News from the Spectator included in this paper Tom LOY, better known as Hirshhorn, the colored boy who stole a big lot of ginseng from Sam LEWIS several weeks ago, entered a plee of guilty, and was sentenced to a year in the pen. Sneak theives entered Josh PATTON'S store at Greensburg one day last week, while he was at supper and stole $60.00 from the cash drawer. Pleas LILE a colored youth was arrested on suspicion and placed in jail. Several others are also suspected. Last Thursday afternoon the little 3-year old child of Mr. Melvin HADLEY, near Russell Springs, was burned to death.( I don't want to go into the details) but the child was a Grandson of Mr. T. F. COLLINS of this place. page 2 Saloma News- W. W. Durham and wife left for Louisville last Sunday. They will make a visit to Indianapolis before their return. Miss Flora Hazard, of Forest grove is visting her brother Jim Hazard of this neighborhood. Obe Hill left for Indianapolis last friday night Dr. R. H. Smith and son Norwood passed through here Monday for Campbellsville on business. Johnnie and Jim Durham , and J. M. Hash will leave to Indianapolis tonight F. H. Durham, of Rush Branch, was visitng his parents sunday. Mannsville News- Mr. Charles E. Johnson, the comedian and tragedian, gave to appreciative shows here Saturday and Monday nights. J. L. Turner, of the firm TURNER BROS., is in the market this week buying goods for the firm. Mrs. G. O. Peterson is on the sick list at present. Rev. Crandall preached two sermons at this place Sunday. He leaves this morning to attend the annual conference in Glasgow. R. H. Turner was at his home on Meadow Creek Sunday. Stults and Fisher are buying staves at this place. Cox and Puryear have bought a new mill to be erected at this place. It will be a planing, saw and grist mill. Maple News- Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Huber, after spending a few days visiting relatives at this place, returned to their home near Hibernia this week. Alex Brown and his wife, of Otter were visiting here last week. Taylor Farris sold mule for $45.00 District school is progressing nicely under the direction of J. T. Price, teacher. Mrs. Margaret A. Bray is sick of consumption and not excepted to live many days. W. B. Jones is sick with the fever and so is William Perkins. ---------------- Col. R. J. Breckinridge will speak at Campbellsville next Saturday at 1 o'clock. Merrimac News- F. N. Durham and Cleo Durham were visiting Saloma last sunday. Tom Wooley of this place was visting his brother Ben in Campbellsville, last Sunday. ???an Tucker and family were visiting W. T. Weatherford Sr. , of Rush Branch. Wash Tucker, has accepted a position as a clerk with Gowdy at Campbellsville. Hons. James Colton, Vance Gowdy and Joe Robinson, Taylor County's best orators will whoop things up for Goebel next friday night. Marion county News- W. D. Worsham sold to Dudley Cox 12 acres of land for $1,600.00. This land in Bradfordsville. A house owned by Dr. W. E. Mattingly and occupied by Mr. Charles E. Massie, caught fire last friday morning. a terrible accident befell little Cecil Smith, the little son of W. E. Smith of this city, last monday. Horse kicked him in the forehead, crushing in a large part of his skull and exposing the brain. He was removed to Elizabeth hospital and Drs. McChord and Knott preformed a delicate surgical operation which required removing part of the skull. He is doing well now and hoped to recover. Ads. OFFUTT of Lebannon was nominated monday for the state Senate by the Republicans, to oppose MR. E.V. PURYEAR, the Democratic nominee. Theif broke into the Gun shop of J.P. CARROLL DAVID A. ROBINSON died at Anchorage on last monday and was brought to this county and buried at Palestine yesterday. Mr. ROBINSON was about 66 years of age at time of death. He was a brother of Captain JOHN .R. ROBINSON, deceased. MRS. SALLIE ROBINSON, aged 94 years died at the home of her son-in-law WM. RICE, on Meadow Creek, last Sunday evening of old age. Mrs. SALLIE ROBINSON was the wife of JOHN ROBINSON deceased. She had been a member of the methodist church for 75 years. Her remains were interred at the SMOOT graveyard, on Meadow Creek, on Monday afternoon. The funeral services were conducted by the REV. G.S. KING on Sept. 27, 1899 RAY BOIS of Marion co. died and buried in the New Market cemetery on the 28th. he leaves a widow and four small children. D.M. WILLIAMS is having a veranda built in front of his two story dwelling on Main street. Work on J.T. GOWDY's brick building is progressing rapidly R.L. BORDERS is having a rock fence put on front of his residence. Grocery store of MR. JOE WILLOCK, under supervison of THOMAS DIX Jr. ast monday morning, W. A. CHANDLER found the front door of his warehouse, at his store, had been broken into and his bicycle stolen. Irvin ROMINE who had a pair of pants at the same place were also stolen. A young man by the name of Jake RICH, who lives 4 miles beyond Rolly , Adair co.was seen by several parties with the bicycle. Mr. CHANDLER has sworn out a warrant for his arrest. When last seen he was near Elk Horn, going towards home. He did not have the wheel at the time and either left it along the side of the road or sold it. Harter The social at Dr. Moore's last tuesday night was a pleasent affair for the young people. Mrs. Prescott is at Elk Horn waiting on her daughter-in-law who is very ill. Rev. Crippe preached at our school house on Sunday. Missses Mattie and Mamie Moore are visitng at their brother's in Adair co. Mr. Junnius Chapman and a sister were visitng at Camp Knox, saturday and sunday. Judge Cloyd and boys, from your city were visiting in this neighborhood Sunday.
