Submitted by Debbie Dicken James Deener, 84, of Old Lebanon Road, Campbellsville, Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, in Campbellsville. Son of the late John William Deener and Willie Sullivan Deener, he was born in Taylor County, Ky., on May 29, 1915 and was a member of the Campbellsville Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon for many years at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and served on the Board of Trustees of Campbellsville University. Deener was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the American Theater European Ribbon, the African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. He was former owner and operator of Caulk Furniture Company. He was married to Barbara Druien on May 28, 1941, who survives. Other survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, John and Janet Deener of Campbellsville, and Dee Deener of Lexington; one granddaughter and two grandsons, Marsha and Eric! Warren of Louisville, Chad Deener of Campbellsville, and Richie Deener of Lexington; one sister and one brother, Ora Lee Morris and Colby Deener of Campbellsville. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Deener in infancy; three sisters and two brothers, Mae Wayne on Feb. 23, 1971, Dorothy Kessler on Feb. 21, 1990, Lillian Richerson on Oct. 22, 1992, Robert Deener on June 17, 1987 and Walter Deener on April 17, 1987.
