(Marginal Notation: P'd). 1784 James Patten, Benjamin Pope, WILLIAM ROBERTS, & James Purvis, give bond, February 11, 1784, for L4000 Virginia money to convey within one year good title to Wilkinson, Armstrong, Dunn & Co. for 3000 acres of first-class land and 4500 acres of second-rate land as well watered and timbered as lands commonly are in the county within thirty miles of the Ohio Falls and within two miles of Ohio River or else on the waters of Brashears Creek. (cont) WILLIAM ROBERTS of Jefferson Co. gives bond to William Johnston, agent for Henry Banks, Merchant in Richmond, VA. Whereas ROBERTS and Johnston have made an agreement for the locating, surveying, etc. of certain military land warrants for the Virginia State Line, and Johnston furnishes Roberts with warrants as per list annexed to the amount of 5,733-1/2 acres and one other warrant in the name of George Walls for 7,110-2/3 acres, (one half already located and not considered here); when WILLIAM ROBERTS locates these warrants, surveying same and delivers to Henry Banks a patent for 2,866-2/3 acres clear of all and every contingent, also the remainder of warrant of George Walls, then this obligation is void. Shannon four slaves on Roberts' plantation, and dwelling house on Brashears Creek. October 4, 1786 Wit: David Standiford, John Roberts Recorded: September 4, 1789, Book 1, page 69 James Patten of Louisville, Jefferson Co., appoints WILLIAM ROBERTS of same county his lawful attorney in fact, said Roberts being his security with others for the conveyance of lands in this county to Wilkinson, Armstrong, Dunn & Co. In order that Roberts will be exempt from all damages, Patten authorizes him to satisfy his bond by conveying any of Patten's lands to make himself safe, and to void a bargain between Patten and the Morrisons for lands, subjecting the lands to the satisfaction of the bond. James Patten of Louisville, Jefferson Co., VA, appoints his friends BENJAMIN ROBERTS of Jefferson Co., and Benjamin Johnston Sr., of Louisville, to be his lawful attorneys to act in all things, except the sale of lands during his absence, including collecting rents, etc., for merchandise stored in his warehouse. Should he not return, or in the event of his death while away, said attorneys are to search the records of his lands and property in which Patten is in partnership in Virginia. November 4, 1788. Alexander Scott Bullitt his lawful attorney for the purpose of selling the following lands......341 acres being part of ROBERTS PRE-EMPTION below the Falls of Ohio, which tract was conveyed to BENJAMIN ROBERTS to Lacassagne and from Lacassagne to Short. July 7, 1791. Wit: Richard Easten, Edmund Basye, Henry Churchill, John Pope Proven & Recorded August 2, 1797, Book 1, page 217 JEFFERSON COUNTY, KY DEATHS, WILLS, PROBATE BOLIN EMERY ROBERTS, 1910 Obit from "The Record", Lousiville Capt. B.E. Roberts, for many years a resident of Louisville, died at Norton Infirmary yesterday. An ex-Confederate Soldier, he served through the war with Morgan's command. He was married to Miss Maggie Pickens of Albany, whom he survived a number of years. Surviving him is his son, Shelby S. Roberts of Nashville. The funeral will take place at home of his brother-in-law, J.E. Chilton. (Co. H, 6th Cav. Morgan's Brig., CSA, captured and taken to Camp Chase, Columbus, OH 1863-64.)
