundred and Twenty five Dollars part of said sum in Trust for the use and benefit of the aforesaid ANN & ELIZABETH and they shall at their discretion appropriate Said money to the Use and wants of said ANN & ELIZABETH during their minority and their residence thereof they shall pay over to them or the survivors of them as they arrive at the age of twenty one years respectively in equal portions, Provided that said Trustees if they think proper may pay over the whole of said five Hundred and fifty Dollars to one or all of said Children before they arrive at twenty one years of age as they may be entitled to the same respectively under the foregoing provisions. Seventhly my Executors are required to Convey into affect the emancipation of Said Slaves in the County Court according to the laws of this state. Eighthly I give to my nephew DEARBORN GATTON the sum of Forty Dollars. Ninthly I give the residue of my estate in equal portion to my brother JAMES and my sister ELEANOR DEACON. Tenthly I appoint JAMES J. WOOD and NATHAN DEACON Executors of this my last will and Testament. In witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 3 April 1834. (signed) N. B.
