Services were conducted by the Rev. J.L. Robinson, Baptist minister. Burial was in the Brookside Cemetery. Mr. Shope is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Shope; two sons, Ernest and Pete, and a daughter, Mrs. Sallie Dwyer, all of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and a sister, Mrs. Sallie Wilson, of Indianapolis, Indiana. Pallbearers were Dick Parrish, Charlie Denny, Jim Eggers, Will Denny, Oscar Eggers, and Hollis Brickens. *********************************************** The Bandera Bulletin Wednesday, April 9, 1997 Bandera, Texas LEE SHOPE: veteran Mr. Lee N. Shope, 73, of Bandera, and formerly of Santa Fe, Texas, died on Friday April 4, 1997 at his residence. Mr. Shope was born December 05, 1923 in Campbellsville, Kentucky to William Peter Shope and Lou Bertha Skaggs Shope. He was a retired landscape architect, having worked in the nursery business for many years, and served in the US Army during WWII. Mr. Shope was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Sally Benz. Survivors include: daughters, Wanda Prouty of Texas City, Texas, Margaret Manz of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Harriett Chastain of San Antonio, Texas; sons, Rick Shope of Bandera, and Tom Shope of Chattanooga, Tennessee; sister, Pauline Mc Cubbins of Greensburg, Kentucky; 17 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services were held Monday, April 7, 1997 at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera with Sister Jane McKenzie of Hospice officiating. Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 8, 1997 at Forest Park Cemetery in Webster, Texas with Pastor Chuck Cullen officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the National Audubon Society.
